Super cool
havefunbesafe··on All of Winona Police Department's Flock cameras cut down and stolen
Maybe I'm overly confident in Flock's ability to triangulate, but wouldn't government agencies be able to know exactly who is cutting down Flock cameras? Isn't that the entire purpose of these things?
havefunbesafe··on Designing emoji for the way we communicate today
Can we get the 3D-rendered emoji team to switch gears and work on making Drive's search function work >5% of queries?
havefunbesafe··on My midlife crisis Corolla is fast, furious, and modded
I think its a pretty amazing engineering feat to combine Toyota reliability + 1.6L of engine + the weight of a hatchback + 300hp. Sure, not the best exhaust note, but probably such a fun little monster to drive.
havefunbesafe··on The Radiation Exposure Lie
Very odd risk calculations seem to be afoot here
havefunbesafe··on In 2025, Meta paid an effective federal tax rate of 3.5%
Effective exit rate tax is around 24%

havefunbesafe··on A few random notes from Claude coding quite a bit last few weeks
Ive found that clearing the context and getting back to it later actually DOES work. When you restart, your personal context is cleared and you might be better at describing the problem you are solving in a more informationally dense way.
havefunbesafe··on AWS Service Availability Updates
Amazon S3 Object Lambda seems like a massive category to deprecate
havefunbesafe··on "Vibe code hell" has replaced "tutorial hell" in coding education
I think this is similar for anyone who reads a lot of documentation: A 90 minute video explaining documentation and quickstarts can usually be read in 30 minutes and you don't have to constantly pause/restart/rewind.
havefunbesafe··on N8n raises $180M
That subreddit is the new r/dropshipping. I joined to see what fun tooling people were building, and I found it mostly populated with people attempting to setup a "business" with a single feature solution.
havefunbesafe··on Writing code is easy, reading it isn't
In this case, it sounds like "The code that will most impress your parents"
havefunbesafe··on Claude Sonnet will ship in Xcode
Why would this be an improvement to using Claude in the terminal? Xcode does not have an integrated terminal.
havefunbesafe··on AWS in 2025: Stuff you think you know that's now wrong
Weird AL or Weird A.I.?
havefunbesafe··on GPT-5
Question: do web search results that GPT kick back get "read" and backpropagated into the model?
havefunbesafe··on Bill Atkinson's psychedelic user interface
The high horse of HN generally suggests that every person on the planet does empirical research on every step of their journey through life. I've personally seen several, otherwise normal people, one-shot their brain into purgatory with hallucinogens.
havefunbesafe··on If you are useful, it doesn't mean you are valued
If you ever own a company, you'll find this concept flipped upside down.
havefunbesafe··on Show HN: Lumoar – Free SOC 2 tool for SaaS startups
True, but having this makes the entire process easier. Organization is key to a speedy and clean audit.
havefunbesafe··on Is outbound going to die?
Every enterprise SaaS company with a sales team uses outbound.
havefunbesafe··on Vets Who Code
Judging by the number of these comments, there could be a similarly large market for Veterinarians Who Code

havefunbesafe··on Plane crashes, overturns during landing at Toronto airport
I think theres some tech sway here. Ex: I wonder how technology changes how we recall events and WHEN we recall them. The plane that flipped upside down being a great example. Likely less than 1% of people use a diary to recount insanely major events of their lives. In the 1980s, lets say 80% of people used diaries/journals to recount the events of their lives. That number today is probably less than 1%. But NOW 100% of people use their phones to recount events via video. They dont try to remember what happened, since its there captured at the time of the event. Diaries recount the event after the information has decayed and there’s a minds-eye element to it, so it has additional subjectivity because reading a diary you have to imagine what happened in the past instead of a visual aid.
havefunbesafe··on Analysis of Product Hunt products from 2014 to 2021
Back before PH was sold, I was on it every day. Between the acquisition, crypto project astroturfing, and AI hellscape; it's now pretty meaningless.
havefunbesafe··on TikTok preparing for U.S. shut-off on Sunday
Best case: I am not propagandized by any state media || Second worst case: I am propagandized by my own country's media || Worst case: I am propagandized by a foreign adversary's media
havefunbesafe··on Show HN: I built a fair alternative to Product Hunt for indie makers
I really wish Ryan Hoover would take back the integrity of Product Hunt. It's such an amazing product with such currently painful execution, assumingly in the name of site traffic traded for ad dollars.

I truly think that the conversion rate for advertisers on PH would go UP if the quality of the site (moderated posts, comments, bot traffic) did the same.

havefunbesafe··on Zildjian, a 400-year-old cymbal-making company in Massachusetts
I thought the same and nearly was the purchaser of a Zildjian back tattoo. That would have been a top tier blunder year move.
havefunbesafe··on Zildjian, a 400-year-old cymbal-making company in Massachusetts
Ahh nothing like the sound of a heavy wet rag over a 14" Zildjian hi hat. I do agree, and I prefer Paiste for the exact same reasons.
havefunbesafe··on Show HN: I designed an espresso machine and coffee grinder
This is very good news, as designing a physical product like this is 20x more difficult than designing a website!
havefunbesafe··on Mathematical Thinking Isn't What You Think It Is
Related to another quantum mag article on the front page today: "Why everyone can benefit from something that isnt what you think it is"?
havefunbesafe··on Ask HN: Where After WordPress?
Squarespace. I know that sounds insane, but Squarespace.

Used WP for 7 years and now Squarespace in its place for 5.

The builder has gotten so much better in the last 3 years, and I am very impressed. The plugin library is expanding at a faster clip now, too.
