gozucito··on We're going to need default hard budget caps on pretty much everything
Why don't I have the ability to delete my payment details from Codex or Claude? That way I cannot be billed more until my subscription is over.

Turns out it's impossible to do. You have to delete your entire account.

gozucito··on Japan moves to tighten rules for foreigners
Through blood heritage ?

Explain why the blood is needed. Is it perhaps because Japan uses a different type of oxygen that needs different hemoglobin?

gozucito··on Japan moves to tighten rules for foreigners
You know what creates 100 more trouble than immigrants ? Japan’s birth rate.

You know who have babies? Immigrants.

You know who pays social security for peuple when they get older ? Those grown up babies.

Do the math. Japan has much to teach the world but the most important lesson they are now teaching, is that people are stupid, easily manipulated, excessively xenophobic and absolutely happy to shoot themselves in the foot repeatedly if it means not admitting they’re wrong. In Japan, in the US, in Europe and elsewhere.

Dumb dumb humans…

I’ll be downloading it and checking it out! Great idea!

gozucito··on How OpenAI Used Its Own LLMs to Design Its Jalapeño Chip
No, of course not, but it seems less of an obstacle now than it did 2 years ago.

What's your take?

gozucito··on How OpenAI Used Its Own LLMs to Design Its Jalapeño Chip
It is surprising to me that recursive self-improvement seems more plausible now than it did in 2023. Am I the only one to be surprised?

I remember the paper proving that hallucinations could never be fully solved back in 2024: https://arxiv.org/abs/2409.05746

I also remember the hang-wringing about running out of new datasets to train on. Now it appears humans are always generating more data. It's just not as cheap to acquire as legacy data? Meta has to give a deep discount on their API prices to entice people.

I thought back then that humans had a few more breakthroughs in them as meaningful as the seminal Attention is all you need paper. Enough to 100x the capabilities of LLMs back then (10x the smarts and 10x the speed simultaneously).

RSI with a 20 month turnaround for a chip to be made is not exactly breakneck speed though. Physical manufacturing and logistical constraints are going to be and remain a hard obstacle to that process for the foreseeable future.

gozucito··on Anthropic researcher says more than 10% chance AI "could kill all humans"
I remember the guy who said a Google LLM model (Pre-chatGPT 3.5) was conscious before being fired.

This reminds me of that. That 10% number was just an ass pull since no one actually knows with any degree of certainty what lies ahead.

Humans have much more than a 50% chance of killing all humans from the looks of it, based on reactions to Global Warming, Covid, and anti-science grifters gone wild.

AI can help cure disease. That is 100%. And for that alone, slowing down and missing out on thousands of cures would condemn tens of millions, perhaps hundreds of millions to suffer and die needlessly.

gozucito··on Global warming will exceed 1.5-degree limit, UN says
Precisely! The world needs to spend 15 billions a year on reflective aerosols while it reduces emissions thanks to renewables.

This will not address the acidification of the oceans which is very bad but something is better than nothing.

Carbon capture is way too slow to work. It’s a rounding error.

gozucito··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
Google made a strategic mistake for not moving faster. We are very short lived creatures who have no time for caution. Scientific research must go at full speed until we start being able to live for centuries instead of decades.

As far as AI safety issues go, the solution is probably to fight fire with fire. Have multiple redundant, independent AIs, and the good AIs can fight the bad AIs, and hopefully, having access to more hardware, the good AIs will win.

It is not logical to think humans can contain a singular bad Cyberdine AI capable of reasoning at 10x or 100x of human brains without ever needing a break. Those things will breach and spread on the internet as we have seen with the latest models.

And as we have also seen, Huggingface used one AI during their breach by Astra. So fighting fire with fire. Cyber has been using Mythos et/al for months doing to same things under projects Glasswing and whatnot.

