I had a fellow senior developer that worked for 2 months on implementing an important feature and he had clear instructions of how everything had to work (loading sequence, retry mechanism, error handling etc.). We launch the feature and shit hits the fan really quickly. Turned out he left out a few requirements and had another developer approve the review without looking too closely to meet the deadline. I was super angry and I didn't feel like swallowing my anger because this was really disrespectful.

Thanks for the link - just sent 1500 euro! Doesn't matter if it helps or not but the message to Russia should be clear: this is NOT ok and the rest of the world won't tolerate this!

I don’t want symlinks to be resolved (/var/www becomes /private/var/www on os x) so I modified it to store the path in the file:

I think the if syntax is zsh so probably won’t work with bash.

I'm in a similar position and I'm not very productive focussing on two projects at the same time. I decided to work really had on client work for some time to save enough money so I can take off 4-5 months and finish my own project. I have two more weeks to go on a freelance job .. can't wait to be free again :)

I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a Core 2 Duo with the newest version of Chrome (19.0.1084.46) - no crash!

Use Percona Server instead of MySQL: http://www.percona.com/software/percona-server/ Works the same as MySQL..just faster! (and nginx + php-fpm as j_col already suggested)

I've been in the same position myself (college -> startup) and without reading the other comments I give you two questions to think about:

1. Are you making good progress on a personal level? (meaning learning the things you want to learn at a good pace.)

2. Does it have a negative impact on your financials?

I kept going until I was 15k € in debt and the startup was closed down. I don't regret it because I learnt so much. It took me less than 6 months to pay back my debt and I'm glad I didn't quit when things looked bad.

Did you update something? Works now!

Cool idea..doesn't work in Chrome though (latest Chrome 18 on 10.6) but worked great in Firefox
