guilamu··on Intel launches Core Ultra processors
You need to watch the dave2d video again he says the exast opposite of what you are saying here.

Ultra is just catching up with amd 7000 and idle consumption is bad compared to m3.

Thanks for the tip, I'll look into it.
guilamu··on Ask HN: Now that Backupsheep died, how do you do backup a Linux server?
Hello Simon, thanks for your reply, I'll look into SnapShooter. Is there any way I can contact you directly?
guilamu··on Ask HN: Now that Backupsheep died, how do you do backup a Linux server?
Thanks, I'll look into Snapshooter.

I mostly agree with your comment but "he shutdown Starlink in Ukraine" is misinfo? Musk literally say he did it. How is that misinfo? https://amp.theguardian.com/technology/2023/sep/07/elon-musk...
guilamu··on SumatraPDF Reader
Maybe it's just me, but they all happen to have issues when printing. No idea why or if it has been fixed recently, but I never had this kind of issue with Sumatra or Acrobat obviously.
guilamu··on FreeTube – The Private YouTube Client
There was not, at least not on my phone (s10e/s23). I've been using it for years without interruption.
guilamu··on FreeTube – The Private YouTube Client
Freetube has been around for years and has been working pretty much perfectly since day one.

guilamu··on Unshackle: A tool to bypass Windows and Linux password logins
Indeed, good point.
guilamu··on Google tests A.I. tool that is able to write news articles
'What is necessary (and severely lacking) is two-way communication. Enabling OSINT. Enabling people to form well-founded opinions. To discuss and receive constructive criticism of their views and ideas. Facilitating self-reflection on a society-level. '

Can't agree more, but how? Any insight?

guilamu··on Unshackle: A tool to bypass Windows and Linux password logins
You can do that easily today with medicat (and ventoy).
guilamu··on French Gov Wants to Inject Domain Blocking Lists Directly into Web Browsers
"The only problem would be if this law gets more edits and starts including other types of infractions "

This. Has we've seen so many times, this is a slipery slope and bad things will happen.

Just these last few months, the gov is using antiterrorist laws to monitor / follow and jail environmental activist.

guilamu··on Has FSD Beta 11.4.3 Conquered Downtown Ann Arbor?
I know the HN crowd is, to put it mildly, not convinced by Tesla's FSD.

IMHO, there's a lot of valid criticism about it.

First the misleading name, it's obviously not fully self-driving... yet.

Some people also seem to be persuaded that Tesla's making an error using vision only (even if the latest Hardware 4 has some kind of radar, it doesn't seem to be used for now) and they might be right.

Anyhow, after seeing this video (and following Dirty Tesla's channel for 2 years) I kinda think FSD is on the right path (pun intended). I mean, 40 mins of relatively complex situations without any interventions from the driver, that's good, right?

People who think FSD is horribly bad, can you point me to a video of any other self-driving car doing better than this?

guilamu··on Twitter's Algorithm: Amplifying Anger, Animosity, and Affective Polarization
You can disable all recommandations with "Control Panel For Twitter". IMHO, a life saver.

guilamu··on Ask Wirecutter: Can you recommend a not-smart TV for me?
I don't know, man.

I've got a brand new 48 inch LG oled smart TV. Never connected it to internet.

I hook-up a shield TV on it.

Boot time is 5 seconds and goes directly to the shield TV.

I have no idea what the actual tv os looks like.

Never had a single issue, it just act as a dumb monitor would.

guilamu··on The day Windows died
There most certainly won't be any ads in the LTSC version of Windows 11 (coming this year... probably).
guilamu··on AMD releases a new flagship CPU for consumer market with 128M of L3 Cache
5800x3D has a single CCD so no need to choose which CCD to use.

The interesting one will be the 7800X3D.

guilamu··on Tell HN: Impact of using 1 or 2 sticks of DDR5 on a 6800HX with 680M IG
Thermals are what you choose them to be, pretty much. The whole thing is capped at 80°C. It will throttle after that.

In the bios you can select the CPU wattage from 28 to 58 I think (I won't be at work for the next two weeks so I can't say for sure). So If you select 28 watts you'll never hit the temperature limit, if you select 58, you will for sure.

Considering the power I'm getting out of it, I think the liquid metal was properly applied, but I can't know for sure without taking it appart.

guilamu··on Tell HN: Impact of using 1 or 2 sticks of DDR5 on a 6800HX with 680M IG
I get it. So you're saying my car was missing half of the spark plugs, right?
guilamu··on Tell HN: Impact of using 1 or 2 sticks of DDR5 on a 6800HX with 680M IG
Yeah, no, the UM690 BIOS is pretty basic.

4800 is the slowest possible clock speed for DDR5.

You can "overclock" RAM in the BIOS but just by changing 4800 to anything up to 6000. You can't setup timings or voltage so this is pretty useless imho (I tried 5000/5200/5400 all resulting in instability after a while).

guilamu··on Tell HN: Impact of using 1 or 2 sticks of DDR5 on a 6800HX with 680M IG
It's working fine right now. If you have any pre-buy questions, shoot.
guilamu··on Tell HN: Impact of using 1 or 2 sticks of DDR5 on a 6800HX with 680M IG
All right, my bad.
guilamu··on Tell HN: Impact of using 1 or 2 sticks of DDR5 on a 6800HX with 680M IG
Yes, I do, and as I said in another reply: I just added another 16 GB RAM (32 GB total), but the UNIGINE testing I'm doing here is using 1.5GB of VRAM and basically no RAM at all, the results would be the same with 2x8GB or 2x32GB (but I see your point, it's not very "scientific" to replace 16GB by 32GB).
guilamu··on Tell HN: Impact of using 1 or 2 sticks of DDR5 on a 6800HX with 680M IG
Thanks for clarifying that, this is some very technical knowledge I did not had!
