hajrice··on Please review my startup - Questionify
Hmm. I see your point. I'm more oriented towards having a service that takes the pain out of updating pages like these: tatango.com/help or http://community.freshbooks.com/support/

Basically, you get an email from Questionify(which contains the question from the user. Once you respond, we update your help page with that question and your answer).

haha. I was initially going to go with some random WP theme that had a "Saasy look" then I decided, eh, I could design something much better.

Yes, I did the design. Why ?

hajrice··on [dead]
A little weird ... seems to work fine for me at questionify.com too.

EDIT: Figured it out, just go to http://questionify.com instead of prefixing www; that seems to be the cause of the problem.

hajrice··on [dead]
huh that's weird ... try again? http://questionify.com/

Should be working now. Sorry about that.

hajrice··on When Google Wanted To Sell To Excite For Under $1 Million — And They Passed
My guess is that they were a bit stressed out that they weren't really hitting jackpot at the time, especially as they are today. It was early 1999, they didn't really have that many good income sources at that moment(if I'm not mistaken, they didn't even have Adsense launched back then).

They went to these guys wanting to cash out and probably lay low for a year or two ... after which I'm sure they'd be back on their feet with something new.

hajrice··on When Google Wanted To Sell To Excite For Under $1 Million — And They Passed
Even if they did sell, there's a chance that they wouldn't be as successful as today. Perhaps them NOT being locked down by some control-freak VC firm is what lead to increased success ?

Back then, if I'm not mistaken, VC firms (like the one in the story) were much more "controlling" than they are today. So, in my opinion I don't think that Google would have been as successful as they are today.

hajrice··on Ask HN: Where do you find javascript gurus?
Hey, would you mind introducing me to him. I'm hajrice@gmail.com
hajrice··on Ask HN: Where do you find javascript gurus?
Yep. Freelancers specifically it's about building a wire framing tool;
hajrice··on Ask HN: To go or not to go college?
Thanks for your feedback. It makes sense. I'll be applying to UF.
hajrice··on Ask HN: To go or not to go college?
Thanks for the advice and for noticing the typo.
hajrice··on Ask HN: To go or not to go college?
> It is about the people you'll meet there, the ideas you'll be exposed to, and the crazy opportunities that only exist in a CS dorm room at 2am.

Fair. Say you move to SF and spend 4 years. I'm pretty sure you'll meet more and probably experience a lot more things there than in college. Parties and stuff? Ah, that's great, I'm not worried about that.

hajrice··on Ask HN: Rate My Startup, Sprred
I like the idea of having a central placeholder for all my information online, but I think you came in a bit late. Here are my thoughts after 2 minutes of using your service.

* Name: I would seriously consider renaming. Sprred is a bit hard to remember...think about the average Joe. Spread? Spred? Spread? etc. Your competitors are on you at that(Posterous, Tumblr, ...)

* Design: I like the overall look and feel, it's pretty user friendly and the registration is a very quick and easy process. Perhaps add a 1-->2-->3 step slider instead of just changing the text. Something like "1) Register your blog in 5 seconds; 2) Email us; 3) There is no step 3, we take care of the rest". +1 on design.

* Concept: I've seen a lot of these websites, and when I see Yet Another ... I always think to myself "oh this is going to suck." Reason being is that you dont really show me how you're different from the rest. Give me a good reason, solve my problem, do it better than Posterous and I'll be your user.

* Suggestions? The app seems a bit slow for me. * When I first login, I get a billion of actions, simplify it for me so that I dont have to both AutoPost on Facebook/Twitter..heck, I dont even know what autopost is. Tell me how it's awesome and why I should use it. * The form on the right where it says "Enter your full name" is bad UX. It'd be much better if it were focused right on me(perhaps on the left, underneath the "Welcome to Sprred").

Oh and congrats on launching it, it's all about itterations, take the feedback you get from people, parse it and iterate. Good luck!

hajrice··on Poll: Where abouts are you hackers from?
Originally from Bosnia, spent a large part of my life in the US, now in Bosnia for the next 8 months.
hajrice··on Double your price (and no, I'm not kidding)
Here's an example. Draft from 37signals. As soon as they launched there was noise about their pricing, after a week or so, it got quit even though sales were still going up. Not sure what they're up now with the pricing.
hajrice··on Ask HN: Books that changed your life?
The Game by Neil Strauss.
hajrice··on Ask HN: Advice for my startup - Best use of 14,000 email addresses?
In my opinion, an email newsletter would be fantastic. Jason L Baptiste recently wrote a great article on that(link: http://jasonlbaptiste.com/startups/email-newsletters-are-sti...).

You could target the gamers(focusing on the gamers that play multiplayer games) audience and have website whose target audience you're serving pay you for ads.

I remember there was a discussion on HN mentioning this topic, someone said that you could easily take 300 for a CPM for email newsletters.

Thus, if you do the math you have near 6k from newsletters.

Good luck! :)

Thanks for the feedback. The google map is zoomed in on a shark :)
hajrice··on Please review my startup - Flowshark
I'd love to talk to you more about this. Would you mind shooting me an email at hajrice@gmail.com ?
hajrice··on Please review my startup - Flowshark
It's about getting everyone on the same page about what you're building before jumping into design
hajrice··on Please review my startup - Flowshark
No problem. We'll be sending out an email to you shortly.

hajrice··on Ask HN: Running startup from exotic land of Croatia
Pozdrav iz Sarajeva, trenutno sam na Floridi. Javi mi se na moj mail(na HN profilu je)
hajrice··on Ask HN: How did you 'accidentally' make money?
God! I'd love to talk to you much about this. Please shoot me an email at hajrice@gmail.com.
hajrice··on Ask HN: Would you ever join a porn startup?
"working 1 to 2 years at an adult internet startup would give you the most insane knowledge about direct marketing, maximising conversions and the dark underbelly of affiliate marketing."

I had a job offer from one porn tube site to work as a developer. I doubt that you'd learn those skills working as a dev. That being said +1 for the info.

hajrice··on Ask HN: My company is hiring. Which job boards have the best hackers?
+1 for the app. Looks pretty cool
hajrice··on Ask HN: How to work with a designer?
Hey, I'm pretty badass. I'd like to send you a few examples of my work and way of working. You'll be impressed. Mail me at hajrice@gmail.com.

Oh and btw, you might want to add a way of having people contact you via hn; just for future reference.

hajrice··on Ask HN: How to become a millionaire in 3 years?
+1 for making me laugh.
hajrice··on Ask HN: How to travel cheaply?
Based on my experience, the cheapest way would be:

1) Airbnb for a affordable room / stay at friend's house

2) cheapflights.com

3) PACK minimalistic - http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/2007/07/11/how-to-trave...

4) Try everything you can to pay for bills(such as internet). If you're going to any US city, it shouldn't be a problem.

Oh and have fun!
