helb··on Show HN: Open your stupid link in a safe space so it doesn't hurt you
had to be done: https://i.vgy.me/jHAq9R.png (notice the jpeg artifacts getting worse and worse :))
helb··on Show HN: Umami – a self-hosted alternative to Google Analytics
Looks great! I'm going to try it for a local news website i run. Any chance of adding the "realtime" counters (sum and per-page), similar to what Google has? https://i.vgy.me/j20DEL.png

The demo shows zeroes everywhere except the chart and map when i open it in Firefox (79.0), even with uBlock and FF's built-in tracking protection disabled: https://i.vgy.me/kLEPSV.png (nothing in the console, and it works fine in Chrome)

helb··on Show HN: SVG Compressor – Free Tools to Clean SVG
I'm pretty happy with SVGOMG (https://jakearchibald.github.io/svgomg/, also using SVGO), but i rarely change most of the switches from their defaults. I think the only thing i miss about your tool is a direct markup paste instead of file upload.
helb··on Boeing 747s receive software updates over floppy disks
> if the updates fit on a single floppy or a stack of 20 floppies

The display says "INSERT DISK #1" so probably at least two, and it looks like there's a place for maybe a dozen under the "diskette stowage latch":

helb··on Show HN: A fast RSS reader I built with a friend
Miniflux works fine without JS, it's used just for few things like keyboard shortcuts or the "fetch original content" button.
helb··on Boeing 747s receive software updates over floppy disks
On the other hand, that was probably pretty easy (or at least possible) to fix, if you really wanted or needed to…

helb··on Show HN: Would You Survive the Titanic?
it gives me 50/50 for a 30 year old woman (regardless of fare), and the survival rate grows when i decrease the age, even to 82 % for 2-5 year olds
helb··on Show HN: OBS-web – Control OBS from the browser
That obs-websocket plugin seems to have some auth support. From their Readme:

> It is highly recommended to protect obs-websocket with a password against unauthorized control. To do this, open the "Websocket server settings" dialog under OBS' "Tools" menu. In the settings dialogs, you can enable or disable authentication and set a password for it.

helb··on Show HN: This app wil help you become better than yesterday
It would also be nice to make these googleplay/applestore buttons link to the app stores (they even have a "cta-button" class, but they're just images doing nothing on click…)
helb··on Show HN: A web3-enabled React starter app

Hah, spot on.

helb··on Updated ThinkPad Laptop Portfolio
After many years with old X and T Thinkpads i got a Dell Latitude at work and i'm pretty happy with it. Everything works well, including the thunderbolt dock. Even the keyboard is pretty decent, just the trackpoint (they call it a "pointing stick") sucks, nobody except IBM/Lenovo seems to get it right.

helb··on ZedRipper: A 16-core Z80 laptop
> by all accounts non-IBM/Lenovo TrackPoint implementations aren't quite as good for some reason

Yeah. After many years with old X- and T-series IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads i got a Dell Latitude recently. It's pretty decent but the trackpoint (they call it "pointing stick") sucks in comparison. Also it's not red.

I thought about using at least the IBM dome on it, but they aren't compatible – IBM/Lenovo dome is higher and the square hole is bigger: https://i.vgy.me/u1SUKm.jpg

helb··on Show HN: JS2HTML – Formatting JavaScript as HTML
It doesn't seem to like non-ascii characters.

    "ěščřžý";
    "привіт";
    "<emoji><emoji>"; // HN stripped the actual emojis
turns into:

    "undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefined";</br>
    "undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefined";</br>
    "undefinedundefinedundefinedundefined";
helb··on Show HN: Productive Work Schedule Generator
I feel this is just an unnecessarily complicated newsletter subscription form.

Hm. HTML links work without e-mail, you know… /s

> But first, you need to verify your email. Simply click the link below and you'll be all set.

The link just leads to a web page without any verification: https://www.cowop.org/quiz-work-schedule/noon-racher?utm_sou...

> If you ever change your mind, you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the link that's at the bottom of every email I send.

There is no link in this e-mail other than the "noon rancher" one above.

helb··on Gibberish Asian Font Mystery Solved (2006)

helb··on Colossal Holograms
This should work (add it to "my filters" in uBlock settings and click the checkmark/apply button):

  medium.com##div[tabindex="-1"][aria-modal="true"]
Tested in FF 70 with uBlock Origin and tracking protection enabled.

EDIT: Here's a simple blocklist with more Medium banners and popups. Can be added via "Import…" at the bottom of "Filter lists" tab in uBlock Origin settings. I'll try to update it when i encounter some new Medium stupidity:

helb··on Show HN: tor.js - Minimal JS library to check if your visitors are using TOR
The tor.js file is probably generated by that PHP script:

    header('Content-type: text/javascript; charset=utf-8');

Everything you mentioned works for me in Firefox 70.0.1 (regular release, not developer version).
helb··on Show HN: ipv4.cat – your public IP address from any OS terminal
It doesn't work with recent (7.66.0+) curl versions without an additional parameter, because curl somehow assumes it's a HTTP/0.9 response and these were made opt-in:

    $ curl ipv4.cat
    curl: (1) Received HTTP/0.9 when not allowed

    $ curl --http0.9 ipv4.cat
    (returns my IP)

helb··on I tried to adjust the time on my alarm clock
I'm no dryer expert (using an old fashioned clotheslines or a rack), but i gathered from people who use them that separate dryers work much better (larger capacity, better results) than integrated ones.

helb··on Firefox 70
I don't know what iina is, but youtube-dl + mpv mentioned by Angeo34 does exactly that (stream videos without pre-downloading them). Youtube-dl just gets the stream URL and mpv plays it. And it's easy to use, just:

helb··on Show HN: React Hook Form – Simple Form Validation
I've been playing with it for the past ~40 minutes and i really like it.

Can't wait to use it on a real project soon. In fact, i might start converting some older things to it in spare time.

The website and docs are absolutely amazing, best i've seen in a long time. Thank you for doing this!
