Exactly my concern as well
ha1zum··on We rewrote the Ghostty GTK application
This could be a valid bug that you can report
ha1zum··on HTML-in-Canvas
> you can already have HTML in SVG in HTML in SVG

It's kind of different because SVG and HTML are both XML-like text-based format, doesn't feel that wrong to mix them together. Unlike with canvas..

ha1zum··on HTML-in-Canvas
This could have a great utility, but for me HTML in canvas in HTML feels so cursed.

To make it make sense in my opinion canvas should already be a first class format for web browsers, so it doesn't have to be inside a HTML.

Then we would have a choice of HTML-first page with canvas elements in it, or a canvas-first page with HTML elements in it.

But what do I know.

ha1zum··on Blue95: a desktop for your childhood home's computer room
Fedora is a modern Linux desktop distribution with active development and support for modern softwares. While using an old OS such as Windows XP is a huge security risk, with very minimal possibilities of running modern softwares. Even major browsers like Firefox and Chrome won't run on XP anymore.
ha1zum··on Ask HN: What is your go-to stack for the web?
express, pm2, postgres, jquery
ha1zum··on Ask HN: What lesser-known accessories do you use with your computer?
I'm with you. Mine is not particularly big either, just a common 27" 4k monitor but it's already a game changer for me because I used to only use 14" or 19" 1080p, it's night and day.
ha1zum··on TinyVG – an alternative binary encoded vector graphics format
I wish the website briefly list the features that exist in the SVG format but doesn't exist in theirs, so I could see exactly what I'm missing. It could remove a lot of doubt to dip my toe if it turns out that I really don't need the missing features.

Oh come on
ha1zum··on Ask HN: What's the next evolution of the GUI OS?
I don't go back and forth between windows, I open them all fully across multiple monitors. The next evolution is right there: "unlimited" monitors using VR. But VR headsets are just not that comfortable yet. Maybe in a few years it will be more comfortable to use a VR based solution than sitting in front of 3 high end monitors
ha1zum··on Ask HN: Easing wife onto Linux laptop How to?
I would recommend to first introduce her to softwares that available both on Windows and Linux, such as Only Office, GIMP, Chromium, VLC, and let her use it on Windows for awhile. After that, give her Linux Mint or Zorin OS and install the same softwares there, those 2 OSes have a very similar layout with Windows and very popular.
ha1zum··on Ask HN: What is your default font for coding and terminal?
D2Coding by Naver, it's a narrow font but not looking crazy like other narrow fonts
ha1zum··on Lapce – Fast open-source code editor
Since it's in an early stage, would be neat if there's list of features that this project wants build and which ones of them are already done. It would help to manage users' expectation when they try this out and perhaps even invite people who have been-there-done-that to help you achieve the remaining goals.
ha1zum··on Ask HN: What will stay the same in the next 50 years?
I would simplify the problem as choosing between a boring but proven approach to things and a more innovative and exciting one that has a bit more risk. Like most things in life, I would try to balance it. Because I don't have the kind of stress resistance and energy that's required to go 100% on the more risky stuff all the time, but at the same time living 100% on the other side could be unbearably boring after some time.

At my day job I work as a Java+Angular developer on an enterprise software, but if there's a chance to do a small freelance gig on the side, or my personal projects, I'd take it as an opportunity to try out the "hip" stuff just to learn what's good about it and if I like it or not (most recently Nuxt.js).

Also the older, more stable tech are still getting cool updates too but at a much more slower rate, and very often adopted from the newer languages/frameworks. So if I've played with the newer stuff too, I would know what the update is about and have a much easier time getting used to it.

ha1zum··on Poll: Switching from WhatsApp
Indonesia is almost like that as well. Whatsapp has replaced SMS almost everywhere.
ha1zum··on Are any JavaScript developers excited for Blazor?
If anyone would be interested it would be c# dotnet developers

ha1zum··on Google Container for Firefox – Prevent Google from tracking you around the web
If I keep my whole Google (https://myactivity.google.com) and Youtube history completely empty but still logged in to Google account everyday (gmail and youtube on Firefox), are they still tracking me around the web?
