grokcodec··on Moderna reports first positive Phase 3 for mRNA neoantigen therapy in melanoma
See my comments below on Vioxx - even the manufacturers admitted covid shots caused myocarditis in young men - why are you so sure this new therapy won't cause the same issues, or worse ?

As there is no safety data available on this new drug, what makes you say it is safe ? Pre 2020 it took an average of 10 years to release a new vaccine - why do you think it took that long ?
grokcodec··on Moderna reports first positive Phase 3 for mRNA neoantigen therapy in melanoma
Radiation dose, for example, is precisely measured - we know exactly how much radiation the body is exposed to during therapy. mRNA products work by making our cells produce the desired protein/drug. There is no way of controlling how many cells are producing the drug and for how long they are producing it - ergo there is no way of controlling the dose. I hate to break it to you but they have found people producing spike protein over 3 years after getting the covid shot.

not if you dropped dead from a heart attack after your therapy. Are you familiar with vioxx ? https://www.npr.org/2007/11/10/5470430/timeline-the-rise-and...

In other news, your barber thinks you need a haircut. Until there is a proven net overall health benefit to this therapy, I wouldn't waste much ink on it. Also, can someone please tell me how one controls the dose for an mRNA therapy ?
grokcodec··on Israel creates fake think tank in likely attempt to dupe AI chatbots
I see all you've got from the past 60 years is one tragic friendly fire incident. Iran has intentionally killed thousands of American civilians and service men either directly or through its proxies since 1979, including 43 American civilians murdered and 13 taken hostage on October 7, 2023.
grokcodec··on Israel creates fake think tank in likely attempt to dupe AI chatbots
How many Americans has Israel killed either directly or by proxy ? be specific

great questions. The broad consensus is a bit tricky though. As they say: "Eat shit - 10 billion flies can't be wrong"
grokcodec··on Israel creates fake think tank in likely attempt to dupe AI chatbots
Here's the difference though - Israel is an ally of the United States while Iran is a sworn enemy that has killed thousands of Americans since the 1979 revolution and routinely chants "Death to America". So, not equivalent.

how do you gauge if a source is reputable ? genuinely curious

Something to keep in mind - responsiblestatecraft.org is published by the Quincy Institue, considered by many to be a de-facto lobbying group for the Islamic Republic of Iran. Here is one data point: https://quillette.com/2024/06/20/the-quincy-institute-middle...
grokcodec··on Anton Chekhov played at love most of his life
I think it is important to separate the artist's life from their works of art.Their lives are in some way immaterial to the enjoyment of their work, which even they themselves may not fully comprehend.

Also life is messy:

“You know how you’re always trying to get things to come out perfect in art because it’s real difficult in life"

Woody Allen in Annie Hall

grokcodec··on Rust SIMD on the GPU
I would love to have an open source Rust SIMD library with the scope and maturity that https://github.com/google/highway brings to C++.
grokcodec··on Japanese court overturns Red RAW video patent
I've been waiting for this result for a long time - great news!!
grokcodec··on Bioengineered chewing gum may offer a way to fight HPV and other microbes
this issue today is that governments can coerce people into taking those risks, regardless of risk appetite, or they can hide the actual risk. We saw this in real time over the past 6 years. That's why the precautionary principle is so important, also the Nuremberg code.

just the cost of doing business for these reprobates
grokcodec··on Bioengineered chewing gum may offer a way to fight HPV and other microbes
Not worth the time of day until it can be demonstrated that there is a net health benefit. Precautionary Principle FTW.
grokcodec··on Silicon Valley sees AI as the solution – for everyone else
The article clearly implies that one of the reasons why they "talk such nonsense" is because they are male, but no explanation is given - bog standard misandry that I take umbrage with.
grokcodec··on Silicon Valley sees AI as the solution – for everyone else
> males who come from narrow Stem (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) backgrounds

I see, so women from narrow Stem backgrounds would totally handle these issues differently, got it.

grokcodec··on The Origins of Modern Mathematics in Russia
Luzin's students referred to their community in Moscow during the 1920s as Luzin's Paradise, often nicknamed "Luzitania". I'm surprised the article didn't mention the "Luzin affair" : http://old.math.nsc.ru/LBRT/g2/english/ssk/case_e.html
grokcodec··on New HIV vaccine shows unprecedented success in preclinical study

grokcodec··on Protecting our FLOSS commons from LLMs
Many of their points ring true - increased pressure on maintainers, LLMs turning coders into paper pushers, the erosion of community.

Regarding discussion here o democracy - pure democracy can lead to suppression of minority views. Democracy can mean 6 / 10 people voting to beat the crap out of the other 4. The US, for example, is not a democracy, it is a constitutional republic, with checks and balances to prevent such abuse. Not perfect by any means, but doing pretty well compared to the alternatives available today.

grokcodec··on The state of open source AI
It appears you are unable or unwilling to answer my question: which country, US or China, is closer to Mussolini's model?
grokcodec··on The state of open source AI
Define technofascism lol.

Fascism was laid out by Mussolini in the 1920s - it amounts to the idolatry of the state.

"All within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state." B Mussolini

Also defined as Corporatism: the union of state and corporate power.

Which country do you think is closer to Mussolini's model ?

grokcodec··on Why I Stopped Arguing with People
This smells like a humble brag, driven by strong ego; count the number of 'I's in the post. I reckon the author is just as rigid in conversation as they always were, but now they can add "ego free" to their self satisfaction.

grokcodec··on LLMs are eroding my software engineering career and I don't know what to do
Maybe denial is a river in Egypt, but I (most of the time) believe that the glass is half full and we will need MORE humans as LLMs gain in ability. My thesis:

1. most jobs are created by small to medium size enterprise

2. the throttle for new SMEs has been people, money and ideas, in that order

3. with LLMs being a force multiplier, fewer technical people are needed but some people still ARE needed

4. with less throttling, MORE SMEs will be created with more jobs - they will be able to do more, faster, but still need some human oversight.

Also, what is the point of software if it is not to serve human needs?

Also, in open source, community building and tending is a very human enterprise that will not be replaced by bots any time soon. So, as coding becomes commoditised, perhaps the soft skills backed by technical knowledge will be the complementary skill that increases in value.

Or, maybe it's time for me to become an itinerant folk musician.
