hahahahhaah··on Silver plunges 30% in worst day since 1980, gold tumbles
> Gold is now up 50 percent since August 2

SP500 with reinvestment for comparison is 72%

NVidia without reinvestment 900%

hahahahhaah··on Silver plunges 30% in worst day since 1980, gold tumbles
How do people feel about gold? To me it is purely speculative vs. index funds. If I were rich mabe have a bit of gold for the bunker next to the long life tinned gourmet meals. Better than fiat but not as good as company investments.
hahahahhaah··on Antirender: remove the glossy shine on architectural renderings
Show me reality: vibe coded AI blows up on HN and says "429" (probably... it said non 200 status code, and no F12 to check)
hahahahhaah··on Antirender: remove the glossy shine on architectural renderings
Render has 2 meanings here. Clever.
hahahahhaah··on How AI assistance impacts the formation of coding skills
3d printer: you learn something of you make CAD designs yourself and print them yes. It is a skill.
hahahahhaah··on Backseat Software
Windows is unusable. I kept a long time because of "family member will wanna use Excel" but that is not a thing anymore. Alternatives are good. Very little Windows specific software I need anymore. Really just Backblaze better pricing is all I care for.

hahahahhaah··on Grid: Free, local-first, browser-based 3D printing/CNC/laser slicer
Simple. It is not in their interest to do this. It is a lot of work, for no revenue.
hahahahhaah··on EmulatorJS
Yes, when I last played the button makes it flap and by default the bird falls.

On this game the bird stays level and pressing a button made it fall (without any up movement beforehand)

hahahahhaah··on AGENTS.md outperforms skills in our agent evals
Next.js sure makes a good benchmark for AI capability (and for clarity... this is not a compliment).
hahahahhaah··on EmulatorJS
Whats with that demo. On mobile every button just drops the bird and ends the game.
hahahahhaah··on Apple to soon take up to 30% cut from all Patreon creators in iOS app
Guess it is no different than Docker Desktop charging based on your revenue. The idea being charging based on some second order.
hahahahhaah··on Apple to soon take up to 30% cut from all Patreon creators in iOS app
Or add a 45% apple tax afyer they click buy. E.g. costs $100, price comes up as.$100 with added apple tax as line item. total $145.

Click here to avoid apple tax takes you to web page if allowed.

Importantly they also render in your source code. I love a good diagram at the top of a file.

I was like is the clock transmission only 50khz and then wow it relies on harmonics.

THIS is what you call hacking
hahahahhaah··on Doing the thing is doing the thing
I dont take the post too literally.

I take it to mean: if you can just do the thing now (you are in the right place, healthy, with tools and prerequisites) and you choose not to because of (procrastination reasons) then you could be doing the task but you choose not to.

For corps: timesheets is one of the things.

hahahahhaah··on Doing the thing is doing the thing
That is OK if that fed into a decision to do another thing now because of <good reasons>.
hahahahhaah··on Doing the thing is doing the thing
Planning to do the thing is a new thing, thing2

Doing the thing2 is doing the thing2

hahahahhaah··on Lennart Poettering, Christian Brauner founded a new company
I'll ask the dumb question sorry!

Who is this for / what problem does it solve?

I guess security? Or maybe reproducability?

hahahahhaah··on Ask HN: How much emphasis to put on unit testing and when?
It is a matter of horses for courses. Be driven by what the tests cost and what they accomplish.

Costs may be:

* Developer time to make and maintain.

* CI time means slower CI and higher costs there.

* Ossification of source code (especially unit tests, less so integration). Meaning harder to refactor as you also need to rewrite tests.

Benefits:

* Finds bugs

* Can be a handy local dev loop and local debugging loop

* Documents code and proves that documentation is correct

* Helps with AI assistance

* Integration tests should make refactoring easier or more confident.

I would err on the side of good coverage (80% excl stupid stuff) unless I have in hand a specific reasin not to.

hahahahhaah··on Ask HN: Is YC worth it anymore?
Are you "giving up a bit of equity"? I think more accurately you are pointing your front tyres towards a path of aiming for fast growth and investment. YC doesn't want 7% of a $1m arr Haskell consultancy as the endgame for your company for example. They want a shot at a 10B company. See their home page and it now gives that vibe.

So more like you are giving a large chunk of equity for a lot of investment over many years to build a unicorn, unless you fail. Which most likely you will. Based on probabilities. Fail may mean getting some $ though.
