hellified··on Managing Kitchen Fruit Flies with a Little Shop of Horrors
I have those, they are awesome...and disgusting...and awesome.
hellified··on Ask HN: What Happened to Pinboard (Dec '22 edition)?
I've got a container running linkding ever since that email trying to convert us old timers to a subscription basis. I figured first would be the polite ask, then later the strong arm. Only think missing for me for linkding is an android app.

I'm living in Sweden right now (US citizen). We wear masks. I've been working from home at my employer's request for over a year now. Office buildings are pretty empty, restaurants are still mostly depending on takeout revenue. Our vaccination rate is higher than in the US, and we're still being sensibly cautious to prevent another wave. Sweden isn't the free-for-all zone you've been led to believe.
hellified··on I Want to Fix Goodreads
You should check out: https://beta.thestorygraph.com/ It's still in beta but I've tried it and like it a lot. One thing that it's missing that is holding me back from a full jump over to it is an android app. The mobile site looks good, but I think an app would substantially improve usability.

Why do I have the feeling this camera will fit in a phone in 3 years?
hellified··on Ask HN: How many are 30+ years and still active programmers?
46, still in the game, though I admit the design portion holds much more fascination for me these days. To the OPs point, I do experience a great deal of pressure to head towards management every time I switch jobs. My rational is that when I get to the point where I can't absorb the minutiae, but can still see the big picture, maybe it's time for me to push the keyboard away and manage. Haven't gotten there yet (that I know of).
hellified··on Ask HN: What would you build if you would be a multi-billionare?
A modular, standardized system for building houses where you buy X external walls, Y internal walls, window type A, skylight C, flooring sections, etc .... Walls would be come wired for electricity with snap together connections, roof sections with pre-wired solar panels. Allow people to order parts and put together their own home, or do so with friends like an old fashioned barn raising.

Tornado damaged your house? Order those parts again, disconnect the damaged ones, snap in the new stuff. Baby on the way? Disconnect an external wall, add a few more panels and you've another room, no need to move. Use recyclable materials (melt down one of the 'airplane graveyards' and use the steel and aluminum for a start).

The goals would be to reduce the waste involved in constructing houses as well as achieve economies of scale through mass production that would allow buying a home to be no more of a commitment than buying a car. No more 30 year mortgages, no more being 'house poor'.

Young and just starting out in life? Buy enough for just a kitchen, bath, and bedroom ... add more as you can afford it.

Open the standard for wall, floor, roof, etc... connections so vendors can offer 'after-market' parts for your home if you want something special or more individualized.
