hellbannedguy··on A generation of American men give up on college
I've was a union electrician for a few years.

Get in early. Get in a union. 25-30 years to retirement in most unions. You don't want to be 60, and still in construction.

The test is easy, but figure 1000-2000 guys are taking the test too, so you need to get most of the questions right to get in. An oral interview counts for 1/2 the hiring process.

Just say you love working with your hands--love unions, but understand the needs of the contractors too.

Remember it's construction. You're around guys all day long. It's brainless work, and you will never have to act cheery when the owner's spoiled kid comes to work.

I do not recommend non-union construction at all.

Then again---hide in school for a long time. I loved college. It was cheaper 25 years ago though, and not that fun, but much better than any job I've had.

Your interest will change as you age.

hellbannedguy··on Can progressives be convinced that genetics matters?
I bet if you spent three weeks going over basic math, basically decimals, and fractions; you might see a 90% honest pass rate.

I have found with math, the way it's presented matters more than most subjects.

hellbannedguy··on Very Weird Solicitation Alert
I knew a guy who did this.

Couldn't believe the amount he took from parishioners.

He moved after his caper.

The minute I met him I knew he was a lying, but felt bad for feeling that way. I felt like I was judging him by race.

hellbannedguy··on Tesla’s Fatal Error: Defensive Driving
He has a point.

I've thought about this for awhile.

In order to be a safe driver you need to break the law sometimes.

You program it into a vehicle, and their is an accident, the lawyers will have a happy day.

I don't feel like a debate. I want a autonomous driving vehicle. I want my chariot to drive me home after the hootenanny.

hellbannedguy··on Art student’s 407-piece hand-carved wooden clock (2016)
Mechanical Art.

It's just like the wealthy boys who buy high end mechanical watches.

The movements are breathtaking. Only the watchmaker usually gets to see the beauty though, or at most they might see the rotor, and movment back.

hellbannedguy··on Art student’s 407-piece hand-carved wooden clock (2016)
Wooden clocks were made up until the early 20th century.

They were more accurate than people think.

If anyone comes across a wood movment, don't use oil on the pivots, and bushing (usually just a smooth hole in a piece of hardwood.).

Just dust, and use graphite.

hellbannedguy··on Regular exercisers drink more but are less likely to be problem drinkers – study
As a borderline alcoholic on my best days, I can honestly say walking briskly 30 minutes a day has probally saved my liver.

I defiantly drink less on days I exercise.

Oh yea, if prone to alcohol, and can't stop, don't ever switch over to hard alcohol. It's just to easy to abuse.

Stay with low alcohol beer, and low alcohol wine. Franzia has a 9% white, and tastes so bad you won't want to drink to much. If you feel like you are drinking to self medicate, only drink when the anxiety is bad. Stop all unnessary drinking, including social. My dad died of a huge liver tumor, and his death was beyond painful.

I come from four generations of alcoholics. I also had some nervous disorder while in grad school. The anxiety was so bad only alcohol could level me out.

I've seen a professional forever, and taken so many drugs, but in the long run exercise has been better than and drug I have been prescribed. I'm still on a couple of prescription drugs I need to get off of though.

hellbannedguy··on Chekhov's Gun
Yea, but if Bond didn't use a cool gadget we might have left the theater a bit dissapointed?
hellbannedguy··on Fish eyes grown in a petri dish from embryonic stem cells
I wonder if we will see the day where stem cells are collected at birth, and saved.

A woman has the baby, and the umbilical stem cells are collected, and put in a deep freeze. Instead of circumsision, that doctor would be more concerned about saving the stem cells?

Who knows what medical breakthroughs will come?

(I don't know much about stem cells, other than the political stuff associated woth them.)

hellbannedguy··on 200 Years Ago, Faraday Invented the Electric Motor
Some electrical unions used to make their apprentices make their own motor.

I happened to have a Craftsman lathe that has a armature winder attachment.

I sold ten motors before I decided I didn't want to be a union electrician.

Looking back, I guess the union wanted the students to have a deep understanding of motors?

hellbannedguy··on Many young people diagnosed with Tourette’s after watching a YouTube channel
I was taught Multiple Personality Disorder was so rare, you might be able to count the real cases on one hand.

