Why not review the code yourself?
h0h0h0··on Launch HN: Hatchet (YC W24) – Open-source task queue, now with a cloud version
I was going to reach for dagster to run some DBT and data load scripts. No orchestration as of yet-why would I use hatchet instead of dagster?
h0h0h0··on Ask HN: What is your favorite internet rabbit hole?
me: i need to get some sewing done.

also me: opens this link and loses 2 hours.

h0h0h0··on Launch HN: Bottomless (YC W19) – Coffee Restocked with a Smart Scale
Cool technology concept! Amazon will buy you for sure.

However

"Bottomless was born out of our frustration managing our household stock levels. We always seemed to be running out of one thing or another."

is infomercial level actor marketing.

h0h0h0··on Stephen King's Advice to Software Developers
Uhh? This is advice to writers, adapted for software developers.
h0h0h0··on Phrack Magazine (1985-2016)
Read this all the time as a kid. This was the best. Thanks for making my life in the middle of nowhere infinitely more interesting. You showed me what technology really was.
h0h0h0··on Ask HN: Tips on hiring a “life manager” or coach to be productive?
You really really need to do one thing only. This list is way overwhelming. No wonder you're actively avoiding your work. Looking for a life and productivity coach maybe will make you accountable to someone, but i have a suspicion it's another clever way to avoid actually working.

Seriously. Trim that todo list. That's insane.

h0h0h0··on Ask HN: What scripts/cronjobs you have made that made your life generally easier
Finally - a script that also includes a positive life impact!
h0h0h0··on Ask HN: What's your catch-all note taker?
Sublime Text for sure.

I used to use Apple Notes and still have years of stuff on there. Before that it was Evernote. And before that it was text files somewhere.

I came back to text files just because of the lack of formatting. It forces a primitiveness on the idea that ensures that it doesn't become distracting.

A lot of people in the WIP community are starting to use Notion. Haven't looked at it yet.

h0h0h0··on Ask HN: Best email client for a Mac?
yes. It's your email. If you're in the market for improving how you interface with one of your number one communication mechanisms, you'll probably look at investing a tiny amount of money into it.
h0h0h0··on Ask HN: Employer 'Outside work' agreements
Thanks this is a perfect starting point.
h0h0h0··on Update on Julie Horvath's Departure
They will have to move to a MDMA/THC based culture fused with early 90's pop + Mid 2000's minimal techno. This is a small step for a dubstep IPA culture. It's like moving from the Midwest to NYC.
h0h0h0··on The Unix Philosophy and a Fear of Pixels
I think what the author is missing is that the command line offers the programmer a world into writing code that doesn't require humans to use. Another way of saying it is that there is a whole class of programs out there that you really DONT want to have a HCI (human Interface) for.

Do i really need all of that tooling when one simple line in my cron will suffice? Do I really need a huge text editor in order to find and replace words when one sed line will do?

It's a class and style of programming that forces us to be efficient so we can get onto other things.

h0h0h0··on How did I get 38 willing-to-pay customers before writing code?
Very well written and clear. I just started to put what you learned into practice :)

h0h0h0··on Show HN: my first ever coding project (7bks.com)
Hey Congratulations for launching Tom!

Did you want feedback on coding as well? If so I can pass some info along.

Other than that i like the layout and the visual of the site. it's simple and makes a ton of sense at quick glance.

h0h0h0··on Meditation boosts part of brain where ADD, addictions reside
When I began to work on overcoming my addictions, I never gained any traction on it until I made meditation a part of my routine. I don't know anything about the scientific aspect of it but I noticed that I was more patient with things, able to suffer/sit through things and sit with myself a lot more. I think the sense of self-comfort that came from meditation was the most important thing. not the sense of comfort, but being comfortable with myself.
h0h0h0··on Fabulous: Python library for printing images and fancy text to the terminal
Lobstertech: I couldn't help but be reminded of the fancy things we did with ANSI graphics in the BBS days. Merging the gif/jpg to ansi converter was very clever. This could make for some interesting terminal programs.
h0h0h0··on The Bowling Pin strategy
Thanks for this excellent summary of the book. I'm involved in product development for a company and was taking some of the management claims on face value without really understanding "how" the product is going to sell!!! Shame on me!
h0h0h0··on The Start-up from Hell
I don't understand how Jacques survived the 12 hour days for weeks on end? I go pretty stir-crazy when I work a 60 hour week and it's why I haven't started a startup. I'm not sure I would have it in me. Kudos.

I'm also wondering why he stuck around so long. To me the writing was on the wall that it wasn't going to work!

h0h0h0··on The classic Unix horror story
I don't agree with the following comment:

"Great programmers spend very little of their time writing code – at least code that ends up in the final product. Programmers who spend much of their time writing code are too lazy, too ignorant, or too arrogant to find existing solutions to old problems. "

I mean so... who's writing the code then? Who's writing the original code? I would call a clever programmer a great programmer. Just clever. and sometimes clever can get you into trouble. But just sometimes :)

h0h0h0··on Review my new site, EndAnts.com, please. It's supposed to make you happier.
Hey Zack,

Thanks for putting something like this together. I found it very helpful in dealing with some of my own unpleasant thoughts and incorrect self beliefes.

Here are some corrections that you can make to improve the site.

1. Style it a little nicer. Just throw on a coat of CSS and you'll be looking good. 2. give me a way to save out of the steps. 3. The rankings seem off. it was telling me i'd be ranked 1709 out of 1928 when i completed it but when I finished it I was only ranked 19 out of 19.

h0h0h0··on Why Enterprise Software Sucks
Clifyt is the first comment on that article and I think he's got the right take. Honestly there is a reason at times for what might feel like a bad usability decision. I also didn't like the fact that enterprise software usability decisions are paralleled with filing an expense report.

Seriously - it's NEVER a pleasure to do that.
