hauget··on F-Droid 2.0
My problem with F-Droid has always been the lack of app reviews: no way to separate the good from the ugly and the bad.

hauget··on Data, Ego, and the Future of Pebble
Great unbiased write up on the recent Rebble vs Core kerfuffle.
hauget··on Pebble Time 2 Design Reveal [video]
When you turn Notifications off for showing, they're just in the "inbox" & won't show on the watchface when received. You can then just access them whenever you want from the menu OR you can create a button shortcut that activates when pressing down.

FYI the previous generation of Pebble OS did not have a message counter, but this generation will apparently add this to its complications.

hauget··on Mozilla to shut down Pocket and Fakespot
RE: Pocket, I could care less as I've been an Instapaper user for years, but it does give one a hint at the direction Mozilla has been on for a number of years now...

RE: Fakespot, this one really really hurts. Even if the ratings weren't accurate sometimes, it helped guide me in the direction of finding and distinguishing bad/fake products from good (or good enough). I always wondered what their business model was... Sad to see that their competitor Reviemeta also died out. Is there no hope for an alternative to these? Any thoughts on making a service like Fakespot and having it be profitable or at least self-sustaining? I can only think of a subscription service for having curated reviews, maybe prioritizing reviews from susbscribers...

hauget··on Rabbit: LLM-First Mobile Phone
I hope they succeed. Would buy this if it worked offline. Wish Pebble hadn't gone broke and had launched their Pebble Core device. Always thought it was a great idea.
hauget··on Mistral AI Valued at $2B
His point is with regards to reaching & maintaining profitability, not revenue spending.
hauget··on Humane AI Pin
This is easy to fix IMHO. Pair a small screen in the future for typing or have a cuff link mic for whispering. You will see accessories like these pop up in the near future.
hauget··on Twitter Is Banning Prominent Journalists Criticizing Elon Musk
The First Amendment of the US Constitution defines free speech as protection from government interference in free expression. Twitter is a corporation, free speech laws don’t apply. It can ban anyone it likes. This is perfectly legal.
hauget··on The euro has tumbled near parity to the US dollar
How does this compare to foreign exchange reserves of other countries like the US & China?
hauget··on Master’s Degree in Computer Science
Why not just go through MIT's open courseware syllabus, or perhaps emailing/contacting a university teacher for guidance?
hauget··on Wirecutter strike and boycott Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday
Q: Would you trust, or find useful, thumbs up reviews from people you follow online? Say you could see a collection of stuff people endorse via Twitter/IG, would that be of value to you?
hauget··on More Casio Watch Mods
I loved my W-735H! Wore it for a long time as it's great for Pomodoro. Gave it to a friend after I replaced my trusty Polar m430 for a Garmin Instinct as it has a vibrating function AND the ability to program multiple countdown timers. After a few months though, I started missing the dedicated vibrating function and bought a used GD-350 off Ebay. It has basically the same features, BUT looks way better, is a G-SHOCK and has a dedicated timer starter button. Still prefer the Instinct as I can have multiple countdown timers already programmed, but the GD-350 is still a gem of a watch.

Exactly.
hauget··on Apple asks staff to return to office 3 days a week starting in early September
Masks should be optional UNLESS you're NOT vaccinated.
hauget··on Ask HN: Mobile phone addiction help?
1) what about setting up parental controls on your iOS device so you can't install other apps? Then give the master pswd to someone you trust. Would that help? 2) I would strongly advise seeking therapy, as your problem IMHO requires systemic solutions to address the root causes. Cheers.
hauget··on Ask HN: What tech job would let me get away with the least real work possible?
Try looking for jobs at international development organizations (e.g. World bank, Inter-American Development Bank, etc). They're pretty chill and pay ok. https://www.devex.com/ is a good place to start. NOTE: most IT jobs will require either a masters in CS or certifications.
hauget··on CutiePi – A Raspberry Pi 4 tablet
Why the downvote? It's a decent eink tablet.

hauget··on We live in an age of distractions, dealing with constant mental stimulus
Sorry about that, the book is called "ADHD 2.0" by John Ratey :) Small typo.

hauget··on We live in an age of distractions, dealing with constant mental stimulus
This, and undiagnosed and untreated ADHD. By the way, for anyone struggling with ADD, check out a book called" by Johhn Ratey the way. It's GREAT. He also wrote Spark, which I think everyone should read.
hauget··on Ask HN: Why are e-ink note-taking devices so expensive compared to iPads?
That, and the lack of documentation on repairability. I mean, I don't want to invest $450 on a device I can't fix or change the battery down the line.
hauget··on The Teeniest Tiniest Laptop in the West
That but an ergonomic built-in stand, no keyboard.
