Hell you'd be surprised how much you can still do on a old 386 with win 3.1. Pretty much anything word processing was perfected in that era, those old versions of office still work just fine.
While you could write all you wanted with an apple ii, I wouldn't really call that as usable as something like an early version of word which is very familiar for anyone that used word pre ribbon.
By far a better email service and the 2fa just works.
16-32GB of RAM on the SOC, with DRAM sockets for usage past the built in amount.
Though by the time we see an ARM MacPro they might move to stacked DRAM on the SOC. But i'd really think two tier memory system would be apple's method of choice.
I'd also expect a dual SOC setup.
So I don't expect to see that anytime soon.
I'd love to get my hands on a Mac Mini with the M1 Max.
But i'm sure when it actually releases they will have an entire driver suite for windows. You could gut the linux install, load up windows with the drivers. Get two docks, one for the desktop and the other for your tv. Dock it on the desk for a normal desktop experience, You have SD Card and Network Shares for expanded storage. If you want to game on the TV just connect a Xbox controller to it, otherwise just time before we get another steam controller.
For me this is temping largely for the fact that windows can be installed and I'd be able to boot up games off my Gamepass.
Trucks and SUVs make for great family movers.
I have a full sized half ton truck, It is the main family hauler. But I use the bed alot and tow my boat or trailer all the time.
But something small like a Ford Escape is perfect for most, and that is why there are so many of these compact crossovers on the road. They are bigger than a Car, higher up, and the back seats can be fold down to allow for a lot of storage room. Our secondary Vehicle is a Escape titanium, and see these everywhere along with Rav4's and CRVs. Really the only 3 compact crossovers worth looking at IMO.
In the US a Genocide has been underway for decades. The cost of healthcare will break people. A trip to the doctor can easily wipe out life savings, what little there is for most people. Considering more than half the US population lives paycheck to paycheck to nearly paycheck to paycheck lifestyles, its easy to see how Most Americans are nothing more than slaves that go to work and back home in a endless cycle. That is not freedom. And sure they can quit, and live out in the streets if they wanted. Its a shit life.
Americans are so caught up in thinking the government is the bad guy here. No the real bad guy is the companies like Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Exxon, Verizon, ATT, Capital one, Chase, any CC company, plus the many Pharma companies. The list can go on and on.
With no protection for allowing people to get into 10-20k+ worth of CC debt at 22-28% APR, People will always be slaves.
Honestly its easy to see the USA as a Cancer. I dont blame China for wanting to break away from the ideals of the western world. Now they have made a lot of bad choices. But at the same time the USA is largely responsible for keeping the middle east a 3rd world society.
Americans enjoy living in a bubble, They love to think they are free. They are not free!
I'm an American, and I'm just as much of a slave to the system as the rest of you. The system is so rigged that any true free speech is easily spun around. Just look at all the crazy trump supporters, Slaves not only to unchecked capitalism but to also propaganda labeled as factful free speech.
That being said I hate windows 11 and the choices made. While I love windows 10, as it mainly just works and was a big set up from 7.
I use Linux nearly 90% of the time in server space. With Windows VM's mostly for the AD Domain Controller and Print Server, as Windows AD in a Azure AD Hybrid setup works great for user control. Integrates into my Linux server for a synced user control. The Linux alt is a janky option. Keeping user accounts locked down is pretty important for production systems.
The Linux desktop scene however is a great deal better than it used to be. Back in the Day I used to rock opensuse on a IBM T61, everything worked out the box with that install. Something Ubuntu at the time did not do. But the lack of software was always an issue and wine was not what it is today. Office 2000 and other old windows apps ended up working fine.
Linux on the Server is by far the reality, and windows on the server is mostly for use as a domain controller or print server.
Android simply does most thing UI better. The pull down menu and notifications, the app drawer, the home screens, the settings menu layouts, etc. Sure there are some iOS UI elements that are done better, such as gestures. But really iOS shines more under the hood.
Every year iOS keeps getting more and more Android features. App Library, Pull Down menus, more customizable home screens with widgets. There are so many things Android was doing years before iOS it is crazy. Maybe oneday Apple will fix the crappy settings menu and finally make the pulldown window a full copy of android with quick settings at the top.
