hilyen··on GoDaddy injecting JavaScript into websites and how to stop it
The JS file creates cookies, which would break GDPR I am guessing.
hilyen··on GoDaddy injecting JavaScript into websites and how to stop it
GoDaddy has always been horrible.
hilyen··on Reddit Hits 1B Views per Month 1 Year After Launching Native Video Player
My biggest gripe is the total inability to copy and paste or download a direct video URL for sharing.
hilyen··on Show HN: Zero – Local file system transparently swapping to the cloud
Not seeing, but does it support encrypting files/folders on cloud storage?
hilyen··on Social media apps are 'deliberately' addictive to users
Lots of things really. Everything nowadays is tweaked to get people coming back, its an eventuality when all of the companies goals are to increase profits.
hilyen··on GitLab Web IDE
The biggest problem I've had with all web ides is that you cannot use addons.
hilyen··on Apple shareholders push for study of phone addiction in children
They should be pushing for a study on neck injury / muscle strain on smart phone use. Millennials and the next gen after are going to pay dearly from injuries from bending their necks/heads down for years and years looking at their phones.
hilyen··on Pigeon as a Service – Send Messages by Carrier Pigeon
Come on, drones would be a million times better than this.

Also interested in your recommendation. I've tried many, all have their shortcomings.
hilyen··on San Diego Declares Health Emergency Amid Hepatitis A Outbreak
I work in East Village, have for a few years. I'd say part of the problem is the local gov decided upkeep of the public restrooms they had was too expensive, so they removed them. They kind of shot themselves in the foot it seems. http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/politics/sdut-portl...
hilyen··on Craft Wireless Keyboard for Precision, Creativity and Productivity
Fully agree, as well as logitech has been left in the dust when it comes to ergonomics. There are smaller companies (ergodox-ez, matias) that blow away all big corp ergo keyboard offerings.
hilyen··on Bezos should put his billions in public libraries
Wait, didn't he already replace the need for libraries with kindle and kindle unlimited monthly service? Heh.
hilyen··on FCC says its cybersecurity measures to prevent DDoS attacks must remain secret
It really depends, the calls to their database wouldn't be direct, it'd be through a REST API which then communicates with a DB. That REST API likely has some sort of DDOS protection, like for example how cloudflare protects ALL requests to the domain.

But anyway, their excuse that it needs to be secret is BS, DDOS protection methods are widespread and not very secret as it is. They probably just want to keep it secret, because they don't actually have proper DDOS protection.

hilyen··on Google Will Stop Reading Your Emails for Gmail Ads
Good for them. Though it goes without saying email is insecure. If enterprise clients dislike an algorithm scanning their email contents, maybe they should also consider that email generally has unencrypted transit and storage.
hilyen··on US Senate bill on “any digital exchanger or tumbler of digital currency”
>'does dark money enable crime?'

all currency does this.

hilyen··on G.M. Wants to Drive the Future of Cars That Drive Themselves
Why not just tell the car to find a spot to park and you can call it when you're ready?
hilyen··on Show HN: Real-time notes app built with Vue.js, inspired by Notational Velocity
Shortcuts do not work at all for me on OSX, I'd try this once that is fixed.
hilyen··on What the Hackintosh community wants in the new modular Mac Pro
I agree, I think they just mean they probably will stop the soldering and glueing of pieces that should be easily replaceable.
hilyen··on Russian FOSS activist arrested in Russia for his Tor exit-node
Honest question, its not illegal to run an unrestricted wifi access point, and you can't be held accountable for others using that ip for illegal means in court today. So how does this differ from running a TOR exit node?
