Opinion revised: I'm looking forward to the day when a "handwritten" letter causes your aging mother to forward your inheritance to a scammer. Stop doing things you know are wrong to make a quick buck.
I was about to get out my pitchfork but then I discovered that this is not used for marketing false authenticity. It is actually used in a service that attempts to help people lower their property tax rates. Due to the peculiar aspects of how this works in Texas, a "handwritten" note can improve the chances of a reduction.
If the US was nuked into oblivion the only things remaining would be cockroaches and intellectual property attorneys. I don't know why I repeated myself just there.
Tesla and Spacex are not perfect corollaries but they have shown that it is possible to produce things in the US at a lower cost so long as some level of quality is an important aspect of the product. It requires a level of competence that these thin marketing shells of companies like Nike etc cannot achieve though. The underlying problem is that they have lost any know how about how shoes are made, their only remaining competency is how to push slop down the marketing chute.
I think an overlooked part of teslas very high valuation is that it seems inevitable that legacy, stagnant and mostly incompetent companies like Ford and GM will fold (and would have long since if they didn't keep getting propped up by the feds).
I'm am at a loss that otherwise smart people didn't see this coming. The employer/employee relationship is ALWAYS adversarial. An employer is never ever ever going to be watching out for your interests as an employee and always going to be seeking the maximum means of exploiting you, act accordingly. This isn't a new thing. It's not much consolation but mailchimp folks still made out way better than wework folks.
Adam Neuman is every bit the fraudster Elizbeth Holmes is, he just wasn't in a regulated industry. He repeatedly fabricated fake financials and fradulent books to trick investors. His victims (private equity) mostly realized it was a scam and played a huge game of ponzi scheme until, for reasons that seem particularly murky, softbank made them all whole. No one had any illusions once Neuman starting cashing out his own positions in 2015.
wework 2.0 . 200x+ valuation to earnings. Spend 400 million to get 1 billion in revenue, not the worst that has been seen. "$1 billion annualized revenue run-rate". We said it that way cause putting it in GAAP terms would make people realize the emperor has no clothes.
The underlying math (read cryptographic implementation choices) and people backing Zcash are extremely suspect. These days everything gets all lumped under one crypto banner but from a first principles standpoint I find things like bitcoin and monero extremely sound. On the same basis I find, very unpopular opinion, say ETH, is just trash. Zcash is even worse in that it seems largely in intentional scam.
For those that may not be familiar, the relatively strong anonymity on Monero is via a cryptographic mechanism known as "ring signatures". Separate from cryptocurrency they are a useful cryptographic technique for many things: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_signature
There are many things to like about a Telsa as a conveyance. But if you buy one and you think it is anything more than a CaaS (car as a service) you are lying to yourself.
Two other considerations that completely rule out ever buying a Tesla for me are the astronomical insurance rates and the corollary which is that virtually any accident will be 10k+ and your insurance is likely to total the car so that they can profit off it at auction (while you get your 80c on the dollar out).
I don't see why this should come as a surprise. The government poisoned liquor during prohibition, injected plutonium into unwitting pregnant women, gave innocent people syphilis while giving them fake treatments to see how it killed them (and just for the heck of it because the victims were black), and on and on.
A lot of people are trying to interpret this. I read the complete paper. This is very far from any kind of conclusive result that says 5G presents serious risks to human health. However it does raise a couple of important considerations that warrant further study.
This study was done on cow brain tissue outside of a skull cavity and found that in certain specific circumstances the radio frequencies used by 5G can transmit energy to brain tissues and pathways that warrant further study. That's all this paper says and it's methodology appears to be pretty credible for the conclusion reached. In somewhat of a rarity these days, this appears to be "good science".
Anyone who has actually read even the first few pages of the so called "gold standard" study cited knows it was useless and inapplicable to any meaningful public health practice. But the narrative MUST NOT BE deviated from. I don't think we as a modern civilization will recover for a hundred years from the way in which institutions like nature have debased themselves with political pandering.
They pay their engineers below and in cases half of market rates, place no organizational value on quality engineering, their CEO/head engineer is a buffoon and they have a history of screwing people with regard to equity compensation. It's not a complicated explanation at all.
The HN crowd loves to promote urbanization, density, blah blah blah. The fact that such an app exists at all is de facto proof of a failed city. Just a comic level of dysfunction. "NYC, we're so progressive we can't even address the basic requirements to support human life"
I really don't understand how Netflix is not 100% a SaaS tech company. To say they aren't in the way the article describes is to say that no SaaS companies are tech companies which is an obvious fallacy. They have dabbled in making original content but it's far from their core business.
Another "google's customer support is only available via online mob outrage" situation. Just pathetic, who isn't embarrassed to work for Google at this point?