Using iOS is consistently more of a Torture to use than Android any day of the week.
I would have hopped by now that integration with dropbox, Sharepoint/Onedrive, Google Drive would have gotten better. But they are mostly barebones.
Granted Google Drive is barebones on nearly every platform.
I'm a big 365 user, and that is by far the best experience so far in terms of fluid use between devices and apps. Especially on windows, where even sharing a file doesn't require a Web browser popup. But oh man the admin side of 365 is overly complex, and easy to see why people use gsuite.
iCloud Sucks and has always sucked. Unless that is you are 100% apple ecosystem. Integration into my onsite server is easy with 365, google, and dropbox. Icloud is super clunky and really thinking about moving the Wife to something other than iCloud.
I will say they have no problem booting up a VM, and everything he is doing can be done in a VM with hardware accelerated graphics. So Full screened feels just like the real thing, as long as you are not playing modern games. Boot into windows for that.
That being said there are Windows Laptops that will give a Macbook Pro a run for the money, but when it comes to the $1k price range the Macbook Air is hard to beat. I like the ARM chips for basic users, but for a Power user the ARM chips are a step backwards. Unless you want to run ARM based Linux. With my many years of raspberry pi use, ARM has gone a long way on the Linux front. But not sure if i'd want to rock that as my main.
At the same time you can do all these things on Windows as well.... Really more of a personal preference. I have limited experience with Linux for Windows Subsystem 2, but it worked damn well when I used it.
I personally never had a problem with Macbooks, and surprised he just didn't work in a VM. I do 90% of my daily work in a VM on my Macbook, either running Arch or Debian. Everything just works. But I can not stand with apple's choice of moving to ARM for a power user.
My Next Machine will run windows as the base OS. I'll test out their Linux for Windows Subsystem, but most likely just boot up the same VMware VM's i've been using for a long time. Between Snapshots and backups to both my onsite server and my Personal Sharepoint, I never have an issue.
Spotify for music though, it just works and easy to push music around my home.
People are not smoking pot as a trill of breaking the law. Just as drinking alcohol before the age of 21 is not for the trill of breaking the law, but for the feeling it gives.
Alcohol is in every way worse for you as a person and for society, yet it is fully legal.
I don't smoke simply because my Job requires a pot free lifestyle. But I spent the first half of my 20s doing it, and the last thing on my mind or anyone else was "Take that LawMan".
Plus you can be a daily smoker for 6+ years and quit cold turkey. Sure you might crave it, but that is more mental. Your body doesn't break down from not having it. Unless you have poor mental control to keep yourself from breaking. Its the same weak control that fools people into dumping money into mobile games.
It's not because of the thill. It's because people like to relax or focus. There are two different main strains and both do different things, one is more relaxing the other is more energizing.
Taking advantage of money is exactly what you want to do. Money will make you more money. So not having money working for you only works to keep you down. The more money you have working for you, the more it makes in a given part of time. Want to create generational wealth, you'll need to make as much $$ as you possibly can and teach your kids how to keep growing their chunk after you pass.
As someone that grew up in a lower middle class home where extra cash just didn't exist. My dedication in life is to make my children set in life. I was lucky enough to find a career path to allow for such entitlement. No it is not a sad life, its only sad if said money is purely for self indulgement.
The actual Hospitals and Doctors in America have always been hands down better. Its only if you can afford it. Really any top tier Silicon Valley job is going to come with pretty good heath insurance. The Subpar Healthcare is more or less a poor person problem. Nothing like destroying net worth like having to go to the doctor with sub par insurance. Getting 3-6K+ in bills over a few nonsense visits.
Like I said before I wouldn't move to America either. But to think the EU isn't a$$ Backwards in many ways would be an understatement. I lived in the UK for 3 years, and like most of Europe school system is a hit or miss depending on location. Private Schooling is not uncommon in America for that reason.
This in part is why Americans in higher level careers (family's with income of 120K+) tend to retire with more money in their retirement accounts than their EU brothers. Nearly all my Fellow successful 30yo's had over 50K in their 401k when they turned 30. The ones that didn't are ones that will most likely always jump around to different entry level jobs.
