This is another reason to spend more money on clothes: quality materials look good as they age. I bought a Old Navy pullover which only lasted 2-3 washes before pilling like crazy.

gregcoombe··on Nest to join forces with Google’s hardware team
You might not be the target market. The value proposition was largely the attractive design, which is still significantly better than most thermostats. And in addition the UX is nicer, and the app is convenient every once a while (coming home from a long trip), but I think those may be secondary.

gregcoombe··on Google IT Support Professional Certificate
This is a certificate, not a degree, which is a fairly important distinction. The goal is to teach a set of technical skills that allow you to get a specific job. In 20 years, your experience will count much more than either a degree or certificate.

According to Google translate, that is a "Systems Integration Specialist". I really like it: it's more descriptive of your actual job than "Information Technologist".

"If the Universe were your local neighborhood, dark matter is the family that communicates with everyone, even other family members, only by changing the name of their WiFi network."

Ha! There are a couple of other gems in the article. Entertaining and educational.

gregcoombe··on How the Transbay Transit Center Is Reshaping San Francisco
Agreed. I think there is a plan to connect to BART and MUNI trains via a tunnel that runs under Beale Street. But that's part of the "unlikely-in-our-lifetimes" 2nd phase.

There are some interesting links in this recent Economist article: http://www.economist.com/news/business/21688872-fashion-maki...

Example quote: "... interruptions, even short ones, increase the total time required to complete a task by a significant amount."

Including a book I'm going to check out, "Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World"
