MacBook Air, the new MacBook for Pros.
highace··on Creating an open-source solution to the headaches of headless browsers
It's probably those same engineers that use Dropbox instead of getting an FTP account, mounting it locally with curlftpfs, and then using SVN or CVS on the mounted filesystem.
highace··on The grandmaster diet: How to lose weight while barely moving
This still boils down to calories in/out though. Metabolism goes under the 'out' column. It fluctuates, sure, but it's just as much an 'out' variable as exercise is.
highace··on New 2019 MacBook Air features a slower SSD than 2018 model
You'll be back for the trackpad alone.
highace··on The internet is an SEO landfill
This already exists. If you navigate back to the search results then that counts as a downvote. If you don't navigate back, that's an upvote.
highace··on Show HN: I replaced Google Analytics with simple log-based analytics
> This also bypasses Ad blocker

GA does a good job at extrapolating your data to account for users with ad block. Obviously not perfect, but good enough for most cases.

highace··on Vice Media Had YouTube Shut Down My Gaming Channel Without Contacting Me
Have you ever tried contacting Google?
highace··on Show HN: Bypassing ad blockers for Google Analytics
I implemented something like this on a site visited almost exclusively by developers, assuming that developers must have amongst the highest adblock usage, and that my real visitor numbers according to GA would be much higher.

I saw a boost of about 7-8%. Remember, most adblockers (like Adblock Plus) don't block Google Analytics. uBlock and Ghostery are probably the 2 main GA adblockers, but as a % of adblockers as a whole they're not that large.

It's probably not worth it.

highace··on Apple Rumors Point to 31.6-inch 6K Display, All-New 16-inch MacBook Pro for 2019
Finger's crossed for Magic Keyboard-style keys and no butterfly nonsense.
highace··on Apple Rumors Point to 31.6-inch 6K Display, All-New 16-inch MacBook Pro for 2019
> No one cares to have another few tenths of a mm shaved off the thickness.

Apple's marketing department cares.

highace··on Apple patents MacBook with key switches under a flexible touchscreen keyboard
Is this punishment for all the complaints about the current keyboard?
highace··on A Design Flaw Behind MacBook Pro’s “Stage Light” Effect [video]
I'm convinced the problem with these keyboards isn't always debris under the keys. I've noticed it's often E and R, the keys right above the heatpipe system, which suggests that heat could be warping or damaging the contacts. This is even worse.
highace··on Ask HN: What is an example of a super simple SaaS that is profitable?
I came across this a few months ago - this is a perfect example of how to execute, great job. How's your revenue growth?
highace··on Ask HN: Do you enjoy working in a coworking space?
Wow, that's better than a coworking space. You're fortunate!
highace··on Memory usage of a toy C# server and client with 500K concurrent connections on
Look at Dapper.Contrib - it's an extension lib for Dapper that adds a load of ORM-esque functions for basic CRUDing.
highace··on Memory usage of a toy C# server and client with 500K concurrent connections on
I see the same - lots of devs with opinions of M$ and "isn't ASP.NET that thing with forms and callbacks". Too bad for them!
highace··on Design flaw behind MacBook Pro’s “stage light” effect
I'd love to get something other than a MacBook, but the trackpad compensates for every other flaw. It's also nice that there's no air vent on the bottom.
highace··on Scratch 3.0
Woah, coding gamified like a phone app. This is the correct way to get engagement from kids. Premium quality too.
highace··on Installation via Node.js Permanently Disables Windows Update
This sounds like a feature.
highace··on Ask HN: What discontinued company/product do you wish was still around?
I'm cheering for the Razer Phone 2.

It has no notch, it isn't obsessed with a high screen-to-body ratio. It isn't that thin or particularly light.

But it does have a 120hz screen that nobody else has, and once you see it with your own eyes you'll be wondering why other manufacturers aren't pushing for it too. It does have unashamedly large stereo speakers for market-leading volume and clarity. It does have a unique glowing logo on the back, just like the old Macbooks. And it also has a 4000mah battery that'll last the whole day easily.

If you want a phone that's trying to break the meta, this is it.

highace··on Brave – A private, secure and fast browser
I know Brave has their own arguably evil agenda, but their Android browser right now is simply amazing. It blocks all ads and trackers, without needing to set up VPNs or proxys or companion apps that mess with your settings and don't always work. If you prefer Chrome over Firefox on your Android then for ad-free browsing it can't be beat.
highace··on Apple's Proprietary Software Locks Kill Independent Repair on New MacBook Pros
You can turn this off. I haven't done an update in at least a year.
highace··on Show HN: A list of programmers coding live
I would love to stream as I program, but I'm too afraid of accidentally showing a password or API key or something and pwning myself.
highace··on Show HN: I made a privacy-first minimalist Google Analytics
There's always one.

highace··on Google Photos API
Use the Google Photos API to build smarter photo and video features for your product... until we deprecate the API in a couple years time and leave you up shit creek.
highace··on Ask HN: How to deal with GDPR / cookie notices in the context of a crawler?
Don't use a server or IP based in Europe. Problem solved.
highace··on Ask HN: Those making $500+/month on side projects in 2018 – Show and tell

highace··on The best laptop right now: Huawei Matebook X Pro
Not convinced. I'd say the best laptop right now is still the 2015 Macbook Pro.
