goolz··on Red Hat being phased out of existence?
I love Debian for servers still but man Bazzite (atomic Fedora) has been a dream these past years for my gaming PC and laptop. Astoundingly it “just works” in every regard and is rock solid. With the advent of LLMs automating away all the minutiae of caring for a desktop environment I feel like I have died and gone to heaven.
goolz··on Nvidia wants to put a watchdog chip next to every AI agent
Very much agree with this sentiment. I imagine a future where tons of small tasks are handled by just-good-enough intelligence. And I can run them on my own hardware.
goolz··on Anthropic's IPO prospectus shows AI vision, surging costs
It is becoming increasingly hard not to see it as transformative. The man hours needed to do my work has been cut down by orders of magnitude. Wether this transformation is wholly a good thing is to be seen.
goolz··on Teaching a World Model to Play Pokemon
Small correction but it came out in Japan in 1996.
goolz··on AI safety is mostly a sex cult
Am I crazy to think all this AI safety stuff is ridiculous marketing and that Roko’s Basilisk is equally dumb?
goolz··on Claude discovers a novel enzyme system with CRISPR-like repeats
Another reason to switch off a central provider to open models as quickly as possible.
goolz··on Hackers Got Inside a Flock Camera
Why did we not get the cool dystopia ala Gibson's Chiba City?
goolz··on Why I'm still bearish on LLMs after Navier-Stokes
Maybe a specific cancer but in general “solving cancer” is about as scattershot and unspecific as you could be.
goolz··on David Sacks: OpenAI and Anthropic Don't Need Regulations to Pace Frontier Models
I have high hopes for AI yet am hard pressed to envision said abundance trickling down to the common man. The diseases cured will be locked behind a paywall and a renaissance of democracy and freedom is laughable in 2026, let alone beyond.

Dario and his team are on top of the world. He is a good salesman, no doubt. The shareholders will eat well.

goolz··on Navier-Stokes – Tristan Buckmaster [pdf]
This is what is truly problematic. People at OAI probably think they can do and say whatever they want.
goolz··on Kids These Days
And how many of those degrees are going to result in a worthwhile job? University is a massive industry now, billions of dollars are at play, and it has never been easier to take out $100k in perma-debt to go to school. Of course more people go, a B.S. is the ground floor now, yet many degrees are barely worth the paper they are printed on.
goolz··on ArXiv has almost 600 submissions today and most are AI slop
Recently ran into someone who thought they had solved a major quantum computing problem. Needless to say, they had not, and I wasted a good hour wading through their ‘work’. Time I will never get back. Nothing more to add than to echo your thoughts. Wish I had a better solution.
goolz··on Kids These Days
I specifically do not want kids because it feels like I would be shortchanging them. I imagine all generations think it was better in their day. But you are right. Owning a car is absurdly expensive, public transit is pretty grim in the US and definitely not cheap, plus our food supply is literal slop. Even the cheap stuff is expensive now.

It is truly depressing. I can’t imagine being a kid who has to navigate all that on top of social media and constant agitprop.

goolz··on U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications
A really good point and it echoes exactly how I feel. I want people to feel stable, have visas, etc. I understand there are truly irreplaceable workers out there and I want to have empathy for their situation.

Yet, I feel my apathy growing. I know logically it is not the person seeking a better life’s fault. But the system is broken and the only winners seem to be Fortune 500 companies.

goolz··on Anna's Archive Owes $340 Million, Lost Several Domains, but It's Still Online
They provide the world with an invaluable service at the expense of their freedom. Seems incredibly noble and good to me. Especially considering the current climate.
goolz··on Stop Making TUIs
I honestly get better results out of claude at the command line than inside a GUI. Maybe I am just imagining things. But a lot of times GUIs are just graphical abstractions of TUIs. It is cruft that makes things visually easier and more appealing. That does not stop people from mastering TUIs and unlocking extra potential as they typically offer much deeper customization.

Once you go down this path, it is hard to go back. Very few tasks, apart from things like Photoshop and Revit, really require me to be at a GUI these days. And with MCP a lot of that is going away.

goolz··on Grand jury declines to indict Ohio man charged with destroying Flock camera
Is this sarcasm? Hopefully so but if not I assure you Flock is not worried about those bad seeds. They want a panopticon that can help the feds with parallel construction.
goolz··on Firefox for iOS now has a native adblocker
Love Focus! Daily drove for years now. It is great that it nukes your tabs when you fully close it. Helps my brain.
goolz··on Is the industry ready for tokens-constrained work?
At least for myself personally: Opus 5 Ultra spreading out hundreds of subagents on specific tasks can gobble tokens like mad. Recently I did a custom OCR pipeline in a day and some Revit automation, extremely large datasets, but I definitely spent good money to make it happen so fast.

I almost certainly wasted tokens, but right now things are subsidized, so it works.

goolz··on Cursor is now a part of SpaceX
Very on-brand for a Halo 2 lobby circa 2005.
goolz··on GLM-5.3: Frontier coding with emergent cyber capabilities
Sometimes fear can be quite exciting.
goolz··on Codex in ChatGPT desktop app for Linux is now in preview
I guess to each their own, as I find the GUIs to be clunky and a net negative to my workflow. Admittedly, I should give them another chance, and see how they have matured lately.
goolz··on Hello, me. It's been a while
I wear headphones about 80% of my waking day. Super comfy, wireless, noise-cancelling ones. The funny thing is, I rarely play anything through them, and am almost always just listening to silence.

I try and listen to other things, podcasts or music, sadly nothing compares to that golden silence.

goolz··on GLM-5.3: Frontier coding with emergent cyber capabilities
I have already begun winding down my spend on claude and OAI to make room for infra budget. Anecdotal, but I have no doubt a lot of others are doing the same, I very much agree the US players have major issues looming. What an exciting time to be alive!
goolz··on Tailscale didn't stop the Hugging Face intrusion
Nothing more to add than I echo it all and will continue being a happy customer after seeing this. A rarity in today’s world, kudos to them.
goolz··on Apple defeats liability for not scanning iCloud for CSAM
It is crazy that I do not trust a multi-trillion dollar company who has forced labor in their supply chain to have my best interests in mind? It is crazy to me you would think they do not understand the concept of lip service.

These companies are liars. I do not trust liars. It has served me well.

goolz··on ICE to Pay Thomson Reuters $125M to Find Voter Fraud
I do. Citizens United. It is a pay-to-play system we have going on here and it is working exactly as designed. Bribery? Why no, that is simply a donation. With enough money and moral bankruptcy you can accomplish all sorts of silly things that are in direct violation of the constitution, the law, and even common decency.
goolz··on Kimi Work
That last line is wonderful! Thank you for this man. I honestly like the original more despite it's wordiness.
goolz··on The state of open source AI
Completely agree. Once I can reliably get open models doing what I am on Fable ultra I imagine I will switch for good. I am fortunate to have access to a decent bit of local RAM, 192GB of DDR5 at an OK speed. It is not enough and costs are well past absurd. In a few years time I envisage a setup that is sub $10k which can accomplish such tasks. The pace so far has been breakneck. That is all I personally need. That may change, but until true AGI I do think there will be a ceiling to how much I will pay for something frontier if it is only marginally better.
goolz··on I love LLMs, I hate hype
Yep, at those prices points I am most certainly just going to do whatever is in my power to run local. And to be honest, I think in the near future, we will get to a point where local models will be just good enough that it will not matter.
