grodriguez100··on Rules for writing software tutorials
AFAIK specifying a language only makes a difference for syntax highlighting. I have never seen a markdown processor that would add prompts to the code based on the specified language.
grodriguez100··on I thought I found a bug
It is not a bug. The article explains that this is the expected behaviour.
grodriguez100··on Dependency management fatigue, or why I ditched React for Go+HTMX+Templ
He actually says it is a counter-example of “does one thing well”.
grodriguez100··on Show HN: A free alternative to Typora –– IF
Don’t patronize me. I absolutely know what I need and what I don’t need, thanks.
grodriguez100··on Show HN: A free alternative to Typora –– IF
As a user evaluating a tool like this, I definitely don’t need a “lifestyle that includes life philosophy”.

Trust is what has been broken.

Childish.

grodriguez100··on Ptxdist – "Professional Embedded Linux Made Easy"
It is similar to buildroot, but more powerful. We have been using it for 10+ years with very good results.

Why no traction? Not sure about that. Perhaps it was difficult to communicate the benefits in an area where buildroot was already well established.

grodriguez100··on Ptxdist – "Professional Embedded Linux Made Easy"
I personally very much prefer buildroot over yocto, which feels bloated (my opinion only). However buildroot has some shortcomings that are important to me (for example it lacks a package system, which makes it difficult to do partial updates). Ptxdist adds this and also some other useful stuff, such as a mechanisms for “layers” (similar to Yocto).

I guess for me it just hits the sweet spot between simplicity and flexibility.

My company has been using it professionally since 2014, and we are very happy with the results.

grodriguez100··on Buildroot
For a buildroot alternative that solves many of these problems, without going to the complexity of Yocto, see ptxdist: https://www.ptxdist.org/
grodriguez100··on Nintendo isn't just attacking emulators [video]
> Regular Zelda fans who can afford one probably own a Switch already, are planning on buying a Switch 2 (or an OLED Switch after a price drop), and preordered the game.

This might be true, but only represents part of the sales — there are many potential buyers who are not “regular Zelda fans” and who may end up not buying the game if they can find a pirated copy.

grodriguez100··on Floating points between zero and one
> You may select any real number between zero and infinity.

Should that have been “between one and infinity”? Otherwise you cannot claim that 1/R is between zero and one.

grodriguez100··on Reverse Captcha
The link seems to be broken.
grodriguez100··on CrowdStrike Update: Windows Bluescreen and Boot Loops
When is HW much more complex than the SW? I work in a company that designs (far from trivial) hardware, and develops embedded software, and in my experience software is always more complex than hardware, due to the many layers of abstraction (unless you are writing only, IDK, boot loaders in assembler? and even then it is about the same level of complexity)
grodriguez100··on Stop Microsoft users sending 'reactions' to email by adding a postfix header
Be thankful that this actually works. It wouldn’t if both Microsoft and Google checked for the magic token at the end of the SSID string :-/
grodriguez100··on Neo Geo Architecture: A practical analysis
> No NeoGeo game […]

Not only NeoGeo games — I would say that there is no game that could give me the experience of A Link to the Past for the SNES. Best game ever (for me).

grodriguez100··on Show HN: I am building an open-source Confluence and Notion alternative
That’s useful, thanks.

Will probably need to start with an Ubuntu image instead of Alpine to keep changes to a minimum.

Recommendations for an “rc-service” to use in this context ?

grodriguez100··on Show HN: I am building an open-source Confluence and Notion alternative
I know this is not the recommended practice, but I am working on a legacy project where we need to migrate to Docker and the first step (before decomposing in multiple containers) would be to have an all-in-one container running all services. I am looking for hints / recommendations on the best way to do this. Can you provide any pointers ?
grodriguez100··on Polyfill supply chain attack hits 100K+ sites
I love the ethanol consumption attack thing :-)
grodriguez100··on Ask HN: Alternatives to Gumroad for "software licenses"?
Yes, Gumroad supports EUR as a currency (partially).

I am looking for alternatives and I am saying that those alternatives also need to support EUR as a currency (some only support USD).m

Btw the article you linked to is about EU VAT handling. That has nothing to do with supporting EUR as a currency.

grodriguez100··on Ask HN: Alternatives to Gumroad for "software licenses"?
> For your language issue, you could self-host the platform and only run purchases through Gumroad. This is how I do it

Good advice. Will have a look at this. Thanks!

grodriguez100··on Ask HN: Alternatives to Gumroad for "software licenses"?
Looks good! Thank you
grodriguez100··on TinyLetter, in Memoriam
Looks great! Thanks
grodriguez100··on TinyLetter, in Memoriam
Do you have any recommendation for a similar simple, no bells & whistles newsletter service? Something which just provides a signup form and a way to send simple emails to your audience, no need for more.
grodriguez100··on UI elements with a hand-drawn, sketchy look
Looks great! No iOS version?
grodriguez100··on On the trail of my identity thief
Yes, the situation in Europe is much better, even more so after the introduction of PSD2 which requires strong customer authentication and is specifically designed to avoid (or at least minimize..) identity fraud.

> I could make it more beautiful and all but I dont have infinite time -- in the end im trying to get a job with it

My two cents only, and this is meant to be constructive criticism. Precisely because you are trying to land a job with this I think you should try to polish as much as possible.

As an employer I’d probably get a better impression if someone shows me a less ambitious project, but one where attention to detail shines everywhere, rather than a more ambitious project that looks “half cooked”. The message I am looking for is “I can do things well, and I care” and for me that is more important than the size of the project.

Of course I am aware that this is completely subjective.

I have now read this comment three times and still don’t know what it is about.
grodriguez100··on macOS 14.4.1 fixes Java-breaking bug
macOS 14.4 introduced a bug that potentially affected all Java applications, on all existing Java versions, with no workaround. The bug was caused by a breaking change in the way the OS handled processes writing to protected memory. This has been now fixed in macOS 14.4.1.
grodriguez100··on Only <SPAN>s
This is fun to see as an experiment but hopefully nobody does this in real life. This breaks accessibility, reader mode, screen readers, etc.
