hanru··on Notepad++ v8.4.3: Unhappy Users' Edition
IMO this is not funny -- think of "God" surrounded by "Shit" and think again how many people would be irritated.

Sure, the author is free to put any text in the explanatory image. But I'd say his arrogance is going too far...

hanru··on How I centralize and distribute my bookmarks
This is really a good idea, a new way to consume rotten bookmarks.
hanru··on Winding down my Debian involvement
> In my opinion, most Debian's issues stem from a centralized imperative package manager where all packages need to be carefully kept in sync for things to work.

Hmm, in my opinion, this is good thing, not an issue needs to be solved.

hanru··on Ask HN: Which abandoned proprietary software would you resurrect?
I don’t think Google Photo is a desktop software. And it cannot be used offline.
hanru··on Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System (2008) [pdf]
This is a genius’s reply to a genius’s idea. Nice to read.
hanru··on Why ProtonMail is more secure than Gmail
It also makes me feel uncomfortable when reading zero knowledge things in non-cryptography sense.
hanru··on Pinboard Acquires Delicious
Two posts made my day today: this one and the "Fuck Facebook" one.
hanru··on Menu Bar icon app to monitor network quality (using ping)
On Windows 7 and later, the system will automatically detect network connectivity and alert user if there's no internet access. I've spent some time on learning how this works, and here is the technical detail: http://blog.superuser.com/2011/05/16/windows-7-network-aware...

I wonder why OS X doesn't have such a useful functionality...

hanru··on Turing Test Success
It seems the submitter has passed your Turing test. ;)
hanru··on The New Linode Cloud: SSDs, Double RAM and much more
Linode is Xen; DO is KVM.
hanru··on KeePass: OpenSource Password Manager
Looks interesting and geeky. Will definitely try this someday. Thanks for the recommendation.
hanru··on Baretorrent: minimalist open-source Bittorrent client
+1 again for Transmission. For Linux and *nix in general, it's the best IMO. Sadly there's no official release for Windows.

For downloading automation, I use FlexGet (http://flexget.com/).

hanru··on Terms of Service update
When I clicked the "endorsement" link, I was redirected to a "Join Google+" page. So I guess it's only applicable to Google+ (now).
