grails4life··on Ask HN: Non-suave nerds?
Basically, Paul Graham taught nerds how to be rich. So now they are suave.
grails4life··on JStat: a JavaScript statistical library
we could make one?
grails4life··on Not A Waste
Yes the twitter dropout only helped Amy gain exposure
grails4life··on Not A Waste
I know people who met on AOL instant messenger. Big Deal
grails4life··on JStat: a JavaScript statistical library
I will be using this for my project Here: http://statgadgets.student.iastate.edu/teaching/binomialci/

And here:http://statgadgets.student.iastate.edu/teaching/LeastSquares...

Thank you

grails4life··on Entreporn, The Fallacy That Wastes Your Life
You mean Justin Kan?
grails4life··on Entreporn, The Fallacy That Wastes Your Life
I think Spolsky settled this dichotomy back in 2000: http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/fog0000000056.html
grails4life··on Stat Teaching-Confidence intervals-jquery+raphaeljs
Please give suggestions for the top text.
grails4life··on Y Combinator's Graham Doesn't See "Bubble" in Technology
A better question would have been "what are the big failures of YC" - smaller list to iterate through.
grails4life··on How to reject a job candidate without being an asshole
If the reason your not offering someone a job is because they messed up technical questions, I think its a good idea to give them candid feedback on the spot. Its objective. If you are having to choose among several qualified candidates, then I think this is asking for trouble, since there isnt an objective clear reason for the person not getting the job.
grails4life··on Screwed up incentives in higher education
Please have the speaker in the demo SLOW DOWN. It was hard to keep up with her as she showed off the software.
grails4life··on [dead]
I wish the $101 savings applied to refurbs
grails4life··on Ask HN: Job interview followup: common courtesy or asking too much?
The places im interviewing are are the opposite of startups. One was a community college, very rude .. when I asked why I wasnt notified that the position was filled she said "im planning to send out an email". No email to date and this was a 3 weeks ago.
grails4life··on 10 apps in 50 days: Launch #1
Ok, that is awesome. You should put some text explaining that somewhere on the page.
grails4life··on 10 apps in 50 days: Launch #1
How is this different than scraping the results of a youtube search and embedding a result?
grails4life··on After 4 years of self-funded coding marathons I feel "finished", care to talk?
If your business requires TechCrunch noticing you to be successful, then its a bad idea for you, pick something else in your league.
grails4life··on Ask HN: Is a Doctorate Worth it?
25 is young. Many 25 year olds dont have much work experience. Just make sure when you do go for the PhD, you finish it and dont end up spending 4 years and no degree. 25 + PhD in CS = very employable.
grails4life··on Ask HN: Any engineers interested in HFT?
Yes of these strategies "work" for a while by taking advantage of pricing anomalies and multiplying the difference a million times over. The problem is in order to make a decent return with this approach you have to be heavily leveraged, and eventually when the tail outcome on the bad side occurs, you lose your ass, as in LTCM.
grails4life··on Ask HN: Any engineers interested in HFT?
These statistical arbitrage trading strategies dont work. The market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent. Focus on creating value, and not just swaping it around.
grails4life··on The sad truth about Facebook
Nathan Myhrvold is also a patent troll:

grails4life··on Making the World’s Data Computable
Its hard to differentiate between Wolfram the intellectual and Wolfram the Mathematica peddler.
grails4life··on Ask HN: Help me find an exotic programming language to learn next
I recommend learning Blub
grails4life··on Ask PG: Polite ways to scrape HN?
Are you calling Arc Lisp slow?
grails4life··on Ask HN: What's the big deal with startups anyways...
There is always going to be hype around high variance career paths, because so little is understood about was factors are causal for success.

In low variance career paths, things are pretty straightforward so there is little blog about.

grails4life··on Visual R
I hope this gets ported to OS X and Windows
grails4life··on Visual R
Looks good. The only criticism I would have is that those inclined to install JGR and Deducer are those least likely to be interested in GUIs.
grails4life··on Visual R
Thanks for the links. Looks like this project is focusing more on the command line..mine will have it, but its not the focus.
grails4life··on Visual R

grails4life··on Visual R
Yes Ive talked to Jeroen, nice guy.
