harryp_peng··on Helen Keller on her life before self-consciousness (1908)
Technically 'daddy' is a name. A name is fundamentally just a label that we use to identify other people and objects. Post Malone, your first and last name are part of the universal naming system like the Kilometer, and 'daddy' is a personal system relative to the conscious experience of the user.
harryp_peng··on AI Ruined Quora
Because sometimes no one actually answered that question, quora just publishes many titles to index to google.
harryp_peng··on No One Knows What Universities Are For
Idk about university, but high school is indisputably important because it's training data for the brain.
harryp_peng··on [dead]
the internet, just pixels when you have nobody with verifiable consciousness one questions the existence

nothing is real but my mind shouts consciousness! a dilema

harryp_peng··on The Stripper Index: An unorthodox recession measurement
Out of context: what is sex? Is it physical satisfaction or romantic connection?
harryp_peng··on GPT-4.5 or GPT-5 being tested on LMSYS?
I always use GPT4 to write boiler plate code etc. It probably automates 50% of my tasks, pretty good.
harryp_peng··on GPT-4.5 or GPT-5 being tested on LMSYS?
But humans aren't 'original' ourselves. How do you do 3*9? You memorized it. It's striking how humans could reason at all.
harryp_peng··on GPT-4.5 or GPT-5 being tested on LMSYS?
Humans supervising models solving difficult problems is the beginning of an AGI society.
harryp_peng··on GPT-4.5 or GPT-5 being tested on LMSYS?
You know at one point we wouldn't be able to benchmark them, due to the sheer complexity of the test required. I.e. if you are testing a model on maths, the problem will have to be extremely difficult to even consider a 'hustle' for the LLM; it would then take you a day to work out the solution yourself.

See where it's getting at? When humans are no longer on the same spectrum as LLMs, that's probably the definition of AGI.

harryp_peng··on GPT-4.5 or GPT-5 being tested on LMSYS?
This really is the fastest growing technology of all time. Do you feel the curve? I remember Mixtral8x7b dominating for months; I expected data bricks to do the same! but it was washed out of existence in days, with 8x22b, llama3, gemini1.5... WOW.
harryp_peng··on The Vision Pro is a flop
Excuse me, the first Macintosh was 7,300 in today's dollars, and did far less.
harryp_peng··on Google Earning Q1 2024 [pdf]
Consider this: You ask a question (go to google) to solve a problem. But an LLM solve it for you. That's why they are popular in programming.

However, besides this, google is still my go to for relevant information on entertainment and news etc.

harryp_peng··on Google Earning Q1 2024 [pdf]
I'm bullish on GOOGL - Gemini 1.5 Pro is insanely good! GCP is also democratizing the cloud; I think the market share will only increase.
harryp_peng··on Google Earning Q1 2024 [pdf]
What's even the google hate? the company is great and provides value. Why go into the rabbit hole of worse products?
harryp_peng··on Google Earning Q1 2024 [pdf]
Google is just good. You use it to get human answer to a question and find relevant information on a topic. Those are of human nature.
harryp_peng··on Google Earning Q1 2024 [pdf]
It's not about money - how valuable the company is depends on how many people use it intersect how useful it is. As long as it's valuable, it's valuable.
harryp_peng··on Biden signs TikTok bill into law, starting clock for ByteDance to divest
You're right, but to the consumer like me I cherish how I'm able to connect to my favorite individuals like Andrej Karpathy and still learn a lot. I guess most people are likely the same, and spend an awful amount of time daily on this, whether they know it or not.
harryp_peng··on Biden signs TikTok bill into law, starting clock for ByteDance to divest
Nah, social media is the status quo. It's impossible to 'refrain' from the status quo, unless you invent something an order of magnitude greater.
harryp_peng··on Biden signs TikTok bill into law, starting clock for ByteDance to divest
Have you even used TikTok? Facebook connects you with the people around you, and TikTok connects you with your favorite people on earth. That's the essence of the product.
harryp_peng··on Rabbit R1 source code [part 1]
Worst possible thing is that bozos learn the closed source model. The closed source model only worked because they had the Great SJ.
harryp_peng··on Vision Pro Demand Dwindles as Customer Interest Dropped After Initial Hype
No, it's simply a faster way to operate a computer. Imagine if you didn't have to scroll and click using a mouse - that alone is a killer.
harryp_peng··on Vision Pro Demand Dwindles as Customer Interest Dropped After Initial Hype
Yeah, it's the future, and will definitely be buying it. That and neural interface will be the desktop off 2040 I think.
harryp_peng··on I nearly died drowning
Why would your brain 'split into sadness and action' on the brink of death? Because mine would go GPU and split into multiple threads of solutions.
harryp_peng··on A quick post on Chen's algorithm
dude are you nuts the whole point of all that was to steal you without the key
harryp_peng··on This is a teenager
yeah, I mean, I made it (what was it?) I think I became conscious and awake at 16, and with a computer did anything imaginable. We have all became 10x with the internet, and will probably be 100x with AI.
harryp_peng··on Lessons after a Half-billion GPT Tokens
You only processed 500m tokens, which is shockingly little. perhaps only 2k in incurred costs?
harryp_peng··on Humane AI Pin review: not even close
I cannot believe this paradigm, how new multi million dollar startups are basic wrappers that can be built by anyone interested enough in less than a day
harryp_peng··on Humane AI Pin review: not even close
just look at it - perplexity wrapper with native hardware. perplexity has vision! and besides perplexity, it just uses some simple function calling to get weather etc. I can build that in a day.

as of the ultimate vision, it is not yet clear, and it would be dumb for anyone to get into this "AI phone replacement" business. There are far better use cases tho, which are clear to execute, like Schiffman.

harryp_peng··on GPT-4 Turbo with Vision is a step backwards for coding
Daniel kokatajlo already answered that I think
harryp_peng··on Launch HN: Aqua Voice (YC W24) – Voice-driven text editor
I don't think there is genuine use cases to this except for accessibility features etc. I always doubted voice; however, I'm beginning to see that Oai Voice Engine will potentially be huge and incredibly addicting to chat to. I.e. it's more interesting to confide in a human sounding 'friend' that vanilla ChatGPT with keyboards.
