gogopuppygogo··on TSMC hikes chip prices up to 20% amid supply shortage
These “assets” are usually just participation trophies in decentralized Ponzi schemes. Bitcoin is propped up by the ongoing tether scandal that is now larger than Bernie Madoff ever was.

Bezos at one time mentioned that 35% of all Amazons sales came from recommendations. That’s not an insignificant number.

Twilio studio let’s you config a call flow visually for this.

Alternatively you can use TokTiv a free (limited number of users) PBX from an Indian company that relies on Twilio numbers: https://www.toktiv.com/

I’ve been using it for a year. It’s been buggy at times but improving.

gogopuppygogo··on Reddit raises $410M in new funding
To lose money gaining market share so they can eventually sell ads to those eyeballs.

I still use old Reddit. If they get rid of old Reddit I’ll never go back.

I wish Kevin Rose had managed to keep Digg a competitor.

gogopuppygogo··on PlayCover: Run iOS apps and games on the M1 Mac
I think Apple has adopted a denylist instead of permitlist approach. They let all iPad and iPhone apps run unless the developer puts their app on the denylist.
gogopuppygogo··on Ask HN: It's 2021 and QuickTime still doesn't export MP4. What is going on?
The Disk utility downgrade is still annoying to this day.

The worst example of neglect though imho is how finder still doesn’t have an option to cut when you right click. How hard would it be to add that so folks don’t have to learn a keyboard shortcut?

gogopuppygogo··on Elementary OS 6 Odin

gogopuppygogo··on Apple dropped plan for encrypting backups after FBI complained (2020)
You can build one. Lots of guides out there and compatibility lists for components. It’s going to be a science project though with only community support for an adversarial operating system.

If you plan to use it for work then buy a Mac. It’s a tool for a job.

gogopuppygogo··on A cocktail of pesticides, parasites and hunger leaves bees down and out
Outdoor farming is still incredibly resource intensive. As we move into an age where unsalted water becomes more precious and rare we should focus on hydroponic growing tech to preserve water. It is indoors so it wouldn’t require pesticides.
gogopuppygogo··on Woman sues L.A. after being struck by car on a street where tents block sidewalk
Biden is sending a “task force” into Chicago to curb crime: https://www.foxnews.com/us/biden-chicago-violence-strike-for...

Why can’t the governor send in the national guard to build housing for the needy?

gogopuppygogo··on Woman sues L.A. after being struck by car on a street where tents block sidewalk
He knows how to engage people and run a profitable business.

I know, YC still has a large audience in the Bay Area. Many of those folks live (or have lived) in San Francisco. A city that has enjoyed the fruits of their successful policies regarding business. Policies that continue pushing people with jobs away while attracting homeless folks. Not to mention electing Chesa Boudin, a district attorney literally trained by a failed socialist.

California needs help from someone who isn’t a career politician/socialist IMHO.

From his website:

“ The National Guard will be tasked with compassionately serving our homeless community during the first 60 days of Kevin Paffrath’s administration. Day 1, construction will also begin on 80, new Emergency Facilities. After 30 days, our transition to housing begins. Modern Emergency Facilities will include: mental-health facilities, detox facilities, educational facilities, canteens, and provide medical support for ALL Californian’s without housing. Then, we have to also solve the reasons that CAUSE homelessness. ”

gogopuppygogo··on Elizabeth Holmes fails to keep customer complaints, test results out of trial
Bernie Madoff ran a ponzi. He paid returns with other investor monies. Holmes ran a pure fraud. She put lives at risk with her tests. Potentially, peopled died. She deserves an extremely long and punitive jail sentence.
gogopuppygogo··on Woman sues L.A. after being struck by car on a street where tents block sidewalk
Kevin Paffrath has some ideas for solving this. The Democratic Party seems bent on preventing him from having a fair shot.
gogopuppygogo··on Google Cloud reported an operating loss of $5.6B in 2020
The partner distribution network Microsoft has cultivated for decades is a real differentiator over Googles misguided approach to partner sales.
gogopuppygogo··on Fire use: The first signal of widespread cultural diffusion in human evolution
Now we are using advancements in our control over energy resources to make it so earth is unable to sustain human life.
gogopuppygogo··on A critique of Safari's influence on the web
Google monetizes chrome. Google is an advertising company.

Apple monetizes Safari. They sell hardware and subscription services.

Facebook monetizes in part through these browsers. The changes to Safari hurt Facebook revenue.

gogopuppygogo··on HiveNightmare a.k.a. SeriousSAM – anybody can read the registry in Windows 10
They need to make money. I guess they gave up on advertising directly and instead want to capture our info alongside what we read on the website to build profiles they can sell to marketers.
gogopuppygogo··on MS Windows Defender and DeCSS
I was under the impression that with Windows 10 we shifted to the product being the users data. The customers are now advertisers.

Makes me sad to think about how Microsoft also did this to Sunrise. They even shut Sunrise down and yet never brought the functionality to Outlook.
gogopuppygogo··on MAPS Celebrates California Senate Passage of Psychedelic Reform Bill
First, let me state that MAPS is such an important organization for advancing these substances from research to results legislatively. Incredible work once again.

Second, if you want to contact your California assemblymembers office it pays to reach their staff. You can find that if you pay for http://www.GovBuddy.com and you can keep up to date with staff changes. I don’t know of any other way to find that.

gogopuppygogo··on HaikuOS running on RISC-V hardware (HiFive Unmatched)
Price and availability is my guess. I still have no idea how a $35 SoC like the Pi is profitable.
gogopuppygogo··on Ask HN: Anyone here built successful SaaS/startup just for money?
I’ve been in your shoes.

To me, it was disheartening to hear realtors making more money and I was working more hours.

I shifted to following the money backwards. What did people who were making money need done to automate niche parts of their job. I didn’t need to make a billion dollar business. I just have to make $400k a year to be in the top 1% of the USA.

I’m not yet at the top 1% and the realtors can still make more but if this year goes well I’ll be there.

Example: Law firms need to do discovery in litigation and often tend to hire third party firms to do the technology work collecting data. It’s called e-discovery. There are tons of little rabbit holes in that space I found to look at. Amongst other things.

gogopuppygogo··on Subscription Changes for Computer Backup
It was a spare on a shelf at my office in a co working space. Password was not set up so a low level worker could use it if I needed them to grab it. Worked out well as the thief used it and thought nothing of securing it.

It was a cheap wintel computer that could have had the os reinstalled if the operating system had been locked.

The thief had opportunity and access to the coworking space.

Thankfully they didn’t realize backblaze was on it.