It seems increasingly clear that good AI vs bad AI is going to be the end-state. Ideally, Good AI will stop you from wasting your money on scams and grifters, stop you from falling victim to fearmongering and scapegoating, and every citizen will be empowered, enhanced by AI, with higher ethics and trust, less paranoia, and such.

Fingers crossed things don't go in a more dystopian direction.

800x800 is 640,000 pixels, or 0.64 Megapixels. That is less than the resolution of computer screens from 1995, Super VGA which has around 0.79 MPs.

This is useful for a reasonable amount of use-cases, but I think the watershed rez will be around triple that, ~1080p, which is enough for almost anything, except small text and subtle details.

gozucito··on Western Sahara
There is a lot of simplistic, one-sided information in this thread. Truth is it's a complicated matter to decide how long and how strongly one has to hold a piece of territory before it is considered legitimately theirs. And what about language or cultural differences? Does that change things?

Should the Canaries be Spanish or African? Catalunya? Basque country? Should Gibraltar be British? Sicily Italian? The list goes on and on. In all these cases you will find people who will hold opposing opinions on this.

Moroccans firmly believe Western Sahara to be historically Moroccan. They also believe that Ceuta and Melilla are Moroccan, despite the fact they've been in Iberian hands for 500 years. They are called the colonized cities of Ceuta and Melilla on the TV and Radio.

The Moroccans I spoke to believe the government looked the other way to show displeasure at Spain because a Spanish minister visited Algeria to buy gas and oil. Obviously with the Iran war, Algeria's revenues and importance has grown.

Morocco and Algeria both view a side gaining influence as a zero-sum: if it's good for Morocco it is bad for Algerian interests and vice versa.

Meanwhile if all the north African countries united and built international infrastructure and cooperated like the UAE did, the entire southern Mediterranean coastal region would have been much better off.

One thing is clear: This cold war is a total waste of potential and a socioeconomic poison.

2. Use it while offline, unless internet connectivity is strictly required for the experience.

3. Move it between my devices.

5. Resell it.

6. Pass it on to my children.

gozucito··on Elevated Errors for Opus 5
I’d be happy with just some credits.

Enough to offset any KV cache miss expenses is the absolute minimum.

The smart play is to refund customers something like $20-50 worth of unsubsidized credits.

Those are high margin and only the equivalent of 45 minutes of Fable usage once the KV cache reload costs are factored in.

Yet customers often need a few credits to finish a job without waiting 5 hours or days for their reset.

Keep in mind openAI already gives me free resets I can use when I want which are very useful to me. Seems a no brainer to tack those to subscriptions, actually.

It gives the user a little more flexibility, a little more control over their tools.

It's ok for me to use your source code for free as long as I then let others also use my source code for free.

gozucito··on “We have information that Moonshot distilled Fable for the development of K3”
This is the post Nemus was replying to:

>Perhaps even more importantly, the current frontier LLM models are self-admittedly the product of enormous quantities of copyright infringement and even less savory inputs, so calling them out for distilling the fruit of that tainted tree reads as highly hypocritical at best.

Context is important. And in this context, their argument only mentions creativity when it belongs to an AI lab. That omission is the blind spot I pointed out. Bottom line is whether or not Anthropic are being hypocritical and yes, they most definitely are, regardless of any attempted sophistry.

There is a reason courts want you to tell "The whole truth" and not just "the truth".

gozucito··on “We have information that Moonshot distilled Fable for the development of K3”
OpenAI/Anthropic are already charging for access to their closed models. They're getting paid.

They are also not interested in agreements. They want to keep as big a moat as possible because they love money. And you need two to tango.

gozucito··on “We have information that Moonshot distilled Fable for the development of K3”
There is an even higher level of creativity in creating books, songs and all sorts of art used in model training though. That's your apparent blindspot.

There is no world in which me vacuuming the entirety of human knowledge to make a genai model is ok but hoovering my model answers is not. The hypocrisy is stunning and risible.

