henriquenunez··on Pentagon weighs pulling nearly a third of U.S. forces from Europe
Please do it. Really, do it. We dont need them.
henriquenunez··on I hate you Microsoft
It's not only web version, because it was working just fine a few months ago.

And they are paying microsoft a lot. The whole financial, HR, marketing departments and even some research groups use "Teams" to communicate.

It's unbeliveable.

henriquenunez··on I hate you Microsoft
It's impossible to use teams on a mac, and on firefox. It makes me open a chromium-based browswer or it just doesnt load.
henriquenunez··on I hate you Microsoft
As much as I would like, I do not see a future where 100% of software is open source, and I see some benefits on proprietary software (well, before the age of slop and the low entry barrier for reversing things).

However, I do think that the information itself (videos, documents) should be in open formats with open specifications, that allow new / other programs to open them.

henriquenunez··on I hate you Microsoft
I also use open source office programs. Honestly if it were for me I would write my slides in latex.

Note that I did not say create a presentation. I said open a presentation.

The document in particular has a load of animations, videos, and "rich" powerpoint resources that have been carefully and purposefully designed to be difficult to interop with other software.

Remember?

"One thing we have got to change in our strategy – allowing Office documents to be rendered very well by other people's browsers is one of the most destructive things we could do to the company."

henriquenunez··on The end of the rip-off economy: consumers use LLMs against information asymmetry
This only holds true for local inference and open source models. LLMs are not truly ours today: comparing a firearm which is totally yours (we can argue about bullets etc, which have a (still low) production barrier) to a big-tech-mega-datacenter-in-texas-run LLM is naïve.
henriquenunez··on EuroLLM: LLM made in Europe built to support all 24 official EU languages

henriquenunez··on Potent New Antibiotic Against Resistant Bacteria
Scientists from University of Warwick tweaked the metabolic pathway for methylenomycin A in Streptomyces coelicolor and found that one of the precursors (pre-methylenomycin C lactone) is 100 times more powerful.
henriquenunez··on Is OpenAI Firing Us?
I think it's pretty clear that the currently technology hit a wall and is not generating any massive productivity increase or revenue.

henriquenunez··on Danish Ministry Replaces Windows and Microsoft Office with Linux and LibreOffice
I agree that the planning does not consider a lot of aspects, but this is not the reason to surrender for big tech. We need more experts and a more sensible plan indeed, that considers the infrastructure, authentication, and so on.

henriquenunez··on Tesla electric car sales plunge again in Australia – Model 3 down more than 81 p
> How exactly are they a threat to the free world?

First by playing 'free market' and getting bilions in incentives from taxpayer money. And then they will be a threat by the time Tesla will lock you into a subscription model and starlink sell your data to the government the first time it will feel threatened.

Socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor.

henriquenunez··on How Nestlé gets children hooked on sugar in lower-income countries
Yes, giving sugary stuff instead of lowering the surplus margin on high quality food wolf in sheep's skin
henriquenunez··on How Nestlé gets children hooked on sugar in lower-income countries
clearly someone here is probably coming from a wealthy country and never had food insecurity in their vicinity.

I do not mean to give you a "woke" lesson or whatever, but the reality where I come from is that people do not have the instruction level to know that this product is harmful to the health. The child will just ask for it, and if they are lucky/hard working enough to afford it, parents will buy it.
