greatpatton··on Uber must employ its drivers, Dutch court rules
But the same rules applied to all taxi drivers before Uber. In a lot of place taxi driver were forbidden to not accept customer hailing them, and the price is controlled almost everywhere. The logic would be that all taxi drivers have to been employed.

greatpatton··on PolarDB, yet another open source database system based on PostgreSQL
They did it only after ES decided to abandon the Apache license. I doubt that Amazon would have done it if they were not forced. Redshift is also Postgres based and Amazon never released something. So based on that metric Alibaba is more open.
greatpatton··on Way to Deal with a Micromanaging Boss
Not the OP, but the one time I had to micromanage someone was because the engineer was unable to focus on the important tasks and would deliver nice things but totally unrelated to the end goal...

greatpatton··on Terraria on Stadia cancelled after developer's Google account gets locked
As a consumer, every time the clause is not specifically negotiated, it is considered "abusive" and void (for businesses it may be different). If as a consumer you negotiate a contract with an arbitration clause it will be enforceable however if it is a generic clause in the terms& condition it will not.
greatpatton··on Terraria on Stadia cancelled after developer's Google account gets locked
It's the same in France and I think most of EU as the highest french court ruled that forced arbitration was against EU law.

For instance in Switzerland each year you have 550k non-professional accident (declared one to your employer) for 8.5M inhabitants. (Ref: SUVA annual report but only available in GE and FR)

greatpatton··on Robinhood is limiting purchases of stocks: AMC, Blackberry, Nokia, and GameStop
If the prevent buy and let people only sell stock it is going to create a great market imbalance that will just crash the stocks blocked.

For once this done by multiple broker is pure market manipulation because it is going to have a huge effect on the blocked stocks... and will leave big fish with direct access dictate the direction.

greatpatton··on Robinhood is limiting purchases of stocks: AMC, Blackberry, Nokia, and GameStop
yes Financial Times! this is a real low for a journalist...
greatpatton··on GameStop Is Rage Against the Financial Machine
Exactly! from who the short are getting their money when they crash a company stock like Wirecard? Not from the company management who did it but from other shareholders, and most of the time "retail" shareholder.

They are running to the ground company that may survive with a fresh injection of capital, and destroying company that suddenly cannot raise more capital or have no more collateral for a loan.

Moreover they are this hedge fund are manipulating information to the level of a troll farm. I was a shareholder of AMD when they where starting to release the Zen architecture. Every other week, they were sending report of "problems" with the new architecture, or even basic feature behaving normally. Hedging is ok, but betting as they do is not. And when they get burned I celebrate!

greatpatton··on The Battle of GameStop
So if everyone in Wall Street have significantly tighter risk can you explain the risk linked to the short position taken by Melvin Capital on GME? How many "Wall Street" were burned by taking high bet that went wrong going around their internal audit?
greatpatton··on SoftBank’s plan to sell Arm to Nvidia is hitting antitrust wall around the world
Sotbank holds massive investment in China. For instance Softbank own 25% of Alibaba (this 25% are way more valuable than ARM). So yes they do have a large power over Softbank not complying to their decision.
greatpatton··on SoftBank’s plan to sell Arm to Nvidia is hitting antitrust wall around the world

greatpatton··on Move to EU to avoid Brexit costs, firms told
No the article is saying that if you want to keep doing direct sales to EU customers (retail), the only way is to use a company in the EU from where you will do the shipping.
greatpatton··on PostgreSQL on ARM-Based AWS EC2 Instances
The cost here is an artificial variable as it completely under the control of AWS. They can decide to sell them very cheap to lock people on AWS.
greatpatton··on AWS announces forks of Elasticsearch and Kibana
And 6 years after the release of Elastic Compute Cloud.
greatpatton··on AWS announces forks of Elasticsearch and Kibana
