always with the emotional manipulation, and when that doesn’t work go Samson on people
goldenManatee··on How Israeli actions caused famine in Gaza, visualized
Before 1948 the Palestinians were peasants living under foreign rule. But at least they were alive. When Zionist interests moved in, backed by English and American militancy to enforce land purchase contracts, the Palestinians were not a centrally organized collective. You cannot “offer” to people who are not organized, and that’s what Israel has exploited. Jews went on a 2,000 year holiday in Europe, then came back and expected they could relive the glory days of a kingdom from over 2,000 years ago. The issue has been the presumption that you can “offer” to people who have occupied the land consistently for thousands of years. Their lack of central government as peasants does not negate their humanity. Except in the Israeli government’s expansionist eyes.
goldenManatee··on The young, inexperienced engineers aiding DOGE
This notion alone does not grant you the powers of the Congress which apportioned the money to the groups. Moreover you and I do not possess the national intelligence to make the assessment of “corruption.” If you have a complain there are mechanisms for Congressional investigations. What you are conspiring to is the overthrow of the democratic processes that ensure that no one group claims to act in the public good, while acting on their selfish behalf behind the scenes.

Let us also consider just how badly this continues to paint tech and tech workers to the general public. To distrust technology such as all the AI hate we see online.
goldenManatee··on The young, inexperienced engineers aiding DOGE
One of them transcribed an ancient Greek text from Vesuvius. So idiots buy into the idea this qualifies them to become unelected arbiters of THEIR OWN opinion of justice and decide who the Treasury pays or does not.
goldenManatee··on The young, inexperienced engineers aiding DOGE
I mean, Garry Tan has already been on Twitter with his stupid take that there are “brilliant” so it surely must be true. /s

The Treasury has been taken over and barricaded, but please enlighten us Garry with fables of their 10x brilliance.

No you’re supporting treasonous actions and you must be taught and discouraged from such actions that violate the will of the people in favor of expeditiousness. Your views are a danger to a stably growing society.
goldenManatee··on Goose: An open-source, extensible AI agent that goes beyond code suggestions
Regarding the “Extensible,” doesn’t that completely moot its whole point?
goldenManatee··on Meta's memo to employees rolling back DEI programs
What kind of role did you occupy that you saw "manager leave headcount unfulfilled because the qualified candidates they found were non diverse"? Have you considered it may all just be the appearance you are interpreting in your head, but it doesn't map out to reality?
goldenManatee··on Apple Buys DarwinAI Ahead of Major Generative AI Updates Coming in iOS 18
Wouldn’t they need several months (at least) to do integrations and testing?
goldenManatee··on Apple says UK could 'veto' global privacy tools
Other countries would bid for the same veto, and go to great lengths if necessary to obtain “equality” in this respect to UK. Countries would then all veto security improvements they could exploit on one-another. If country A knows country B would benefit from a patch going out, country A could veto, leading to an overall worse experience and destruction of quality, trust, and value in Apple in the long run. The pedophile argument is so worn when UK is toothless in holding its own Prince Andrew’s behavior to account.

Overall, Home Office is gaming to destroy value in Apple. The legislation is an existential threat to the company’s long term health. If there were technical people at Home Office who knew better on security than the engineers at Apple, they would already be working at Apple since Apple pays better. Even a person most “duty bound to service” has to pay rent or a mortgage, so the most highly-skilled people in security are already working at firms like Apple, and not for Home Office where they presume to veto privacy for the world.

goldenManatee··on Leaked screenshot shows Amazon now tracking individual employee attendance
Another reason to expatriate. The entitlement to demand vassal-like fealty from employees can encroach to become anti-personal growth to the individual. A person is more than their job, and the notion that one’s needs are subservient to career promotion is a limiting belief.

