i might try porting this to rust ;)

hexspriteon Codex logging bug may write TBs to local SSDs

I created a Claude Code plugin to load AGENTS.md. Uses symlinks but it’s better than no support.

hexspriteon Clawdbot - open source personal AI assistant

Clawdbot finally clicked for me this week. I was renting out an apartment and I had it connect to FB messenger, do the initial screening messages and then schedule times for viewings in my calendar. I was approving it's draft messages but starting giving it some automatic responses as well. Overall it did 9/10 on this task with a couple cases where it got confused. This is just scratching the surface but this was something that was very valuable for me and saved me several hours of time.

hexspriteon Claude Code gets native LSP support

The typescript-lsp (and others?) is missing a critical part of LSPs whcih is the diagnostics for real-time errors and warnings. So you still need to run a linter, tsc, etc. to generate those sadly.

Seems like it could be useful for e2e testing of command line applications

Hello! I'm Jordan, a senior engineer/software consultant/fCTO with over 20 years of experience in full-stack web and hybrid mobile app development. I take pride in writing clean code, refactoring, writing tests, and ensuring that everything runs smoothly in the CI environment. Throughout my career, I have established and enforced coding standards across projects, and I've provided valuable feedback and mentoring to the developers I've managed.

As a trained Agile Scrum Master, I can seamlessly integrate into Agile team environments and contribute effectively from day one. Whether it's launching green field projects or revamping large codebases with minimal understanding, I am adaptable and driven to succeed.

Being a US/Canadian Dual Citizen, I am currently living in Boise, ID, but I am open to remote opportunities. My expertise makes me an ideal candidate for a Software Developer or Team Lead role. If you would like to know more about my qualifications, feel free to reach out to me. I look forward to connecting with you!

SEEKING WORK

Location: Boise, Idaho / Toronto | Remote: Yes, remote only | Willing to relocate: No

Hello! I'm Jordan! I've been doing software development for over 20 years and I'm a consultant/fCTO/engineer specializing in full-stack web and hybrid mobile app development.

Technologies: React, NodeJS, MeteorJS, Devops (AWS, K8s, Docker, GCloud), Postgres/Mongo, TypeScript, DDD

* I love to write clean code, refactor, write tests, prettify and ensure that everything is green in the CI environment. Typically I have been the one setting up and enforcing all of these standards across projects.

* I've reviewed 1000s of PRs across projects and given valuable feedback and mentoring to the developers I've managed

* Trained as an Agile Scrum Master, I can jump into pretty much any Agile team environment and be productive right away

* I've launched green field projects and also renovated large codebases where there were no longer any team members that understood what was going on. Throw me at a project, and I will figure it out.

* I'm a US/Canadian Dual Citizen living in Boise, ID

* Role: Software Developer / Team Lead

* Rates start at $150/hr.

hexspriteon U.S. life expectancy drops sharply, the second consecutive decline

Good point, one could measure (est.) years lost rather than lives lost as a way to quantify that.

hexspriteon I Accidentally Deleted 7TB of Videos Before Going to Production

when doing migrations/conversions I always write a script in dry-run mode first. I exhaustively check the results to make sure they are expected. Then try to do a real conversion/transfer of only the 1st file and make sure that worked. Then do a couple more. Etc. Only then do I feel confident to do the whole thing.

hexspriteon Detecting Node Event Loop Blockers

how come it was deleted?

hexspriteon Genius Checklist

One way to hack stress is to consider that there's some things that happen that are inherently stressful, and then there's the way we perceive or respond to it that can also add to that stress. I have found meditation and reframing the situation to be powerful tools for that.

With sleep, one might not be able to get more hours or sleep, but it's possible to improve the quality of sleep. For example I recently was not sleeping well, was diagnosed with a sleep apnea, and now using a CPAP machine allows the sleep I do get to be better quality. Other things: journal and meditate before bed to calm the mind, stretch/yoga/qigong to relax the body

hexspriteon High-resolution holographic interface [video]

I'm sure it's awesome, but watching their marketing video it's not obvious that it's worth $15k.

hexspriteon Big Mail: Your inbox, upgraded

I believe they used Apple's standard terms for 3rd party developers on the App Store.

hexspriteon Node.js race conditions

It’s just a function that returns a promise object. The await keyword triggers the wait and unwrap functionality, but in cases where you don’t care you can just call it as a regular function

hexspriteon Little Things That Made Amiga Great

Fun trip down memory lane. My first C compiler was Lattice C which I made resident so I wouldn't have to swap floppies on my single drive Amiga 2000. I can see now how it was a great stepping stone to learning UNIX.

hexspriteon You're Allowed to Write Slow Rust Code

Good advice for any language. Write it correct first and optimize what’s needed.

hexspriteon Mindfulness and meditation can worsen depression and anxiety

As one begins meditation one becomes more aware of their thoughts and feelings. If one has been suppressing "negative" thoughts and feelings those will start to come to the forefront and may seem overwhelming. As a potential solution the article recommends working with a guided meditation either live with a teacher, or a recorded one. This is a great ideas as one develops the capacity to become comfortable with discomfort.

hexspriteon Verizon throttled fire department’s “unlimited” data during wildfire

I mean, I get that this looks bad. But they were using a lot of data and they had to switch from a $39 plan to a $99 one. That's still not a lot of money for such a service.

hexspriteon Gruber on the Macbook Pro Keyboard

It happened to me. They had to replace the whole top case under warranty because a crumb got into the keyboard. And since I got it back I have been pretty careful but still it seems like one of the keys is starting to go. Thank goodness for AppleCare. Hope Apple fixes this in the next release.

hexspriteon Ask HN: Is Meteor.js dead?

I run my SaaS https://focuster.com on Meteor and I have also built several SaaS projects for clients using Meteor as the base. Some have criticized the scalability of DDP. While out of the box the real-time reactivity won’t scale infinitely, the community has released packages like https://github.com/cult-of-coders/redis-oplog which is a great solution for scaling.

If I had to start over I’d probably still use Meteor but with Apollo as my data layer instead of DDP/pub-sub.

hexspriteon Ask HN: Is Meteor.js dead?

Meteor 1.6 supports Node 8.9.x. What's questionable about Meteor's use of Mongo? Reading the oplog? You don't need to use the reactivity if you don't want it. There is a simple API to either use polling or turn off reactivity altogether if you don't care about it.

hexspriteon Ask HN: What did you work on in 2017?

https://focuster.com

Automatic scheduling in your calendar for your to-do list.

This past year we added a ton of new integrations with project management tools as well as support for calendars beyond Google (eg. Apple iCloud, Microsoft Exchange, etc).

It has been a ton of work but very satisfying! Would love to connect with other bootstrapped SaaS founders.

hexspriteon Redis Streams and the Unified Log

I'm still pretty new to event sourcing but when I looked at Kinesis it seemed less than ideal for ES due to it's finite retention (max 168hrs). How do you get around that?
