greekanalyst··on Stories into podcasts, narrated in your voice by cloning your voice
Curious, how is that different to Wondercraft? https://www.wondercraft.ai/tools/ai-podcast-generator
greekanalyst··on The AI revolution is here. Will the economy survive the transition?
I have a feeling we will be looking back at this multi-party interview in 10 years, perhaps with delight or maybe with horror, but certainly with great interest.
greekanalyst··on Accumulation of cognitive debt when using an AI assistant for essay writing task
"...the LLM group's participants performed worse than their counterparts in the Brain-only group at all levels: neural, linguistic, scoring."

That's not surprising but also bleak.

greekanalyst··on Ask HN: How are you acquiring your first hundred users?
I would suggest the following simple process:

(1) Talk to your existing users: If your product has a free version, reach out to all of them and make sure you speak with as many of your freemium users as possible. If your product only offers a paid version, again reach out to all of them. Anyone who has already voted with their credit card is a very important person to talk to.

(2) Maximize learning: Understand what are the biggest pain-points you are helping your customers solve. Drill down on their psychographic profiles. Map everything out.

(3) Identify your optimal paid ICP: This is a best guess effort. Do not worry about nailing it 100%. Just make sure it is as close to your current full understanding as possible

(4) Go after them. The HOW is not as important as long as you understand the WHO.

greekanalyst··on Amazon's Vulcan Robots Now Stow Items Faster Than Humans
It's clear we are near an event horizon moment.
greekanalyst··on Rockets, robots and supercars made in Greece
Could not agree more! We have a long way to go, but it is truly amazing to see the level of innovation brewing in Greece today, especially after more than a decade of deep crisis and continuous decay.
greekanalyst··on How Kerala got rich
It's pretty crazy how many new billionaires have been minted in Kerala.

greekanalyst··on The Evolution of Computer Science at the University Level
Degrees that blend the humanities and computer science are certainly a positive development, especially in the "Age of AI" that we are living in.
greekanalyst··on Sweden brings more books and handwriting practice back to its schools (2023)
Physical reading/writing >> Digital reading/writing
greekanalyst··on Rational or not? This basic math question took decades to answer
I want to take a moment and appreciate how important science writing is for the lot of us who might be curious enough to love these kinds of breakthroughs but not technical enough to fully understand them.

Thank you Quanta and thank you science writers all over the world for making science more accessible!

greekanalyst··on The Year in Math
AI is finally at the stage where it's transforming the entire discipline of mathematics. I wonder what Russell would think about this.
greekanalyst··on Kakizome: Japanese way of new-years resolution
Fun fact: although rarely used, the very close word "kakiazomai" (κακιάζομαι) means "I am feeling/generating evil/bad/negative thoughts" in Greek.
greekanalyst··on OpenAI is losing money on its pricey ChatGPT Pro plan, CEO Sam Altman says
Pricing is the alpha and the omega. OpenAI would be getting some very interesting questions today about its cost metrics and margins if it was a public company.
greekanalyst··on Social Media Distorts Perceptions of Norms
Findings are not surprising but definitely interesting and verify a lot of the assumptions many of us have these days about the power/influence of social media.
greekanalyst··on We're All in 'Dark Mode' Now
Dark mode is the light moat of my life.
greekanalyst··on A Return to Polymathy (2015) [pdf]
Great piece. One of the best places cultivating this type of polymathy today is Stanford's Symbolic Systems Program. https://symsys.stanford.edu/
greekanalyst··on The DIY Multideck
It feels intimidating at first sight, but this looks like a very cool idea.
greekanalyst··on In Colorado, a marriage of solar energy and farming
This is already happening in countries around the Mediterranean, such as Greece.
greekanalyst··on Show HN: App that asks ‘why?’ every time you unlock your phone
The app I always knew I needed but never thought I wanted too.
greekanalyst··on The Internet in Greece
Yes, lack of true competition is a big problem.

Unfortunately, all relevant watchdogs are unable or unwilling to ensure the proper functioning of the market, which is free only on paper for some key industries (banking, internet/mobile services, supermarkets, ferries, energy, etc.).

greekanalyst··on The Internet in Greece
We do enjoy the simple pleasures of life more than other countries - sometimes too much perhaps. :-)

The problem with the internet in Greece is fundamentally a combo of bad infrastructure (due to belated investment), high taxes (on internet services) and terrible market dynamics (an oligopolistic industry after intense consolidation).

If you are a tourist or a Greek on holiday, perhaps it's great to disconnect. But if your work depends on it, that's a very different story.

greekanalyst··on Waymo One is now open to everyone in San Francisco
Let the robotaxi wars begin!
greekanalyst··on OpenAI Acquires Multi
Rockset acquisition announced 2 days ago. Now Multi.

OpenAI on an M&A spree.

Interesting.

greekanalyst··on Does ChatGPT make us dumber?
"I hope we will make AI push us to think more, not less. And through more thinking, we will create new, original approaches or solutions to old but very important problems."

I want to be positive, but I am not as optimistic as the dear writer.

I fear that our ability of long-term critical thinking will suffer. We already see that happening in the age of dopamine-fueled, short-form content. The average attention span is becoming shorter but the ability to rationalize effectively does not become faster.

Adding AI into the mix, the next 50 years will be very interesting for the Gen Z world.

greekanalyst··on Humans began to rapidly accumulate technological knowledge 600k years ago
"The result is, our cultures — from technological problems and solutions to how we organize our institutions — are too complex for individuals to invent on their own.”

Yes, solo geniuses might often make unbelievable inventions on their own.

But science, progress and innovation are all social concepts at the end of the day.

I find this pretty amazing.

greekanalyst··on How to get stuff repaired when the manufacturer don't wanna: take 'em to court
The EU gets a lot of heat for many things (and rightfully so), but this is an area where it is actually doing wonders in favor of consumers.

Here is the directive adopted by the EU Council to promote the repair of broken or defective goods, also known as the right-to-repair (or R2R) directive:

"The directive adopted today enshrines a new right for consumers: the right to have defective products repaired in an easier, cheaper and faster way. It also gives manufacturers the incentive to make products that last longer and can be repaired, reused and recycled."

greekanalyst··on The American West is figuring out how to keep cool
This is a big problem we are facing in Greece too, especially in our concrete jungle (Athens).

Summers are not just unbearable, but becoming dangerous too.

Extreme weather events are here to stay and we need to find smart ways to handle them. We also need to prepare for a way of life that is different than what we are used to, including the social/economic ramifications of these environmental changes.

greekanalyst··on Indian startup 3D prints rocket engine in 72 hours
That's super cool.

India has enormous potential and it is amazing to witness the rise of its tech scene.

greekanalyst··on Welcome to the safest time to give birth in human history
Infant mortality rates are historically moving down, but so are fertility rates.

21st century demographics will be a tough cookie to crack.

greekanalyst··on Feynman’s Razor
Simplicity is key, but over-simplicity is a killer.
