heatherpayne··on Interview with Stephen Lake, Co-Founder of Thalmic Labs (YC W13)
Really? I love the design. What don't you like about it?
heatherpayne··on Time to toss the floss
Even if you search for "floss", there are no results. The article has been taken down. Which seems weird...

heatherpayne··on The most beautifully designed interview ever
The title wasn't a joke. I love the way the interview is presented. The team clearly put a lot of time into it. I especially love the collage they created of a bunch of the women who have attended Ladies Learning Code workshops. It was really unexpected, and I was blown away when I saw it yesterday morning.
heatherpayne··on CodeHuddle: Easily create, remix, and deliver tech curriculum
They're planning to work on this at AngelHack in Toronto on the weekend. As someone with a lot of content creation responsibility (with Ladies Learning Code and HackerYou), I think this tool would be awesome. Thoughts?
heatherpayne··on New Rails workshops to bring more women into the Boston software scene
Thanks for sharing, vimota!

heatherpayne··on ShopLocket Raises $1M to Lead the Emerging Simple Selling Market
If you'd like to know more about the ShopLocket story, they launched a timeline today, too - check it out: http://timeline.shoplocket.com

(I'm on slide 3)

heatherpayne··on A New Rocket(r) is Fast Approaching Launch
Really appreciate the honesty in this post. Looking forward to seeing the new Rocketr!
heatherpayne··on Women and Tech
Seeing projects like this come to the surface makes me love living in Toronto.
heatherpayne··on Hackasaurus
I've been using Hackasaurus to teach kids for a while now (as part of a project I'm working on for the Mozilla Foundation, and also through Girls Learning Code, the tech camp I run for 9- to 13-year old girls), and they just love it.

See some of the projects the girls created using Hackasaurus at our Girls Learning Code March Break camp here: http://heatherpayne.ca/the-girls-learning-code-projects

heatherpayne··on Per Vices (YC W12) Sets Out To Disrupt Wireless Communications
I'm wondering if you have any tips for people who want to apply to YC with a non-software idea? Or some info as to what they can expect once they get there? It's got to be a different experience.
heatherpayne··on ShopLocket Promises Customers They Can Sell Anything, Anywhere
I had exactly the same reaction.
heatherpayne··on ShopLocket Promises Customers They Can Sell Anything, Anywhere
We're selling Ladies Learning Code t-shirts [1]. And I also sold a Brazil guidebook. [2]

(NB: I was ShopLocket's first investor)

heatherpayne··on Coursekit is now Lore
As a follow up, it's also really hard to read the type in their "our Team Values" slider on the "About" page. It's pretty distracting. Since Lore targets people who create courses (who are often middle-aged or older, which sometimes comes with declining vision), legibility should be a priority when they consider their website.
heatherpayne··on Coursekit is now Lore
Yeah, I can barely read the type! I thought there must've been some mistake, but I guess it was a specific choice that they made. If I were Lore, I would change the type to dark grey or black right away.
heatherpayne··on STFU About What Women Want
Thanks, skizm! The site was designed by @vivianhui (her company is @studiofunction). It was developed by @bgilham from @theworkinggroup. We get quite a few compliments on it!

Oh, and it's purple, not pink. ;)

heatherpayne··on STFU About What Women Want
Hi there! I'm Heather, the founder of Ladies Learning Code. Men are welcome at our events, and we have had a few men attend each workshop. The name was designed to be a specific invitation to women, but we don't exclude men. (That being said, I personally support the idea of separate men's groups and women's groups in general, so I encourage someone to start "Men Learning Code" if they are so inclined.