If every person instead operated a bit more like a company, rather than a vassal, they’d be a little more assertive in their negotiating of boundaries.

goldenManatee··on Texas worker accused of being on drugs was dying of heatstroke
Man, the people of Texas really expect very little regard to their own humanity, seeing as they keep re-electing these guys. I can see how that’s very good for business.

goldenManatee··on Anti-porn bills could force device makers to censor sexual material
Where is the line between porn and art, and how would it remain a consistently enforceable standard? Since early times, through the Greeks to now, art celebrates nudity and sometimes depicts static (because earlier civilizations had no video) representations of sex and violence mixing in order to tell a story (uhh … Persephone and Hades, much? or Zeus turning into a thousand animals to lure women then rape them). Where do you draw the line; why draw it “there” as opposed to anywhere else; by what right is it to suppress, in the process, others’ definition of where to draw said line?
goldenManatee··on Justice Department says Google destroyed evidence related to antitrust lawsuit
How much do your morals swing as you travel different countries or even states? Age of consent being an example of morality - the legal age varies by country but it would be sociopathetic if someone were to “shop around.” Morality is not legality; the law _aspires_ to codify the spirit of a society’s morals - therefore it is morality that dictates to law, and law aims to catch up to morality when zeitgeists change. Equating the two things would be a poor understanding of sociology and civic politics.

Focus-work that is broad and shallow versus narrow and deep.
goldenManatee··on Facebook reportedly laying off thousands of employees
What is “manage out”? I haven’t heard this business double speak term.
goldenManatee··on Jack Dorsey texts Elon Musk, March 26, 2022
That’s going to be a battle of cash poured into PR teams. While competitive, I am layman and do not see that it rises to the level of conspiracy. You can’t exactly call a non-monetizing protocol the competitive beast that a publicly traded, global behemoth like Twitter is.
goldenManatee··on Google is shutting down Stadia
This is what drives my hesitancy toward subscribing any Google paid product. The company is very short-term focused and fickle on measuring the success of a product. They have the cash to throw at new problems, but they lack the stamina for any of their products to weather-out a storm. Google itself has the reputational problem of being weak on product longterm visions; that makes it a non-starter for buying into their mercurial fantasies.
goldenManatee··on Most US professors are trained at same few elite universities
This is all based on personal emotions and faux logical assumptions. There’s very little concrete or scientific evidence being presented to back up any of the anecdotes. There’s mention of avoiding mushiness, but ironically that’s precisely what the comforting cognitive miserliness does.
goldenManatee··on 'Too many employees, but few work': Pichai, Zuckerberg sound the alarm
This is why I don’t understand when some say that people would rather not work at all if given the opportunity and still live well. As people we need challenges to keep finding meaning in our lives. I’ve also experienced depression in the past as a result of getting paid but lack of work. Zuck and Pichai’s complain isn’t wrong, it’s just that they’re part of the problem for paid employees having little work, and it’s admittedly very hard for any of us to recognize when we’re the problem. Everyone suffers from bad leadership, from the employees to the boss.
goldenManatee··on Revealed: Queen’s sweeping immunity from more than 160 laws
The idea of a family with codified preference and privilege is odd. An entire nation of people basing their personal identities off the curated choices of a single family dependent on social-welfare to survive.
goldenManatee··on Spotify and Google Announce User Choice Billing
This does not warrant PR excitement getting built up. It’s just another payment option, not a discount package deal for consumers, so … who cares enough to make a press release about a feature this boring.
goldenManatee··on Poll: Why are you staying at your job?
WOW. I envy your position and am happy for you. I miss that so much. Only thing keeping me around is flexible hours, but even that wears off when the meaning of my life’s work looks: purposeless.
goldenManatee··on US foreign policy is driven mostly by short-term politics, not coherent strategy
The thing about the Senate is it is bastardized tyranny by the minority. Those best able to organize always win-out, and that means large state-bound corporations and major donors become best represented by bodies like the Senate. It’s power is sustained by the appearance of fairness.

Ugh Nick Clegg. No doubt a future seat as Harvard/Stanford Dean, if not just UK PM. The man talks out both ends - impressively so, I might add.