This was twent years ago, and Dr. Godsey was the professor. He didn't have tenure, so he did landscaping during the summer. I thought his summer job was cool for a teacher. He might have been the best teacher I ever had. Never forget the first day of class, and he said the C students usually hide in the back row. The next day all the back row seats were empty.

Anyways--I do question certain people who are affected by so many psychological problems to the point they need to use abbreviations to describe themselfs. I don't blame them though. They are just repeating what a licensed professional told them.

hellbannedguy··on Kei Car
I got a '97 Dodge Dakota, and thought it was unnessarily big at the time, I also thought it was unnessarily mechanically complex too.

Fast forward to today, and it seems small, and simple to work on.

I was just thinking, if they made the exact same truck, I might buy another Dodge.

I guess they did their homework, and decided Americans want huge trucks?

hellbannedguy··on How did American “wokeness” jump from elite schools to everyday life?
I wonder about the testosterone.

I have never had my testosterone checked. I knew one guy who had has checked, and it was by a female doctor who put him on pills.

I've always wondered where that testosterone level database is?

Maybe they test in the military? I don't know, but would like to know.

I just found a study, but didn't dig into it:

"Travison and his team analyzed data from the Massachusetts Male Aging Study, a long-term investigation of aging in about 1,700 Boston-area men. Data from the men were collected for three time intervals: 1987-1989, 1995-1997, and 2002-2004."

hellbannedguy··on Amazon’s answer to delivery driver shortage: Pot smokers
Personally, I can't smoke pot. I get very nervous, and can't wait until it's out of my system.

But I have worked with many frequent users who smoked daily, and their job. They didn't mind doing terrible jobs.

I'm suprised people arn't talking about habitual pot smokers vs. occasional. If used to smoking--it's no big deal.

Same with alcohol. An alcoholic can drive perfectly well at .08, or a bit higher. An occasional drinker probally shouldn't be drinking and driving.

I heard TX takes into account tolerance when prosecuting DUI's.

hellbannedguy··on Use of artificial intelligence for image analysis in breast cancer screening
Why do I feel the AMA was a bigger problem than liability?

Plus--wouldn't the software company be liable? (I don't think the tech is ready for office use, but when it is--I still think it will be a battle.)

Kinda like all medical devices. Whenever there's a problem, the equipment is looked at first?

Personally, I don't think the AMA wants computers taking away their doctor's precious income, and will only acquiesce when the tech makes the doctor more money, or is so good politicians/insurance companies start demanding it.

hellbannedguy··on Gift card gang extracts cash from 100k inboxes daily
I have a Comcast email account that was hacked years ago. They even got my password from Comcast. (I have been given Comcast $200 monthly, and just figured they had decent security?)

I now have 2FA from Comcast, but I get hacking emails daily. I don't care about the emails. They keep me up to date on the latest scam.

This email is not attached to anything important besides my doctor.

Is there something a Russian hacker could do with my email address? I said Russian because they told me they were Russian. 15 years ago I responded to a friendship ad on CL, and that's how I got on the sucker list.

hellbannedguy··on Renaissance executives agree to pay around $7B to settle dispute with IRS
It's time to tie alll Fees/Fines to 1040 income.

(Patent fees, DMV fees, judicial fines, municipal code citations, school tuition, and even property taxes, etc.)

hellbannedguy··on Use of artificial intelligence for image analysis in breast cancer screening
It's definitely not brest cancer now. It's very well funded now.

hellbannedguy··on Amazon asked FCC to reject Starlink plan because it can’t compete, SpaceX says
Bezos making the world greener?

His big trucks deliver a few packages daily to one, or two, households.

Those electric fleet commercials seem like PR BS.

If I ever do see an electric truck barreling up my street; I bet they will be heavily subsidized by our tax money in the form of credit.

What is he doing that's green?

That cowboy hat was pure ego, and vanity. Two bald men on a carnival ride might not be good for his single sexy time?

All the money in the world, and you will never know which lady of the night truly loves you? He should have pulled a Zuckerburg.

hellbannedguy··on The Sackler Family Wins Immunity from Future Opioid Lawsuits
I never thought I would say this, but Xi is doing things I would if I had his power.

I'm just talking about slapping down billionaires, cracking down on gambling, making education equal to all kids, etc.

None of it is worth the loss of free speech.

hellbannedguy··on The red warning light on Richard Branson’s space flight
We used to have smart guys in competition. Edison vs. Tesla.

