grzes··on Shopify acquires Tailwind
dude, have you heard about single file components where you have HTML & CSS in one place? XD
grzes··on Shopify acquires Tailwind
tailwindcss is an anti-pattern that breaks fundamental rule of software engeneering - separation of concerns. just learn how to use CSS - it will benefit you in the long run. i suspect they will be "paywalling" more and more features in the future.
grzes··on Cursor removed cost information from the usage page and CSV export
cursor is a scam. they pissed me with their UI changes & shady pricing, so i tried claude code recently for the first time and instantly regreted i havent tried earlier
grzes··on Show HN: Clawk – Give coding agents a disposable Linux VM, not your laptop
i was quite shocked to learn that cursor is not scoped to current workspace, recently it just traversed my projects dir outside my current workspace and looked for patterns in code.
grzes··on Moving away from Tailwind, and learning to structure my CSS
tailwind is an anti-pattern that breaks separation of concerns rule. i'm amazed how it became so popular.
grzes··on Migrating from DigitalOcean to Hetzner
is a pity that Hetzner does not have monitoring agent like DO. in DO you can set alerts and view all metrics. its this one thing that keeps me from migrating because i dont want to install custom monitoring solutions.
grzes··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (April 2026)
Next iteration of JellyOcean https://jellyocean.com - A free service that lets you create Jellyfin servers in the cloud.
grzes··on Should QA exist?
should cats drink milk?
grzes··on Show HN: I took back Video.js after 16 years and we rewrote it to be 88% smaller
can anyone recommend me good, battle-tested "slider" solution for playing videos as well as displaying images from single gallery? ideally capable of handling huge galleries (hundreds of items) with lazy loading
grzes··on Cloud VM benchmarks 2026
the only thing that keeps me from migrating from DO to Hetzner is the lack of monitoring agent on the latter. its really nice to set up some hdd & cpu alerts from within cloud provider control panel directly.
grzes··on I tried every todo app and ended up with a .txt file
just use google tasks? hello? it has notification and calendar integration
grzes··on Video streaming at scale with Kubernetes and RabbitMQ
"fancy asset catalog management system" - was thinking about building such solution lately - do you know any open-source solutions of this kind?
grzes··on Whisper.api: Open-source, self-hosted speech-to-text with fast transcription
i dont understand the excitement here. it's just a HTTP wrapper for CLI command. you can build it easily on your own with any decent RAD framework
grzes··on The electric vehicles we need now are e-bikes (2022)
i think there should be bike-highways connecting larger cities in given country so you could travel larger distances using smooth tarmac like cars do
grzes··on Ask HN: What are 100K dollar ideas but not million dollar ideas?
what about this: https://www.qmatic.com/solutions/virtual-queuing-system ? isnt this idea implemented already by various entities?
grzes··on Is this the end of crypto?
i would say that it is just begining
grzes··on From Plex to Jellyfin Media Server
im pretty happy with jellyfin. shame it cannot load external subtitles when playing movies on my Samsung TV via DLNA :(
grzes··on What if regular exercise is the best cognitive exercise?
i have exactly the same feelings/experiences. i started to ride a bike when pandemic begun and it really improved my comfort of living and ovearll "mental" attitude. its really not about fitness but more like a therapy for a brain to reset. its best to ridea in areas where you can be close to the nature as the presence of nature also contributes
grzes··on Your Organization should run its own Mastodon server
why is hacker-news flooded lately with mastodon-related content? it's irritating
grzes··on Ask HN: Have you set up a procedure to disclose your passwords in case of death?
i have.

basically i created separate KeePass database and put all things i want to disclose there (like banks passwords, mobile unlock pattern etc.). what's nice about keepass is that you can store media files like images besides passwords.

this database is in Google Drive and shared with my relative. the password to the database is printed on paper and stored in the envelope - any my relative knows where to search for this envelope in case something happens.

grzes··on Ask HN: What to do to be healthy when old?
i started riding a bike on a regular basis. also i lift some mediocre weights once a week. never felt better.
grzes··on Aerodynamics of Gravel Bikes
wondering if i should switch handlebars to narrower one. so currently i have 56 frame with 42 handlebars - thats "factory" setup. i noticed that also 54 frame has this handlebars, only 52 size frame comes with 40. anyone has any experiences how it will affect bike handling? i noticed that there is a trend rising to go with narrower handlebars on gravel bikes
grzes··on Show HN: I may have created a new type of puzzle
only one level? c'mon this is great!
grzes··on Folding bicycle small enough to fit in hand luggage
so i bought a folding bike from decathlon about 1.5yr ago and never been happier since. its following model:

https://www.decathlon.fr/p/velo-pliant-oxylane-120/_/R-p-120...

they actually went up in price since then. swapped stock tires because they were rubbish and also bought better seatpost from upper model. removed all the unneccessary stuff like ringer or mudguards and this thing flies. im getting average speed about 18km/h on my rides and done about 4000km so far without any problems. this is perfect city bike in my opinion. if this thing had disc brakes it would be even better.

grzes··on Lucid – software architecture for scalable Laravel projects
i think its basically some skeleton for DDD & command bus patterns in Laravel world. seems like an overkill for most laravel apps though
grzes··on Laravel Transporter
totally agree with other commenters - guy just over-engineered non-existent problem
grzes··on Regarding Semantic Versioning
thats why i pin my deps to the exact versions in production apps :)
grzes··on New Leaks of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano
i think 1366x768 resolution on 15.6 inch screen is perfect in terms of UI elements size. like its a sweet spot between to small and too large with enought horizontal area.

physical width of such 15.6 inch screen is 34.53 cm so it gives you 0,025285037 cm per pixel.

so my "perfect" laptop would have 15.6 inch screen and 16:10 aspect ratio. i would double the resolution in order to avoid fractional scaling and use 200% scaling so final resolution would be 2732x1708 - anyone can recommend something close to that on the market?

grzes··on Show HN: KickAssSubtitles – browser-based subtitle searcher and converter
Hi there HN!

i'd like to share with you a side-project i've been working on recently. To describe it shortly - its browser-based subtitle searcher & converter. You can think of it as a really simplistic clone of opensubtitles.org for instance.

The project is open-source :) You can find the repository here:

https://github.com/kickasssubtitles/kickasssubtitles

I would greatly appreciate your feedback. I have plans to add more site-translations and expose an API in the future.

Cheers!
