hn23··on Renault's driver UX is a disaster waiting to happen
Agreed, the UI is far from perfect. I would like to have buttons for lots of stuff or at least shortcuts in the dashboard.

The stick including the wheel is most likely a stock version as it is used in nearly all Renault cars for the last 10 years. I have one in my 10 year old Megane and nearly the same in the 2 year old Scenic.

The popup might be there to be able to switch Radio Stations/Titles etc. when you have something else in full screen mode (like navigation).

I would like to know what is the OS of this thing. Android? Tizen? I have this "Arkamys 3D Sound Demo" in my Bose-Scenic. But it is only a Demo. How to activate this permanently?

hn23··on Renault's driver UX is a disaster waiting to happen
Have to agree. Moreover the cruise control reactions are petty fast.

Also switch radio station is possible with the wheel on the stick behind the steering wheel.

Would you like to elaborate? Always eager to hear such anecdotes:)
hn23··on US military is a bigger polluter than as many as 140 countries
On the other hand, we take the refugees produced by US military and foreign politics. And our countries are the first to crumble into dust if there is another Dr. Strangelove.
hn23··on US military is a bigger polluter than as many as 140 countries
Source? Last year I was more afraid of Regime Change Attempts in Ukraine at least fueled by NATO/EU. Victoria (Fuck the EU) Nuland was pretty clear the US does not give a shit if Europe burns..
hn23··on US military is a bigger polluter than as many as 140 countries
The Swiss would disagree. Neutral by constitution..
hn23··on US military is a bigger polluter than as many as 140 countries
They also produced lots of military goods for Russia. Thus it was no good idea trying to bring them into EU and as second step into NATO. They could have been a perfect neutral state serving both sides. But every side wanted their own oligarch.
hn23··on Trump Signs Executive Order Compelling Disclosure of Prices in Health Care
Well this Dr. probably had to pay for his student loan:P The price tag comes from somewhere...
hn23··on Trump Signs Executive Order Compelling Disclosure of Prices in Health Care
But the idea to rely on companies (whose incentive is make more money) is not ridiculous?
hn23··on AMP for email is bad
Seems you try using mail for a purpose it was not invented for? I think mail should be what it is: an electronic analogon for real mails. If you send "real" mail you have no control how/when/if I am going to reply or even read it. If you want this type of control, use another tool. I guess this is why Jehovah's Witness ring the door but do not send mail;)

>> Plaintext mail should not just continue to function. A plain text mail should be default.

> Well, I just do not agree with that.

I referred to the fact that you mean it "should" work for a foreseeable future. I mean it should work with plaintext for ever without require a user to parse $scriptLanguageOfTheYear relying on framework $fancyShitOfTheYear. We have been there - remember IE6.

hn23··on AMP for email is bad
The only MUA where reply is complicated is Outlook because it is still not possible to quote easily.

Plaintext mail should not just continue to function. A plain text mail should be default.

hn23··on Scientists have discovered a sea of fresh water under the ocean
As soneone else said: It is 2019. We have learned nothing. Why should a fucking company be allowed to do potential irreparable harm at global scale. Even if these are in US territory - we only have one planet for all of us. Such caverns could collapse. You cannot press saltwater into them like it is done into oil caverns.

The 7kWh figure was not mine. However, I see what the intend of the Thread starter was and I think he is right. Streaming video/music on top of 'AI' (to sell more stuff), security theater and Ad campaigns is just a waste of resources.

/s I would bet Bezos and folks can buy fresh air when it comes to this point. But at least we all could watch Game of Thrones when we wanted to.

hn23··on Temperature changes around the world – 1901-2018
It really does not matter how much they pay because the market price does not include the actual costs a company imposes on the environment. There is no CO2 Tax, is there?

Ask yourself: How can it be more efficient to stream the same stuff over and over again, wasting CPU cycles on couple of fat machines etc. instead of playing it from a local cache (hard drive, ...). IMHO it cannot be more efficient. It is convenient and it appears to be cheap.

hn23··on Temperature changes around the world – 1901-2018
Even if the numbers are way off it is obvious that watching TV or listening music over a packet based protocol is way more energy consuming than any UKW sender can be. UKW scales - streaming does not without more energy because you need more computers.

hn23··on The CIA Spied on People Through Their Smart TVs, Leaked Documents Reveal (2017)
Well, if you have Alexa in your home...what is the difference? Alexa and all these 'smart' gadgets call home. You have a microphone that is always ON. Recordings are stored and manually analyzed by subcontractors of Amazon. There is no fancy AI. Why shouldn't the $Agency use this channel as well?

hn23··on SIM swap horror story: I've lost decades of data and Google won't help
That is fine but the scam started by reassigning the SIM; something not related to Apple. I am not having enough criminal fantasy but in your Apple World you live in a monoculture...usually this makes it just easier for intruders to make problems.

hn23··on Amazon’s Ring Is Putting Suspected Petty Thieves in Its Advertisements
Somehow this reminds me of the "Running Man" movie. There was a comercial playing that said something like: "Citizen, denounce your neighbor, and get some extra dollars"...

There should have been more positive visions of the future. These idiot companies took the shit from the 80s as script it seems.

hn23··on Google Cloud Is Down
Code reuse? Couple if years ago some started to call servers "cloud" but the cloud is just that: computers managed by someone else. If the whole service layer relies on Three big companies, there is a problem..
hn23··on Google – My Activity
In other countries, you could start talking to people and prepare for your travel. Lookup a location on a map before you go there and learn to orient yourself. What is the purpose of travel if all you get more of the same because some algorithm found it "interesting" for whatever reason. About 10 years back people lived without smartphones. All you loose is some comfort. In turn you start using you brain again and gain features;)
