have_faith··on ChatGPT is adding real cartoonists' signatures to fake New Yorker cartoons
You can replace psychologist with any form of living or non-living derived stimulus but it's only a trigger. Whether you actually engage with introspection, or just react, is still within your control and up to you to guide.

But it gets into the weeds of whether or not we're operating on a shared understanding of what introspection means.

have_faith··on Picard 3.0
I'm personally a fan of the tagging being a separate explicit action, it suits my flows at least: Download to staging folder -> Picard (tags, grabs artwork, normalises file names, I intervene where needed) -> automatic transfer to streaming server when it's finished.
have_faith··on Picard 3.0
I am. As the other commenter mentioned the workflow is very odd, and the UX of the app could do with massive improvements (haven't checked V3 yet), but it does a good job and I'm grateful to the devs for it.
have_faith··on France reaches 94.9% fiber coverage in 2026
When I moved a couple years ago and got fiber with Virgin they came and pulled fiber from the cabinet down the road to the house, with no extra charge.
have_faith··on How Bluesky draws its logo on screenshots
Then it's a bad solution to a real problem. A better solution would be exposing a hook that apps can call when a screenshot is initiated that tells the OS to warn the user before saving the screenshot. This way the user is actually educated on the risk while still respecting their right to control the outcome.
have_faith··on London Gatwick has launched a robotic airport parking service
Article says one of the terminals is within walking distance
have_faith··on Three ways people respond to a problem (other than solving it)
Does anyone within the system genuinely feel threatened by the idea that something like "crime" can be "solved" to the point that they're avoiding solving too much crime? Same logic for the others.
have_faith··on The lost joy of music piracy
It's a bit "bright" for a lot of techno, but it is very repetitive. Techno is a very broad genre with lot's of fuzzy edges. I'm suddenly reminded of Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music: https://music.ishkur.com/
have_faith··on Show HN: SubjectiveZero, an open-source agentic node editor for creative coding
I did a lot of work with vvvv, Processing, and other creative coding tools at uni and immediately could see the influence. Haven’t had a chance to play with it yet but looks promising. Would it work well for live performance do you think?
have_faith··on TypeScript 7
`const` in JS doesn't refer to the array being immutable, only that the variable referencing it stays the same (it can't be reassigned), so this is normal in JS.
have_faith··on Every new car sold in the European Union must include a driver monitoring camera
I’ve got 2017 Yeti (last year they were made) with 80k miles on it, will probably keep it for another decade. I wish I could buy an electric yeti but everything else about it staying the same.
have_faith··on The CEO of Mullvad is the main financer of the Swedish Örebro party
Coming across information isn't the same as:

- having the emotional energy reserves left to act on it

- fully understanding the repercussions of the thing

- feeling like your actions in this case will have any affect

- many other reasons you can't stay consistent from an outsiders perspective

You're trying to apply an objective measure of reality to everyone else: if they disagree with X, they must therefore also disagree with Y, otherwise they shouldn't act on X. It's an unreasonable expectation of perfect action.

have_faith··on The CEO of Mullvad is the main financer of the Swedish Örebro party
There's nothing wrong with acting on new information as and when it surfaces in your life without obsessively staying up to date with every entity you engage with. That's the reasonable, pragmatic approach to trying to do the right thing without overwhelming yourself with the burden of being perfect.

It's not a gotcha if you're inconsistent from an outsiders perspective, we're all doing the best we can with what little insight we have into reality.

have_faith··on Tidal AI Policy
Why would someone doing that voluntarily tag their content as AI? they can make money by hiding it.
have_faith··on Seven Perfect Shuffles Randomize a Deck of Cards. But How Many Sloppy Ones?
And 8 perfect shuffles resets it back to starting order (perfect being cards interlaced 1 by 1)
have_faith··on Solar Energy Saves Europeans $135M a Day
China might produce the most panels at volume but this isn't a hardline monopoly like being able to cut off oil pipelines. We can produce panels ourselves if we _need_ to (as a coalition of friendly countries), it will of course be more expensive, but expensive is better than not possible.

Also, the more panels we already have, the less reliant we are. Energy doesn't stop flowing because deliveries of new panels stop during a conflict. You just pause expansion. A very different scenario to fuel reserves running dry in weeks.

have_faith··on Ask HN: Why hasn't there been a real competitor to Ticketmaster yet?
> Scalpers are optimizing the market.

This is sort of applying the same logic that justifies high frequency trading except in this particular case, the market overlaps with the arts.

Society at large values "fairness" in a hard to define but culturally important way and "let the free market determine the price" for access runs counter to that I think in many peoples minds.

I think it's generally very easy to come up with various solutions that solve the problem, that all likely reduce the profit made by intermediaries like ticketmaster, it's purely political will and people kicking up enough fuss to implement it.

have_faith··on S&P 500 rejects SpaceX, also blocking entry for OpenAI and Anthropic
What’s the time horizon do you think for free models matching today’s SOTA on average consumer hardware? I see people building 6k+ machines to run the best of them at the moment, which are behind SOTA by maybe 6 - 12 months or so right now.
have_faith··on New statue in London, attributed to Banksy, of a suited man, blinded by a flag
Are you from the UK and know what the piece is a reference to? It’s topical and unpretentious and comes at a time where the country is splintering. Feels a like a bit of a distant midwit take to take shots at the appeal it has.
have_faith··on SFO Quiet Airport (2025)
No, but I’ve heard Aphex Twin in an aquarium once. Bristol (UK) for anyone interested, which fits.
have_faith··on Claude mixes up who said what
It's all roleplay, they're no actors once the tokens hit the model. It has no real concept of "author" for a given substring.
have_faith··on Fast and Gorgeous Erosion Filter
The video was really well done, very interesting even though I’m not very familiar with the subject. Is this the sort of thing that would go into a game like No Man’s Sky to improve the planet generation?
have_faith··on A better streams API is possible for JavaScript
Partially true. They've been trained and then aligned towards a preferred style. They don't use em-dashes because they are over-represented in the training material (majority of people don't use them).
have_faith··on Tell HN: MitID, Denmark's digital ID, was down
Regular banks create new money all the time (loans). There’s no difference to the central bank conceptually as far as I understand, they both record debits/credits to accounts (double entry).
have_faith··on The Hunt for Dark Breakfast
Eating a lot of food is tiring and you have plenty of energy stored from the previous day(s) food.
have_faith··on New accounts on HN more likely to use em-dashes
Unlikely in non-english languages (I seem to remember some super wide Arabic "single character" ones...?)
have_faith··on Email experiments: filtering out external images
So does Apple Mail, for anyone wondering.
have_faith··on Spotify won court order against Anna's Archive, taking down .org domain
I cancelled my Spotify the other day in favour of listening to my own archive. I’m admittedly an outlier though.
have_faith··on After 25 years, Wikipedia has proved that news doesn't need to look like news
No one who regularly watches biased news sources does so while acknowledging the constant bias. And I don’t think most people think the BBC is unbiased, it’s constantly attacked as having bias to both sides of the aisle ironically. The BBC is far from perfect but it’s in a different league to Fox News to the point that it feels disingenuous to suggest you’d be better off watching Fox News while telling yourself that you’re filtering out the bias.
