h8hawk··on GLM-5.3: Frontier coding with emergent cyber capabilities
This is just wrong. Standard textbooks like "Bioprocess Engineering Principles" [1] already contain step by step industrial engineering protocols and formulas. LLMs only summarize what print literature has documented for decades. The real bottleneck has always been hands on physical execution, not access to text. (This is not the case with actual models trained on biological data, which are not LLMs)

> amoral LLM

Are you a Lesswrong member? What makes Anthropic moral when their priority is automating people out of jobs instead of developing better medicine or advancing healthcare?

Are you against open-source models?

Data and content related to "biological weapons" already exist on the internet, in books, etc. The real issue is access to facilities and tools. There are models that help researchers, but they are not LLMs, rather they are models trained specifically on biological data (like AlphaFold).

Cybersecurity is basically used like a dog whistle pioneered by Anthropic to achieve regulatory capture. Otherwise, the widespread availability of good tooling for security analysis would eliminate more of these cyber threats, rather than gatekeeping them for a few private companies.

They have already released their models (GLM 5.2 and K3). This is why Amodei and the rest of the effective altruist lobbies are trying to pressure the US government to both ban open-source models and pressure China to do the same.

I’m curious to see why you’re so eager to ban open-source LLMs while being okay with Anthropic’s control. Do you think they’ll rebel against you?

I found Mimo 2.5 Pro to be the right balance between cost and intelligence. It costs the same as DeepSeek v4 Pro, but it's better overall by a small margin.

They are likely Effective Altruists highly attuned to AGI (With current LLM's) risks, fearing an LLM uprising and human extinction, which they regard as the world's most critical challenge.

It's sad that he is the only one speaking out about Hinton. This whole Hinton glorification seems like it's being pushed by an agenda. I'm not sure if he would receive this much attention if he held a different view (closer to LeCun or Ng), rather than these Effective Altruism takes on current AI.
h8hawk··on Munich 1991: The Roots of the Current AI Boom
Hinton did not invent backpropagation.

related paragraph from Wikipedia:

Modern backpropagation was first published by Seppo Linnainmaa as "reverse mode of automatic differentiation" (1970)[26] for discrete connected networks of nested differentiable functions.[27][28][29]

In 1982, Paul Werbos applied backpropagation to MLPs in the way that has become standard.

h8hawk··on Why Japanese companies do so many different things
From what I’ve seen, the opposite is often true. Western leftist mainstream media frequently portrays Japan as a racist and declining society.

Meanwhile, on platforms like YouTube and communities such as Hacker News, the bias is even much stronger. China, along with the broader “Axis of Resistance” and third worldist camp (though China arguably doesn’t fully belong there), is often praised, while the West, including Japan, receives disproportionate criticism.

> Iran doesn't torture its citizens

Wow, I can't believe someone would say this. In January, they basically killed tens of thousands of us with machine guns. After the war, the first thing they did was cut off the internet to prevent an internal uprising. They deployed many Basij checkpoints with machine guns just to warn Iranians. This is a sample scene, don't you consider it torture?

h8hawk··on Richard Sutton and Andrew Barto Win 2024 Turing Award
By "view that humanity," do you mean alignment with the effective altruism cult?

Repressive laws on open AI/models—giving elites total control in the name of safety?

And this alternative perspective from the cult should disqualify someone from a Turing Award despite their achievements?

Hinton is not the "father of modern AI." This overlooks the contributions of many others.
