hackandtrip··on How to pass a programming interview (2016)
GitHub can't be used in Graduate interview efficiently, and those one could be probably the most problematic. If a candidate has work experience, you can at least assess that he can do something
hackandtrip··on Real-time Continuous Transcription with Live Transcribe
It's already there, but the different sentence creation + difficult in understanding moves that can vary a lot makes it not viable now.
hackandtrip··on Did Finland’s basic income experiment work? [video]
Italy is doing something similar - everyone with low income can apply to receive "citizienship" income, something like 800EU a month.

There are strict rules to avoid fraud (that probably won't work, will explain why): the State will give everyone that applied an offer for a private job in different time spans and different distance - you can only avoid one time. Main problem is - there are no jobs that will pay more than that income, and people will try to avoid and keep the income for at least a year.

Surely, in my humble opinion, this is the way to go - together with stricter regulations on non-specialized work, where enslavement is going towards foreign population in EU countries.

hackandtrip··on Are We in the Middle of a Programming Bubble?
Your argument is based on AGI, something we have no idea if will ever happen, and most likely nearly as close as you think.
hackandtrip··on WhatsApp has an encrypted child porn problem
Other than closing the Internet as someone suggests, wouldn't be possible to integrate the service that Microsoft offers to detect this material? Other apps like telegram, not e2e, could be integrated more easily, but personally I wouldn't mind such system being native on Android or IOS - allowing to make life much more difficult for pedos.
hackandtrip··on Viral hepatitis: A silent epidemic killing more people than HIV, malaria or TB
Young child affected by leuchemia can't go to school nowadays in Italy, because they risk being infected by anti-vaxxers'child and risk their life
hackandtrip··on Bitcoin falls below $5,000
Iota is unusable from (almost) the very first day it got out, they are just scheduling and rescheduling the removal of central coordinators, making that in no way different from a central authority authorizing payment, they cashed and they disappeared basically

Stellar is trying to achieve a completely different goal than exchanging stellars coins.

Almost no one of those crypto could achieve even half of the current daily transaction processed by CC, and the proof they are using is in no way as safe as proof of work, even if more efficient. Why would people adopt them? There's no advantages, fees would be similar probably

hackandtrip··on Show HN: A JavaScript Handbook
Why??
hackandtrip··on Ask HN: What excites you most about Neuromorphic Hardware?
In a sense, aren't we trying to take inspiration from a model evolved in many million years? We are trying to build an airplane taking inspiration from a bird. Also, emulating the way brain work can be seen as one of the many paths towards AGI, can't it? Even if, AGI speaking, to my understanding the computation speed is not the problem.
hackandtrip··on Heathrow Airport fined £120K for serious failings in data protection practices
That's usually the approach taken when you let people vote on non-standard devices that: 1. Will be reused after 2. Do not have any additional protection other than simple android updates, not connected through internet though. But in that case I'd say the problem would be in the phase of delivering those devices, and after, when the results will be printed on a file on an USB that will be moved to other places. This process happened in Italy around one years ago for a referendum vote.
hackandtrip··on Introduction to Differential Equations (2008)
One of my professor used to say that you can do derivatives of every functions, it's mechanical, but you will only be able to find exact solution of an infinitesimal fraction of diffeq, and thinking about that, the same apply with integrals.
hackandtrip··on DEF CON report on vulnerabilities in US election infrastructure [pdf]
Sure, but you lose vote secrecy.
hackandtrip··on WhatsApp Cofounder Brian Acton on Why He Left $850M Behind
Unmonetizable and "super normal profits" for a 19B product can be really close in the scale used by business people
hackandtrip··on Architecture of Nautilus, the new Dropbox search engine
What alternative have Linux users to Dropbox, to using their own server? (That is, for a number of reasons for most people, suboptimal)? You cant really use OneDrive365, and Dropbox offers vast support to Linux, is easy to set and can be used for free too. Is there a reason why Linux users wouldn't use it? Asking for curiosity.
hackandtrip··on Ask HN: What are some of the best documentaries you've seen?
Agree, but to be honest it seems to me really weird that such type of evolvement etc wouldn't be pre-discussed. Also, about that amazing documentary: -I find it annoying that the involvement of other nations isn't dragged in more, leaving it all on Russia making it a little political oriented. -Its interesting how little is the dosage of testosterone taken by that guy, and that other molecules are not used + I don't really remember if they discussed about a PCT (you cant just take test and hope that your natural levels will re-establish again, it's like flipping a coin, specially considering how little research there is on those molecules).
hackandtrip··on WhatsApp Cofounder Brian Acton on Why He Left $850M Behind
That would have stopped working in a few years: nowadays lot of different people stopped using WhatsApp almost entirely using Facebook Messanger / Telegram / etc. 1$/year is just too low-proft and too risky
hackandtrip··on European Parliament votes for Article 13
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=17967366 this I think
hackandtrip··on EU approves internet copyright law, including ‘link tax’ and ‘upload filter’
I'm European but as many don't have a clear idea of how this will work.