Not we have rich business savy guys with not much of a science background holding the cards.

I have met very few wealthy men, young or old, who had great ideas. It's almost like the money dulls their brains? And their vanity projects are usually way out of their wheelhouse.

It's the same with Writers. I have read very few wealthy guys shop could write. They certainly have the time to write, but it's dribble. They are only read because they have money.

hellbannedguy··on 65k fake students applied for financial aid in wide community college scam
I thought Community College was great too.

It was my four year college, I thought it was a joke, and upper division class worse. I once had a accounting teacher sit at the front of the room, and read the text book word for word. He did tell us class participation was not expected.

That said, going to a community college can be depressing.

Something like 90% do not finish their General Education courses, and don't transfer to a four year. They just drop out.

hellbannedguy··on Robert Sapolsky on Depression (2009)
You are probally right on chemicals that treat depression.

I couldn't find the original Psychologist who decided to use The Freedom of Information Act to procure All the studies concerning the efficy of Antidepressant drugs.

He collated the all the clinical studies, and not just the cherry picked ones.

What he found puckered a few Psychiatrists arses, but they still prescribe like it's the end of the world, and rake in a very comfortable income.

I can't remember the guy's name, but this study might suffice.

hellbannedguy··on The $150M Machine Keeping Moore’s Law Alive
I have never seen a bull market like this.

I guess it's a combination of cheap money, government buying debt, government giving away money like a drunken hedge fund guy who's date backed out. (couldn't use sailor), and no one thought businesses could survive through Zoom?

I have watched professionals wait until the last Retail investor puts in his last dime, and poof--they pull out.

What's weird is I don't even think we are close to that pullout by the big guys.

The wealth created in this bull market must a world record? (percentage wise)

hellbannedguy··on My House
I'm assuming England?

In the states, we don't have anything like this, but should.

It seems like in the states government goes out of it's way to discourage cheap housing.

Gov. Neusome did a great job on ADU's, but you need a house to put the unit in, or around. What happened is wealth people realized they could remodel their home while putting in a small apartment.

When begging for a variance for their bigger home, and guaranteed ADU thanks to Neusome, they promise to rent the ADU out to low income tenants.

They get their variance, build a ADU, and turn the ADU into another room for themselfs.

The wealthy are foxey.

(I'm looking at you San Anselmo. I see you are now granting Variances, but they appear to be given out to favorite homeowners? I hope this is not what it appears. For years, my little town gladly took in a $1000 fee for a variance, but never ok'ed one.)

adu=accessory dwelling unit variance=a piece of paper indicating you are breaking some zoning rule. wealthy people=foxey

Can anyone explain 196884=196883+1 That Moonshine equation. A layperson's explanation if possible? Thanks in advance.
hellbannedguy··on Forest Service officials close all California national forests
A moat is not a horrid idea.

When Paradise was burning I was thinking if I lived in a fire prone envionment; I would have sprinklers on roof of my home. It would be a simple 1/2" copper pipe feeding a few sprinkler heads on the roof. Maybe a few mercury switches placed around the property, or remotely controlled through the phone line, wifi, or sat phone enabled? Nothing too elaborate. It wouldn't protect everyone. It might save a few house fires that were started with embers though?

I know there one company selling roof fire sprinklers. I know of one small city who's experimenting right now with roof sprinklers. Hell, I wouldn't mind firing a bunch of Firefighters, and seeing that money go to Roof Sprinklers. (I haven't quite figured out exactly what Firefights do all day, with the hard exception of Paramedics. Buildings in cities don't burn like they used too. Wood stick homes in the country are another story.)

I heard one guy say that there wouldn't be enough water pressure if everyones roof was on, but that doesn't make sence either. Not everyone's roof sprinklers would be going off simultaneously if properly implemented, and designed. Firehouses could be in charge of which houses sprinklers go off?

Right now in CA, if you live in a fire prone area, Insurance (Property) is not suspose to be higher. As much as I despise Insurance companies--this provision needs to be nixed. (I don't think it will happen because Insurance companies use it to raise our city insurance rates, and politicians have northern cabins.

hellbannedguy··on Reverse engineering software licensing from early-2000s abandonware
I get what you are saying. These days--the first thing lawyers pay others to do is comprehense internet searches.

I've always felt the biggest mistake people make is thinking no one is looking at their ramblings.
