It's a good thing SAP software is complicated or I'd be starving right now.

halfnormalform··on PFAS can suppress white blood cells’ ability to destroy invaders
I've heard something similar phrased as "Discipline doesn't scale."
halfnormalform··on Intermittent fasting associated with increased risk of early death
Correct! The word "fasting" doesn't appear anywhere in the abstract. And the study also found that shorter meal intervals (i.e., the opposite of fasting) was associated with the same thing. Nothing to do with intermittent fasting.
halfnormalform··on Biggest Barrier to Biking Is a Fear of Cars
Here in Los Angeles, they will actually be putting bike lanes down the middle of Skid Row in a year or two. Curious to see if anything changes.
halfnormalform··on S.F. landlords, property owners sue to block voter-approved vacancy tax
What a great idea! There should absolutely be a tax on hoarding more than you need or can put to use.
halfnormalform··on AirPods Pro case converted from Lightning to USB-C with open-source PCB
Everyone knows what AirPods are. They know they are magic. And here's this amazing wizard guy who can do the Apple magic better/faster/different. That's a huge audience there.
halfnormalform··on Procrastination and the priority of short-term mood regulation
And they do a whole lot of good for some people!
halfnormalform··on Ask HN: Does “choose not to identify” hurt your chances when applying online?
Like an EEO questionnaire? It probably doesn't matter. No one who is making a hiring decision is supposed to see that information, and it only gets used for reporting purposes (so they can prove they aren't discriminating against anyone).

I'd be very surprised if any legitimate recruitment tool exposed that information to anyone evaluating you.

halfnormalform··on Ask HN: Something you’ve done your whole life that you realized is wrong?
Absolutely! I know what the sides of my car looks like and don't need to see them in the side mirrors. Cars leave the edge of the rearview and immediately show up on the inside edge of the side mirror. I love it, but anyone else who drives my car hates it.
halfnormalform··on Ask HN: Something you’ve done your whole life that you realized is wrong?
You probably wouldn't need it in a single-family dwelling, but there's a recirculation system in my 100+ unit building and it works great. Once it was turned off by accident and it took almost a minute to get hot water. Multiply that by all the neighbors and it seems like a good bargain.
halfnormalform··on Sexual loneliness: A neglected public health problem?
Unless you're part of the community the church rejected!
halfnormalform··on An IP attorney’s reading of the Stable Diffusion class action lawsuit
Just like when Napster resulted in musicians becoming super rich by selling their originals to people who found their music for free? Those things don't happen in real life.
halfnormalform··on Telling your inner critic to chill
It sounds like you had a case of Victory Disease. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victory_disease
halfnormalform··on Apple HomePod 2nd Generation
Based on the video, the new ones can be placed on wooden furniture without permanently discoloring the finish!
halfnormalform··on I measured the pollution from my gas stove
If you use an ultrasonic humidifier with a demineralization cartridge, it will turn your burners bright orange due to the sodium added to the air. It's not dangerous, but very disconcerting until you know what's up.
halfnormalform··on The first time I'm aware that Meta is taking back signed, FTE offers
Blacklists absolutely exist, but they are company-by-company. SAP HR software even comes with a special table for it.
halfnormalform··on Excess management is costing the U.S. $3T per year (2016)
Hahahahahah! Compensation has nothing to do with outcomes. Great trolling!
halfnormalform··on Rising rent, not poverty, is the real driver of homelessness
Originally, Skid Row was where the railroad tracks ended. Now it is where the social services providers are clustered.
halfnormalform··on Even Elon and Zuck don't have the juice to make an all-in-one 'super app' happen
This all in one super app existed before and it was called America Online. They sent floppy disks and CD-ROMs to every household in the country.

The problem is once everyone is there, it becomes uncool and people start to look elsewhere.

halfnormalform··on The Boring Conservatism of Elon Musk
In the modern concept of “Narcissistic Personality Disorder” the patient has had their healthy sense of self severely wounded at a very core, raw, primal level that they desperately try to cover up with constant “Narcissistic Supply” which is provided by fans, groupies, and sometimes even negative attention. Something social media provides in bulk.
halfnormalform··on Remote work is gutting downtowns
Thank you! FYI it’s from October 6th.
halfnormalform··on Binance Says Deposits of USDC (Sol)+USDT (Sol) Have Been Temporarily Suspended
Only in fantasy like Spider-Man.
halfnormalform··on Mom handcuffed, jailed for 8-year-old son walking half a mile
False. Police have zero duty to protect anyone, per the Supreme Court.
halfnormalform··on New Go-playing trick defeats world-class Go AI–but loses to human amateurs
White doesn’t fully control the disputed territory but black controls it even less.

I’m rusty but don’t see why the few black stones in the disputed territory mean anything at all—as they aren’t alive. White should get the credit.

Also, yes, play should continue. That’s the best answer.

halfnormalform··on World's second tallest rollercoaster is permanently closing
It’s closing, but the park already said it’s coming back with modifications.
halfnormalform··on The end of the manual transmission is near?
A new EV (or even ICE) Chevy LUV would be so cool. Something small, simple, and cheap.
halfnormalform··on Twins who married twins share how their sons are genetically brothers
Because it’s assortative mating.