Any Journeymen not taking home north of $65k should be looking for another job, as their employer is screwing them over. There simply isn't enough of them and employers will gladly pay for someone experienced to join their work force. Even with the recent massive pay increases it is hard to keep people from going somewhere else for even higher pay.
A website like that doesn't really keep up with what is really happening in a field like that. $100K/year working 50-60hours a week is not uncommon.
Electricians in the US easily make over $70k early on, and over $100k with in a few years. And that isn't even the best paying trade job.
An experienced Programmer easily can get a job making 120k+, and that isn't even in the valley.
That being said, I wouldn't want to move here either. You get paid more, the homes are nicer and more private, and you fit a big SUV down any road. But the medical system sucks, and really takes a toll on take home $$. Especially with kids. Along with that you have idiots that think trump was the second coming of jesus. And do nothing more than cry about thing that will only hurt them in the long run.
There is a reason why Azure and AWS based cloud systems are pretty much a standard. There isn't a solid alt.
O365 Exchange keep you free from worrying about keeping your server up to date. O365 Teams allows for not only communication but collaboration. Teams integrates with SharePoint allowing for project sites. O365 Sharepoint & Onedrive allow for extremely flexible data storage and data shares. With all the permission options you'd ever need. You can move your AD Login's user folder to use your personal Onedrive account, a highly effective tool.
There just isn't good options to replace O365. Google's GSuite is a crappy alt for Admins that couldn't figure out 365's complex admin consoles.
They clearly are talking about Teams, Sharepoint, Onedrive, and Outlook.
O365 is by far the best option out there, especially compared to others in the same price range. Like Google's Gsuit which for the money is a second rate product. Only reason why GSuite is even used for many is ease of use. MS's 365 suite requires an experienced IT wizard to setup correctly. With about a dozen Admin consoles to shift through, especially with any Azure services used.
A real O365 alternative would be bad news for MS, and would require a massive amount of cash. It took over a decade to get 365 where it is now. This isn't something you can build overnight.
EU at this time put a deadline to the end of use for lead based solder, so the move to leadfree solder was done right before moving to mass manufacturing. The poor cooling solution on the 360 compared to its heat output didn't do the system justice. The PCB would flex as it would not be heated evenly.
After Die shrinks and manufacturing revisions, more mature lead free solder also used. The Jasper units were pretty much tanks, and the cooling solution was oversized as they were the same as before with the much hotter and power demanding lager die first gen chips.
Video Cards from the era of the launch 360 are notoriously unreliable for the same reasons. Heat cycles were a death wish, luckily for videocards they normally had a cool down period after gaming idling at a desktop. While the 360 would commonly go from 100% load term load to off.
Firewall rules, use of many networks & vlans, and different ssids for different type of wifi traffic. Make for a secure home.
I have no problems with IoT devices, and online services. As long as used in a smart way. Honestly for IoT Devices, use more advanced networking hardware. I'm all for home automation and smart devices, but they all are on private networks separated out with vlans and kept in line with firewall rules. They only do what is needed, and many private networks are key here. My Camera network doesn't even touch the outside world, but my DVR software allows me to remote view from anywhere.
I'm a heavy user of two factor auth, and really this is the biggest factor in keeping you safe. Not using Multifactor is the biggest flaw in peoples idea of being secure. I don't care if your password is complex.
While I do like Nextcloud, be careful with it. This is not something you should really trust you data with unless you have a pretty beefy setup under it. Like a Pretty well configured Freenas setup or something. Data rot is a real thing, and HDD failures are a real thing. Cloud backups are a thing for a reason, and Onedrive is a cheap way to make sure photos will live on. I can't stress this enough, as i've seen people loose everything from not knowing how to configure a proper data store.
As someone that isn't a fan on jank, used a computer on a TV is something I would have done years ago when I was in school and broke. But I paid for 4K and 7.2 surround and you are not going to get that via the web browser
But Intel already had been beaten by AMD, and for the foreseeable future as well. Even on the mobile side, AMD has more performances with less power.
How will Apple stack up with AMD is the real question. This move is great for their low powered devices. But when it comes to The Pro devices, I'm sure they would have more performance for the next half decade if they just moved to AMD.
