hamax··on Setting Go variables from the outside
Maybe there is a market for "go get" in the cloud where you could paste a repository link and get back binaries for a selected distribution. It should be pretty easy to set up too.
hamax··on Ask HN: Do you work with dogmatic, stubborn developers/sysadmins? Are YOU one?
> In my experience, the highly opinionated people who are willing to fight and argue to make their point are usually the ones you need to listen to.

My experience is completely different. People that shout during the meetings are usually the same people that don't listen to other people enough to understand the problem and continue to promote their idea of "corrections" no matter the facts.

hamax··on Not OK, Google
How do you know that firefox binary can't do that?
hamax··on Not OK, Google
I've been confused for the whole week about this. Everyone is saying it's enabled by default but it's disabled on my chrome 44 and I don't remember ever disabling it explicitly in settings.
hamax··on The male suicides: how social perfectionism kills
It's ridiculous to talk about how bad the situation is for men on TV, when a lot of movies don't even pass the bechdel test which has the following criterias: (1) it has to have at least two women in it, who (2) who talk to each other, about (3) something besides a man.

hamax··on The male suicides: how social perfectionism kills
Why the hack is this getting downvoted while the ridiculous post above is getting all the upvotes.

What's wrong with this community?

hamax··on Women preferred 2:1 over men for STEM faculty positions
> But I wouldn't consider it a bad thing

You wouldn't consider gender discrimination against women a bad thing?

Why don't you apply the same logic to the parent's comment, and consider it a good thing that he has to work harder to get the job he wants? Probably the extra fight will teach him to appreciate the job even more. Or something.

hamax··on Women preferred 2:1 over men for STEM faculty positions
This ridiculous thing is the second top comment in the HN thread and people still try to say we don't have a problem with sexism in the industry.
hamax··on Women preferred 2:1 over men for STEM faculty positions
Seriously?
hamax··on Silicon Valley gets a taste for food
True, but making mayo for 300M Americans will never be small scale.
hamax··on Chris Beard Named CEO of Mozilla
Wow, the comments...

Some people seem to be really mad about some other people voicing their opinion.

hamax··on Google Drive is down (502. That’s an error.)
For me (also EU), it was down for around 10 minutes.
hamax··on Google Drive is down (502. That’s an error.)
My workstation had way more downtime this year than Google drive.
hamax··on I ported a JavaScript app to Dart
Saying X isn't worth discussing but something worse than X maybe would be isn't a strawman.
hamax··on Standing strong and staying Mozillian
I agree. I should have said that I care less not that I don't care.
hamax··on Standing strong and staying Mozillian
I don't care what Mozilla's CEO thinks, I care what the public thinks he thinks. Public figures with openly homophobic views are much more dangerous than a random homophobic grandpa because they signal to the public that there is nothing wrong with it.

"Fake it til you make it" works because most prejudices are kept alive because of conformation bias and herd mentality.

hamax··on Mozilla CEO Eich says gay-marriage firestorm could hurt Firefox
> Do they, as a society have that right?

I'm not really sure which right, but probably no.

> How about things that other societies have abolished already, like the death penalty or the world's biggest incarceration rate (predominantly on blacks)?

Yes, let's play oppression olympics.

hamax··on Mozilla CEO Eich says gay-marriage firestorm could hurt Firefox
What about a theistic CEO who would found a campaign against atheistic marriage?
hamax··on Mozilla CEO Eich says gay-marriage firestorm could hurt Firefox
> Since marriage was originally defined by religion

This is not actually true. Marriage is a very very old concept.

hamax··on The crushing lameness of April Fools Day on the Internet.
Besides spending 15 minutes searching for pokemons and 5 minutes enjoying the htc gluuv joke, this is just a normal day for me.

I really don't see anything to be mad about.

hamax··on Google sued for data-mining students' email
If they would be an email provider, yes.
hamax··on Google Doodle Upholds Gay Rights Ahead of Sochi Olympics
This is embarrassing for the whole community. But I won't say it surprises me, I lost most of the hope while reading comments about anything gender related.
hamax··on Your Warming World: Climate change where you live 1894 – 2013
I haven't realized how anti science HN is. Scary.
hamax··on Smoking is Worse Than You Imagined
> "well it's a great way to finance chemotherapies"

That's not how it works. Cigarette tax doesn't go directly to the healthcare budget. At least in most countries.

> Smoking is a luxury.

And a very strong addiction.

hamax··on Patent trolls have a surprising ally: universities
With your suggestion only the largest companies would be able to apply for patents. For Apple, Google or MS a couple of million dollars means nothing for a patent. But it infeasible for a startup or smaller research groups.
hamax··on HN Pizza Index: Cost of living by city
Ljubljana-SI: 8 EUR ~ 11 USD
hamax··on More On Gmail’s Delivery Delays
As a counterpoint, nobody I know experienced any problems with gmail yesterday. Including coworkers.
hamax··on Snowden granted 1-year asylum in Russia, leaves airport
This is so backwards I'm embarrassed to be reading it on HN.
hamax··on Mark Shuttleworth Reddit AMA today
> I'm not sure why they absolutely need to sell only a 128 GB version.

I'm just guessing here but it might be more expensive to make smaller batches with different models the to just make one.

hamax··on Ubuntu Edge lowers prices on IndieGogo
Since the chart isn't live, here is my hack: http://ownu.net/rate.txt

(Nobody wants to see the code behind this :)