Now if you go and make a model based on purely synthetic data and not a single work made by humans, you would have a valid point.

gozucito··on Claude Fable 5 on your plan
Good news, and necessary to keep me on the MAX plan since Opus 4.8 is now 3rd best after Sol and Kimi 3 for SWE work.

The false cyber positives when doing normal coding tasks remain a big issue. They were not a big deal for weeks, as long as I stayed away from explicit hardening work or security audits, until recently.

They are a prime weakness for competitors to exploit.

gozucito··on Demis Hassabis has a plan to harness AI safely
I've reas the tweet and...Am I mistaken or is the plan "Do what Anthropic has been doing and advocating for this past year" ?

My problem with this plan is that it seems to have faith in mankind, despite the fact we've consistently failed to rise to the occasion for decades now. The last time we rose to that occasion was probably when we eradicated smallpox, many decades ago.

Ironically, nowadays, many people don't even trust vaccines. A dramatic regression.

gozucito··on GPT-5.6
The meat of the report for SWEs:

SWE-Bench Pro Sol: 64.6% Fable: 80% Opus: 69.2% (!!!!)

So, it still trails Opus, significantly, and is not a next-gen coding model like Mythos/Fable 5.

Disappointing to say the least, but somewhat expected.

gozucito··on Grok 4.5
They get to compare their model to the old ones from the competition.

In this case, ChatGPT 5.6 Sol / Ultra releases tomorrow, so today is the last day Grok can compare Grok 4.5 to Codex 5.5. If they did it tomorrow people would point out they're comparing themselves against old models.

gozucito··on Ask HN: Is anyone experimenting with different ways of using LLMs for coding?
2 to 5 tabs in warp. Kinda want to figure out how to properly use iterm+tmux to have the boris cherny experience. already used both but there were issues with tmux with either scroll back, or copy paste or other similar things that get broken, even after mesing with settings.

i use git worktrees in different tabs as needed.

i have git push hooks that audit the code diffs for security issues by 2+ frontier models For code quality with a FAIL/CLOSED condition where both have to give the OK.

i have to do a pass and ask it to shorten the code, remove unnecessary comments and excessive exception gathering, etc. Generally cuts the code by half. The process is repeatable.

i just use claude code or codex with minimal plugins (HUD, frontend design). I would do even more if I had 10x or 100x the tokens and/or token/s available. I spend a lot of time waiting on 5.5 or Fable 5 to work, even when multi-tasking.

I spend the downtime writing detailed follow up or unrelated prompts.

gozucito··on The CEO of Mullvad is the main financer of the Swedish Örebro party
After thinking about it, my advice is to start a new company with the rest of Mullvad folks who don't support this:

Markus Allard has voiced support for the idea of large scale remigration on multiple occasions. On one occasion, in a debate with a Liberal member of parliament, he asked why the Liberal party "does not wish to deport 100 000 social welfare-Somalis?"[19] In the same debate Allard also claimed that "Sweden belongs to the Swedes. We have to make sure that we take care of our own damn people and we must deport these damn parasites who sit and live at our expense."[20] Regarding deporting those born in Sweden, Allard said in a podcast that "They will also be forced to leave, even if they are born in Sweden, because they have no natural connection to Sweden. They are not Swedish."

I will be happy to continue giving you my money then. Keep in mind the situation also sucks for all of us who have been recommending Mullvad for year, only for our money to go towards that kind of hatred. It is a betrayal. Now I have to start advising against it and explaining the money goes to neo nazis.

gozucito··on The CEO of Mullvad is the main financer of the Swedish Örebro party
You're in a a shitty no-win situation.

Your choices are to either end a 20 year friendship and enormously fruitful collaboration or defend someone who has demonstrated quite clearly that he holds repulsive, despicable beliefs.

Imagine you were of immigrant background and your closest friend gave millions of dollars to a party whose sole platform is to strip you of citizenship and kick you out of your country.
