Or if you have Capital One, they offer a browser extension called Eno to generate unique virtual numbers for each site or purchase.
hellojason··on Show HN: Primo – all-in-one IDE, CMS, component library, static site generator
Agree here as well. The permission requirements during Signup are too great, so this is a nonstarter for me.
hellojason··on Hundreds join line at NYC ATM to access unemployment benefits
> customers baked in 79-degree temperatures as they waited

Bit dramatic? With summer temperatures of 96+ in Texas, 79 sounds delightful. Is this a common discomfort up North, like the heat wave episode of Seinfeld? I’m fascinated with how we acclimate to different climates.

hellojason··on Show HN: Convert blog articles to high-quality audio
I have to agree, plus they’re free for what most users would need.

Also noteworthy is the official Amazon Polly for WordPress plugin - https://wordpress.org/plugins/amazon-polly/

hellojason··on How Sketch Took on Adobe
A very useful version of it is free. More collaboration features come with paid plans.

hellojason··on Show HN: Health Wizz – Control your healthcare data
Not my project. I'm interested in something like this, but curious if anyone knows more about this app or alternatives.
hellojason··on Show HN: I made a simple feedback platform for designers
I'm interested in checkin this out, but the site won't load for me.
hellojason··on Show HN: Experience Colorblindness on the Web
Forgive my ignorance, but how do you know that what these tools show is good or bad at representing what you see?
hellojason··on Show HN: StyleURL – Edit CSS via Chrome Devtools and turn the diff into a gist
I have to fanboy in here as well...this tool is exactly what I've been wanting for a long time. You've absolutely nailed the workflow for my use case. Thank you so much for building it.
hellojason··on Slack Is Buying HipChat from Atlassian
You have several potential customers here telling you what they expect to see on a landing page when considering your product. If you’re this stubborn about listening to non-customers who are telling you exactly how to get them into your sales funnel, it gives the impression you would care less about their needs and suggestions regarding the product itself once they become customers.

Listen to your ideal customers, then regurgitate it back to them. If screenshots are not enough, how about a video? Discuss the pain points you’re solving, and show how you solve them. Maybe embed a chat session on the page and let me chat with a bot to feel why it’s better, but do something so I take your product seriously.

hellojason··on Best Buy Is Thriving in the Age of Amazon
Interesting. Thanks for the info.

I must defend Notepad here. I enjoy having a simple text editor included on my machine that doesn’t try correct words or style anything. I often paste text from Word or Google Docs into Notepad, then paste into a WYSIWYG editor simply to remove all the inline span tags and other crust. Comes in handy when training others how to WordPress, for instance. TextEdit, on the other hand, is a rich text editor and gets in the way for this use case.
hellojason··on Best Buy Is Thriving in the Age of Amazon
This has been the secret in my experience. Pay for Prime, and only buy Prime items. For me the convenience is worth it, even though I know I’m feeding directly into what Amazon wants; to not fix their massive counterfeit problem.
hellojason··on Why Use OpenStreetMap Instead of Google Maps?
Interesting stuff. Thanks for the link.
hellojason··on The Rise of Adblock Shaming
You could setup something at the network level, which zaps requests before they even make it to your computer. Pi-hole [1] works well. Still using it in conjunction with browser-based ad blockers though, but it works for all devices on your network, even smart TVs and Rokus.

hellojason··on Why Use OpenStreetMap Instead of Google Maps?
what if they decide to draw the border between countries wherever they want

This seems a bit tin foil hat to me. Has Google been caught doing something like this before with malicious intent?

hellojason··on Fathom – Simple, trustworthy website analytics
Potential customer looking for your exact service here, and that line comes across as distasteful and childish, no matter how much I agree with your intentions. Talk that way to friends over a pint, not on your corporate website. Or don’t, but I’m looking elsewhere.
hellojason··on Firefox is back. It's time to give it a try
Google Optimize requires both Chrome and a browser extension (which isn’t available for any other browser) to work.
hellojason··on A Forgotten Drink That Caffeinated North America for Centuries
Do you recall which market you went to? I’m curious to try some.
hellojason··on If you type the letter “i” and it autocorrects to an “A” with a symbol
If it helps you, I’ve felt similarly bitten by the Podcasts UI changes and have found solace in Overcast as a great replacement; free with a paid option.
hellojason··on GitLab raises $20M Series C round led by GV
Recent stats now suggest just under 29% of the web (https://w3techs.com/technologies/details/cm-wordpress/all/al...).
hellojason··on The Typefaces of W.A. Dwiggins
This trick still works in Google, and it's especially useful for finding fonts: intitle:index.of Aldine cursive

First result looks promising.

hellojason··on Ask HN: Must do's and must know's when switching to Windows?
A lifelong Windows user, I wrote an article about nitpicky differences (UI and otherwise) between Windows and macOS after being issued a Macbook at work. You may find useful information in it - https://hellojason.net/blog/nitpicky-differences-between-win...
hellojason··on Review of 8 Linux file managers to try (2015)
I'll add Clover (http://ejie.me) to this list. It slaps WebKit onto the stock Explorer, giving you tabs, bookmarks, and some nice keyboard shortcuts.
hellojason··on Amateur ISIS Investigator Ends Up in Prison
Guessing, but probably to get more accurate engagement stats. It would be better to assume a user has read most or all of the article if they clicked that button. Maybe also a way of determining if the introductory paragraphs were written in an engaging way, because they determine whether I will continue reading or not.
