It's not a huge savings, but I got $101 off an MBA.

In the UK the savings are a little better (but the prices are a lot higher so it works out worse). You can also save an extra 4% if you go through Quidco (http://www.quidco.com/).

I think when I ordered my MacBook (alu) two years ago, I was able to get 100€ off from the vendor on the phone, too. Calling the Apple store, that is.

Still, it's nice not having to negotiate.

20% or more depending on what you buy. I've bought through him, just make sure he's shipping from UK so you don't pay import duties.

Is it refurbished stuff?

I'm not sure if you can buy refurbished, but I've only ever bought brand new stuff - I think he imports en masse from other countries. He's quite good at replying to questions too if you have detailed questions. The savings are really good eh?

Tax in NC is $92.85 nearly wiping out the savings.

Wouldn't you have to pay the tax even when it wasn't on sale?

It is possible to buy from an online retailer which does not have a presence in your state, then not report the transaction to your state and avoid both sales and excise tax. It is illegal but never prosecuted and so widespread that most people don't even know they are supposed to pay tax on their mail order goods.

When you see news articles about "taxing the internet" they are usually about fixing this so all sales transactions will be taxed.
