hellomyguys··on Airbnb CEO: NYC hotels will get more expensive after short-term rental crackdown
A quick search show plenty of solid hotel choices under $350 during the week, in fact plenty of good choices around the $250 mark you mentioned.
hellomyguys··on Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses
You can touch up an old car because they were not made to crumple when hit, which makes them pretty unsafe.
hellomyguys··on Florida ocean temps surge to 100F; mass coral bleaching event is found in reefs
More so commenting on that many Californians will notice the impact of wildfires, regardless if they are in an area prone to wildfires.
hellomyguys··on Florida ocean temps surge to 100F; mass coral bleaching event is found in reefs
In the US, the majority of people (even the majority of Republicans) support policies for fighting climate change. https://www.pewresearch.org/science/2020/06/23/two-thirds-of...
hellomyguys··on Florida ocean temps surge to 100F; mass coral bleaching event is found in reefs
This ignores the impact of wildfire smoke on people, which affects a much larger population.

Mocking protestors feels a bit like punching down. They're just regular people trying to do anything possible to wake people up. Not their fault those with power seem to be doing very little to change things meaningfully.
hellomyguys··on Stanford president resigns over manipulated research, will retract 3 papers
Don't forget Elizabeth Holmes and Do Kwon!
hellomyguys··on Tumblr’s core product strategy
Twitter and Reddit for some reason get a pass from Apple's App Store Guidelines on this. It seems unlikely any other app will be able to have as explicit NSFW content as those two.
hellomyguys··on Amid Twitter Chaos, Japanese Illustrators Flock to Weibo
All of my ads now are weird drop-shipping products from companies with slightly different logos.
hellomyguys··on Founders’ Email to Clubhouse Employees
There's already a handful of well known companies providing that. It wouldn't surprise me if Clubhouse was built off of one of these APIs already.
hellomyguys··on Block loses 20% of value as Hindenburg Research alleges fraud
Jack is 46 years old... not really young at this point.
hellomyguys··on Twitch CEO Emmett Shear is resigning
When you dig into those studies, they aren't that great either fwiw.
hellomyguys··on Volkswagen’s ID. 2ALL Is a $26,000 EV Hatchback You’d Want to Drive
Where are you driving where you need an AWD vehicle?
hellomyguys··on Twitter has reportedly laid off product manager Esther Crawford
I can't imagine the benefit of sleeping in the office, especially as a PM. What is a PM doing around the clock to help ship any feature beyond helping morale?
hellomyguys··on TikTok-owner ByteDance planning to layoff thousands in coming months
>Is tech that bloated?

Yes

>What are people doing all day where it’s realistic to lay of 10,000 people?

They're probably in meetings, while a fraction of their time is actually spent doing work.

hellomyguys··on Amazon has approval from FTC to acquire One Medical primary-care clinics
Actually this predated the IPO even. A reply reminded me that it actually started getting bad around 2018.
hellomyguys··on Amazon has approval from FTC to acquire One Medical primary-care clinics
As a One Medical customer, the experience post IPO has been awful. Hard to get appointments and less and less MDs available with incredibly high turnover. I wouldn't say their interests are aligned with mine at all, but agree the customer data being in Amazon's hands isn't great.
hellomyguys··on OpenAI bought the domain ai.com for $11M
> How does one go about selling their domain for millions of dollars?

You have a domain someone wants to buy for millions of dollars

hellomyguys··on The secret sauce of TikTok’s recommendations
They're testing features to let you "reset" your algorithm to improve content diversity. But even without that kids spend over 80 minutes a day on TikTok.
hellomyguys··on The secret sauce of TikTok’s recommendations
They don't gravitate towards it. The algorithm inches them towards that. It starts with exercise videos and healthy eating, which is fine, but eventually goes towards eating-disorder content. Similar for boys.
hellomyguys··on The secret sauce of TikTok’s recommendations
Generally true, but not entirely accurate...

"TikTok’s Secret ‘Heating’ Button Can Make Anyone Go Viral" https://www.forbes.com/sites/emilybaker-white/2023/01/20/tik...

They also don't just optimize for consumption, but also for new users. Don't have concrete proof, but it seems they help new users get more views to give them that taste of "15 minutes of fame" as early as possible.

hellomyguys··on Apple reportedly shelved its plans to release AR glasses any time soon
Definitely one of the worst redesigns for a news site I can think of. I only look at the top article and then close the site now.
hellomyguys··on Twitter layoffs gutted election information teams days before midterms
Twitter has a large off platform impact though. It's where information starts and/or spreads and eventually hits Facebook, less mainstream news sources, and in real life conversations.
hellomyguys··on Over 16k people still use a Pebble smartwatch
You can definitely replace the hard drive with parts online!
hellomyguys··on Tesla faces U.S. criminal probe over self-driving claims
Honestly surprised any of this made it past the legal department at Tesla. Any company I've worked at has always been super careful and conservative with the language you use to describe anything.
hellomyguys··on iPad Pro M2
If they're competing against Chromebooks, they're maybe better actually.
hellomyguys··on The spam on Twitter
There's a downside to making it easy to report content. You just end up with a bunch of useless reports.
hellomyguys··on Patreon Lays off 17% of Staff
What a very bizarre definition of a job
hellomyguys··on Evaluation of TikTok vs. Instagram Reels
They do its the New Product Experimentation team. They've made a dozen+ apps and none of them have been successful. It's just not in their DNA to come up with interesting products at this point.
hellomyguys··on Snap lays off 20% of employees
Snapchat has 86m DAU in Europe vs 99m in North America. Definitely big in many demos in Europe.
