hleszek··on Firefox bug gets fixed after 25 years
Resolution: --- → DUPLICATE
hleszek··on A 1.55 R⊕ habitable-zone planet hosted by TOI-715
The gravity on the surface should be 3,02÷(1,55^(2)) times the gravity on earth. It is equal to ~1.257 so it's about 25% higher.
hleszek··on Disney unveils the HoloTile floor
Put it on a drone instead and now we're talking!
hleszek··on The .ing top-level domain
Apparently it is only possible to do a pre-registration of a domain name.

I just bought a .ing for 23,07€ / year on godaddy but someone else could still get that domain before me?

What happens in that case? Would I be refunded?

hleszek··on XML is better than YAML – Hear me out
It is known as the XML declaration. It is not specific to any particular organization or group but is a standard part of the XML format itself. This declaration serves several important purposes:

Version Information: It specifies the version of the XML standard being used. In this case, it's version 1.0, which is the most common version of XML.

Character Encoding: It specifies the character encoding being used in the document. In this case, it's UTF-8, which is a widely used encoding that can represent a vast range of characters from different languages and character sets.

Standards Compliance: It signals that the document adheres to the XML standard. This declaration helps parsers and software that process XML documents to interpret and handle the document correctly.

Interoperability: By including this declaration, creators of XML documents ensure that their documents can be correctly interpreted and processed by a wide range of XML tools, libraries, and parsers.
In essence, the XML declaration helps ensure that XML documents are self-describing and can be processed consistently by different software and systems. It's a crucial part of the XML standard and is included at the beginning of most XML documents to set the context for how the document should be handled.
hleszek··on An easy way to concurrency and parallelism with Python stdlib
The easiest and modern way is simply to use asyncio...
hleszek··on Successful room temperature ambient-pressure magnetic levitation of LK-99
On that page, in the table we 1/r² for both electromagnetism and gravitation in the column "Long-distance behavior (potential)".

Is that a mistake?

hleszek··on APT Browse: A web browser for the contents of Debian (and Ubuntu) packages
You know what would be nice?

To do the reverse: I provide a file path and you can determine in which package(s) it is present.

hleszek··on Show HN: InvokeAI, an open source Stable Diffusion toolkit and WebUI
Those who don't have a GPU could use the Stable Horde: https://stablehorde.net
hleszek··on Show HN: InvokeAI, an open source Stable Diffusion toolkit and WebUI
I see you've got my https://github.com/leszekhanusz/diffusion-ui gui but it seems to be linked to a completely unrelated face-swapping interface?

And in communities, you can probably add https://stablehorde.net

hleszek··on Show HN: InvokeAI, an open source Stable Diffusion toolkit and WebUI
Or you can stay on automatic1111 and use https://diffusionui.com/b/automatic1111 for better UX.
hleszek··on Show HN: InvokeAI, an open source Stable Diffusion toolkit and WebUI
You can use https://diffusionui.com/b/automatic1111 once the automatic1111 webui is running:

- better inpainting

- a gallery to easily compare generations and easily regenerate images with small modifications

- responsive design --> works great on mobile, swipe left/right to switch between pictures in same generation and up/down to switch to another generation to compare

Here is the repo: https://github.com/leszekhanusz/diffusion-ui

Also if you don't have the hardware, you can also get images for free using the Stable Horde (https://stablehorde.net), a cluster of backends provided for free by volunteers.

You can test it here: https://diffusionui.com/b/stable_horde

hleszek··on AI converts between hundreds of programming languages
What a good idea! It could also relatively easily verify if it's correct and only return a result when the test is passing and all the lines (or even paths) are covered.
hleszek··on Getty Images bans AI-generated content over fears of copyright claims
And thus the AI auto filtering arm race has begun.

New filters will appear to detect AI-generated images, then new models will be trained to bypass the filter, then upgraded filters will detect the images made by the new model, etc...

In the end tough it's likely that we won't be able to distinguish between a real image and an AI-generated image, it's only a question of time.

hleszek··on Code replay attack on the myGovID Scheme
It's great but it's kind of strange to depend on a private entity to log in on government websites.

hleszek··on Show HN: GraphQL Client in the Terminal
For subscriptions, you could use graphql-python/gql (https://github.com/graphql-python/gql) as a dependency instead of requests and graphql-core directly and support the websockets transport.
hleszek··on GraphQL Is a Trap?
There is a cursor pagination spec available:https://relay.dev/graphql/connections.htm which is used quite often.
hleszek··on New Male Birth Control Pill Effectively Prevents Pregnancy Without Side Effects
Well... There is also anal sex.
hleszek··on Ask HN: What is the most interesting FOSS that most people don't know about?
Valentina (https://gitlab.com/smart-pattern/valentina)

"Valentina is a cross-platform patternmaking program which allows designers to create and model patterns of clothing. This software allows pattern creation, using either standard sizing tables or an individual’s set of measurements."

hleszek··on GraphQL Conf. 2021
Great!

But I don't see any mention of the time and timezone ?

EDIT: if you subscribe, you can add the event to your google calendar and it shows: 17:00 - 21:50 (UTC+2)

hleszek··on Schrödinger’s Cat When Nobody Is Looking
So, I am missing something, how does it work with the double slit experiment ? the result should never act as a wave without observation if we have spontaneous collapse all the time ? Or is this spontaneous collapse quite rare in practice ?
hleszek··on Facebook is pressuring its independent fact-checkers to change their rulings
The presumption that there are always multiple perspectives and that they might be equally valid can be another bias. Especially in the news. Sometimes one party is clearly right and the other is clearly wrong.
hleszek··on Ask HN: What did you make during lockdown?
I contributed to the GraphQL python client gql (I implemented the websockets transport to allow GraphQL subscriptions using asyncio)

https://github.com/graphql-python/gql/pull/70

hleszek··on Coronavirus: Care home deaths 'far higher' than official figures
Hmm no, Sweden is not the only country that is counting dead at care facilities.

See Belgium which is on top of the chart presented by Trump:

hleszek··on Prisma 2.0 Beta: Type-safe Database Access
You can put an apollo server on top of prisma and then you can do the subscriptions yourself with a pubsub (redis in our case)
hleszek··on Prisma 2.0 Beta: Type-safe Database Access
We started using Prisma 1 for our project and ran really fast into missing features that are really missing for a complete product.

But with a few workarounds it was possible to make it work and is quite nice to use.

Example of missing features:

Primary key as a combination of two relational models: https://github.com/prisma/prisma1/issues/3553

Database Constraints https://github.com/prisma/prisma1/issues/728

Cascading Deletes https://github.com/prisma/prisma1/issues/1262

hleszek··on My Favourite Git Commit
Indeed but in our case it is for a private repo with only 5 developers. The hooks are installed automatically when running make.
hleszek··on My Favourite Git Commit
To avoid those kind of issues, non-ascii characters are forbidden in our code base. They are automatically verified in a pre-commit git hook.
