hactually··on Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah
Is it not good that the US and Israel govt are generally doing what their people want though?

What's the point of a democracy if it acts against it's people like the UK does?

hactually··on KDE turns 30 and someone's brought an AI-native desktop proposal
Is it going to just be an Omarchy + KDE iteration? The article was very light on content but DHH is definitely driving more results and new contributions which is great for free software.
hactually··on DeepSeek v4.1 Flash Is Now Our Best Hacking Model
we recently got this running in 192gb of vRAM and using it with the Klaudia harness has been incredible for driving out work that we'd need to use Opus and Fable for previously
hactually··on Resistance Training Prescription for Muscle Function, Hypertrophy in Health
Funny enough - I spent time last year, and paid for a professional trainer who worked with celebs/elite athletes - to build an app to do what I wanted.

For a long time I had been doing greyskull LP but kept progressing and getting injured and then having to reset.

I've been following my own app now and am loving life and sharing it with friends.

Find what works for you but by all means, lift!

hactually··on The Netherlands, Spain push for EU-wide minimum age on social media
From a lens of control/social cohesion it makes sense tbf. The time kids are most malleable, you want to ensure they're thinking the "correct" way and only consume content from approved sources.

I don't envy the kids of today and how much they can't do compared to my generation

hactually··on How to bring up the Linux Kernel on a new platform
really enjoyed this - great to see modern C++ as well, we were all on Assembly and C when I had to do this on a Freescale/iMX chipset for a wireless router!

So good though taking a reference design, re-laying it out with new modules and then bringing it to life with a scope and a datasheet.

I can only imagine how much will have changed with LLMs being able to be read and have a harness to do the hard work for you!

hactually··on AI didn't erase the junior engineer's value, it increased it it
how do you mean? surely you're paid for delivering product not coding? if it is the latter, I too would love to be paid for recreational coding
hactually··on Why does everyone hate data centers?
it's a very good psyop by non western aligned government actors.

Convincing people that it slurps up infinite water and contains the world's stolen information like some bad National Treasure script is genius.

The android ecosystem is pretty useful...
hactually··on AI software that generates 'rage bait' developed by Germany's far-right AfD
The populist left are happy to use video too. All UK and Australian politicians are on Twitter and Tiktok and numerous podcasts that then get soundbite sliced.
hactually··on The KIDS Act would require age checks to get online
kinda. but not really. they just showed a lack of effectiveness and has emboldened other countries to further restrict things like VPNs and roll out ID based net access
hactually··on VPN ban update for UK households as government looks at 'age-gate'
The UK government have at least made it clear that they intend to ban right wing media and parties that aren't aligned.

A leaked strategy document from UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's chief of staff, Morgan McSweeney, outlined their "Kill Musk's Twitter" to diminish the platform through advertiser pressure and regulatory action

hactually··on VPN ban update for UK households as government looks at 'age-gate'
Got any numbers/sources for that specific claim?
hactually··on The UK's new under-16 social media ban will cause more harm than it prevents
So just DNS block them in the UK. They don't need YouTube

hactually··on London Police Deploy Facial Recognition at Protest for First Time
Must be some heinous crimes to enable dragnet surveillance. That or the rotten state of Britain really is trying anything from splitting at the seams.

Must be the heinous crime thing tho.

hactually··on Framework's new Linux laptop is selling faster than its Windows one
Incredible news. I've ordered one myself... wish the 16 Pro was out but I figure it makes sense to support companies doing the things you want.

The last thread on framework was disappointing in how many said "oh, if it just had X I'd totally buy it" who probably all use Mac's with it's basic configuration.

hactually··on High-Level Rust: Getting 80% of the Benefits with 20% of the Pain
The go tooling and ecosystem and how it "just works" runs rings around the Java clowncar.
hactually··on X Randomly Banning Users for "Inauthentic Behavior"
The classic "if it disagrees with me, it's a far-right neo-Nazi" rhetoric. Sadly thiss is becoming depressingly common in certain corners of tech discourse.

X has the best AI news, the best virality for good content and sure - it has a lot of shit, but community notes and curated feeds keep the noise low.

hactually··on Ask HN: Why isn't using AI in production considered stupid?
You're not really making a good point if you can't distinguish.

Fin.ai by telecom is a full product powered by LLMs and makes $100m ARR.

Make your point and save the attacks and maybe you can be helped.