At my understanding, there will be discussions about the amendments and another vote, like the one we had two months ago. Is it right? There is still time to act, right?

Also, is there a place to see who voted what? Elections are close and those choices could impact the vote of many. I knew Votewatch but I don't know if it still doing it, saw some excel file going around last time and wondering if they are being updated, to see who changed ideas.

hackandtrip··on Twitter bans Alex Jones and Infowars for abusive behaviour
This gets me even more worried about the people that still follow him.

How can you say the words he said to that journalist and still have that big following? We have a huge information, media and education problem all over the globe, because similar things are happening in EU. Twitter just did the right thing, shutting one of the channel he had to insult, humiliate and contaminate brains of people with fake news.

hackandtrip··on Introduction to Calculus with Derivatives
I'm from Italy and it's the same here, but the problem remains: it seems that a big part of population (devs are not excluded) have problems and hate relationship with math.
hackandtrip··on Lenovo’s new Yoga Book replaces the keyboard with an E Ink screen
I'd buy something similar to YotaPhone, but: - Updates - Active mod community, when updates stop (this happens too soon nowadays and Yota is an example) - Bigger screen, something close to 6 inch.

I'd buy it because I would find it perfect for reading, and I just love the feel, but guess it really depends.

hackandtrip··on Lenovo’s new Yoga Book replaces the keyboard with an E Ink screen
E-ink displays are awesome and Lenovo never stops innovating. I am bit skeptical about the keyboard feel though. I really hope that they will take in consideration a double screen for phones too, something like the YotaPhone.
hackandtrip··on Ask HN: Is There a Hacker News Equivalent for Politics?
There are really low-noise and well monitored sub on reddit, where the scope of their information is limited. An example, to talk and share news about Syrian situation, https://www.reddit.com/r/syriancivilwar is an amazing neutral space.
hackandtrip··on Ask HN: Best books or online courses to learn networking?
I skimmed through it and I like the approach. I had, as an undergrad, a course on the theory of networking, summing up the OSI Layer, but practical experimentations could really help understanding more.
hackandtrip··on NYU Makes Tuition Free for All Medical Students
I can say that in Latin countries, like Italy, where basic Latin knowledge is common, we use "Alumni" talking about one male/female anyway.

Same grammar confusion happens with "curriculum" (single) or "curricula" (multiple).

hackandtrip··on NYU Makes Tuition Free for All Medical Students
Completely different situation, but something like that is discussed in Italy too, where the majority and most prestigious university happen to be public: why should we make the tuition free for everyone, specially when it's so low here, refusing the moneys of more riches people that pay more?

The natural solution is invest more in scholarships, at least here. I'm sure that the situation in US is fully different though.

hackandtrip··on Twitter Suspends Alex Jones for Seven Days Over Tweet
I think the problem is technical and not moral. Alex Jones threatened lifes, and the banhammer is easy to give to one single user. What about new user that are doing so many accounts a hour with different (guess private) proxy, etc?

I hope that twitter is addressing that problem with stronger anti-spam measure, but it doesn't really relate to Infowars.

hackandtrip··on Tinder founders sue parent companies Match and IAC for at least $2B
To give people different choices of platforms, in a sense, like Luxottica with glasses.
hackandtrip··on Ask HN: How can I prepare for a coding interview in a week?
OT question: what do you do in the meantime? Usually, those months prepping for interviews are: - if a graduating student, while you are graduating? - grabbing a "worse" job waiting for the interview?
