highace··on Show HN: Twilert – Emails in real time when your brand is mentioned on Twitter
The UI is excellent but it's hard to justify $19 a month for this. Just have a Tweetdeck tab open, then you can reply to the tweets too.
highace··on Daskeyboard 4 Professional
That's a huge question.

There's plenty of youtube vids comparing the two, I think this one [1] shows the difference quite well. Both blues and browns feel very similar, but the blues are much louder. Browns are already quite loud, and IMO blues are too loud - especially if you're in the same room as others. I went for browns.

highace··on Candy Japan crosses $10K MRR
Love the idea to branch out into stationary. Now you've got the option to grow up and out. There's probably loads of other suitable Japanese niches too.

Have you done any AB testing with the personalised message on the home page ("Free shipping even to {user's country}")? I'd be interested to know how that affected conversion.

highace··on The Highest-Paid CEOs Are The Worst Performers, New Study Says
...but the best negotiators, evidently.
highace··on Ask HN: Mentor Saturday
Is there no website where you can join as a mentor or a student and then it gives you a list of who you're looking for, perhaps sorted by distance?

It could cover anything, not just programming or startup culture.

I'm sure I've seen one before?

highace··on Show HN: Brix for Bootstrap
But why charge $59 one-off when they can charge $29/month ($348/year)!?!?!

I hate it too. Especially for relatively simple utility apps like this that don't really provide a lot of ongoing service apart from hosting the app.

highace··on Uncss – Find unused CSS
Cool, and this runs in the browser without needing nodejs too.
highace··on Xiaomi launches 49-inch 4K TV for $640
I would love a massive 40-50"+ monitor with the standard PPI of 94. Loads of space, with no worrying about scaling issues or ridiculously tiny fonts/icons/etc.
highace··on User Onboarding
You've clearly put a lot of time into this and I think you've done a great job. I've gathered a whole bunch of new ideas to try with my onboarding in a fraction of the time it would have taken me to figure it out myself.
highace··on Show HN: Progressive paywall using bitcoin microtransactions
What happens if I don't have any bitcoins to pay with?
highace··on Code Monkey Island – board game to teach kids programming
From reading the title I was hoping the article was going to be about the coding of Monkey Island, or an open source port of it or something. Which I would have preferred..!
highace··on Snails Are Dissolving in Pacific Ocean
What's the likely solution here? Is it possible to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere without damaging it in some other way? Or are we destined to slowly but surely destroy this planet?
highace··on Ask HN: Can we do a "Who's looking for work?"
I wouldn't think so. Just stick your skill set and history down, along with what sort of company or area you're looking for and a way to be contacted.

Although recruiters will probably go wild all over it and nobody really wants that, do they?

highace··on Putting the Chat into Snapchat
CyberDusts leading app store reviews are so obviously shilled it hurts. They actually read like they were written to go in the description section.
highace··on The problem with profitless startups
If it looks like a bubble and acts like a bubble...
highace··on Ask HN: Idea Sunday
This sounds good. As a developer I frequently churn out stuff that I have no idea how to sell or grow.

Let the sales guys look through a list of stuff that has been made by developers, and if they find something they think they can add value to then a connection can be made.

highace··on Truecar.com is going public
I thought it was funny.
highace··on We’re Fucked, It’s Over: Coming Back from the Brink
Great story, I remember reading it the first time around. How they didn't explode sooner from that set up and and managed to get as far as they did was probably the most shocking part of it.
highace··on Followr, Twitter Bots, and Ethical Considerations
I've already tried something like this. I found that Twitter suspend the account incredibly fast if you interact with the website automatically. They can tell it's not natural. I switched to the API which is much more lenient.
highace··on Find your color scheme
Wondered how you were doing the menu slide-in on hover... tables! Despite not being semantic that works really well and looks really easy to set up.
highace··on BTC Stolen from Poloniex
Seems to be a recurring theme recently. Evidently too many developers inexperienced in proper security are building these things. You would have thought after everything that has happened so far that people would take a long hard look at their security measures.
highace··on Google’s suggestion for a better infinite scroll?
It's worse than that. At least with the book you get to turn the page. This is more like having a book, and knowing there's other pages, but you can never get to the bottom of the page you're on.
highace··on Density.io
This is really clever. So it's like Google Analytics (or any analytics) for your brick and mortar business. This is the kind of stuff I love to read about and see being developed, it makes a refreshing change from yet another javascript framework or social network for your pets.
highace··on I No Longer Need StackOverflow
I'm capable of debugging stuff myself, but I still always go to SO as my first port of call when I hit a roadblock. If I can find a comprehensive answer in 1 or 2 minutes of searching around, which I normally can unless it's really niche, that's far better than wracking my brains looking through somebody else's unfamiliar code.
highace··on Ask HN: What's the worst you've ever screwed up at work?
Changed the default RDP port on a remote Windows box, but didn't open the port on the firewall and couldn't get back in. Whoopsie.
highace··on Uber rival accuses car service of dirty tactics
Because they saw the success Uber has experienced and wanted some of the pie?
highace··on Moonpig: a billing system that doesn't suck
That logo is absolutely awful. It's like the CEO got his "superstar" nephew to do on the cheap.
highace··on Ask HN: Let's predict. What's your prediction for 2014?
I actually quite like the Blackberry hardware (with the qwerty keyboards). But the software is absolutely dire, they should try putting Android on it.
highace··on Go away Cameron – Bypass UK's porn filter
She probably didn't like that he was getting it on without her.
