gshakir··on iPhone Duo
Is it thicker than iPhone pro when folded?

I want it more thinner!!

gshakir··on Nearly the hottest place on Earth, India swelters under intense heat wave
Nope. The hot weather is off the news cycle and the top news is political. https://www.ndtv.com/
gshakir··on Ask HN: Bank with Yubikey support?
Bank of America offers it. It works great, but it works only on desktop not on IOS app.
gshakir··on Should we be eating three meals a day?
For me, fasting in Ramadan has reduced my eating frequency and I noticed that every year during this time my resting heart rate drops significantly. It kinda tells how much your heart works on your digestion.
gshakir··on Neovim 0.7 Released
I moved to Neovim from Vim based on the recommendation from my 16 year old :). He also suggested https://nvchad.github.io . NvChad was great in setting up the Neovim configuration with LSP for Ruby and others. Much better experience than Vim.

Thanks, I will relay this to the team.
gshakir··on Stripe Identity
Any connection to NIST 800-63-3 (Digital identity guidelines) ? Does it provide Identity assurance level 2 ?
gshakir··on India's holiest river Ganges is swollen with Covid victims
Why is this flagged? This news has been covered extensively before this BBC article. One of the downstream states had put a net to prevent those victims washing up to their shores. Looks like there is an effort to silence this news.

gshakir··on iOS 14.5 delivers Unlock iPhone with Apple Watch, new privacy controls, and more
I have a Samsung Galaxy as work phone and it has a fingerprint sensor unlock in addition to FaceID. Would love that in Apple iPhone due to masks becoming so prevalent.
gshakir··on AWS EC2 Having Issues
Interestingly I couldn’t submit this URL to HN because it would take me to an original story that was posted 6 months ago. So I had to put it a random query string at the end of the URL like this

https://status.aws.amazon.com/?x=1000

@Dang, any way HN can allow new submissions to the same URL? Thank you .

gshakir··on Robinhood now has a 1-Star rating on the Google Play Store
Already did
gshakir··on Robinhood now has a 1-Star rating on the Google Play Store
It has five stars on Apple store, that’s quite a difference
gshakir··on New 13-inch MacBook Pro
The page says there is a dedicated esc key on the newly designed keyboard
gshakir··on When To Chat: Reconcile Time Zone Differences
There is one crucial feature missing. There should be an option for “multiple” other locations. Since we are all practicing social distancing, I have scheduled a call with 5-10 of my friends over the weekend and they are spread over 5 different time zones and countries. We ultimately found one time that works for all of us using iOS world clock.
gshakir··on My company sold for $100M and I got zilch – how can that be?
My former company got acquired for $150 million after raising $87 million. I am not expecting anything. If at all I can expect a tax write off for the shares that I bought
gshakir··on AWS Elasticsearch: a fundamentally-flawed offering
Given the lawsuit that is going between Elastic and AWS in the background, can someone confirm if shared rebalancing is a flaw in AWS offering?
gshakir··on The McKenzie Method can help you say goodbye to back and neck pain
Look up “wall angel” (similar to snow angel) and “hallelujah “ (where you sit on a mid high back rest chair and drop your hands over your head)
gshakir··on Apple iOS 13.1 Personal automation via Shortcuts
I wrote a shortcut that posts to HN from a Safari page !!

gshakir··on Apple iOS 13.1 Personal automation via Shortcuts
I think battery usage could be a primary concern here. Yes, this should continue to improve. Imagine coming home and all your blinds open automatically, lights turn on etc.
gshakir··on Apple’s Watch Is Smarter, but My Casio Keeps Getting the Job Done
I too love the Apple Watch and the AirPods combination. Seems like the iPhone is becoming the computer and the watch is the new smart phone.
gshakir··on Apple’s Watch Is Smarter, but My Casio Keeps Getting the Job Done
I don’t know what is the point here in comparing to a regular watch. Does the Casio allow one to leave the phone behind and pick up a call on watch and AirPods ? Does it slightly nudge if you have sitting too long in an hour?

Clearly Apple Watch is meant more for that.

gshakir··on Amazon Warns Customers: Those Supplements Might Be Fake
Amazon has a big counterfeit problem. The reviews are entirely gamed, so can’t trust those any more , even the 2-star or 3-star ones.

So I recently dropped Amazon prime and ended up buying popular name brands. Even those you can get price matched with other retailers and Target even gives you 5% percent discount and BestBuy gives you points.

Unless you are a person who is not mobile, there are several options now.

gshakir··on What Happens to Spelling Bee Champions When They Grow Old?
Thank you for this. I finally found a name for the condition where my son remembers life events so vividly, which is called “Hyperthymestic” syndrome. Any one else out there with this condition?
gshakir··on The Durian King
Thank you. I had to look up “NG MY” conference, so, no not coming for Angular conference.
gshakir··on The Durian King
I might visit KL soon, which place would you recommend to try out eating Durian? And which place to get it to bring it back home? I am hoping they take care of packing etc.
gshakir··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (June 2019)
