but seriously, it could be used as a manufacturing and industrial hub for deep space operations like asteroid mining.
think about it like this. if we can manufacture things on the moon we can launch things for almost nothing into both earth orbit and the outer solar system due to how the orbital mechanics work.
this means we can build a million probes and send them all over the solar system, manufacture generation ships, permanent self sustaining space based habitats.
a new era of expansion, exploration, and discovery.
hyper optimizing something implies all low hanging fruit has been picked.
I love side loading apps on my oculus quest too. my quest will continue to provide me value after meta ceases support this year.
"our records indicate you have not used your cloud connected CPAP machine frequently enough. a healthy night's sleep is necessary for maximum productivity at your place of employment. you must use this machine on average 6 hours per day or the portion already paid by your insurance will be rescinded and charged to you. a copy of this email was also sent to your supervisor"
"your smart speaker indicated that you have expressed illegal opinions while home alone, this recording has been forwarded to the Scottish criminal justice system for review"
"healthy employees are critical to our business. To that end we are issuing every employee a smart watch to help monitor and enforce our physical activity requirements to bring down our medical insurance costs"
Our culture informs us of what is socially acceptable (theft, greed, dishonesty etc) and meters out justice through our real social networks of family and friends. For issues that raise to a level of criminality we use the legal system.
I also think it's perfectly fine to make use of technology for selfish ends. That's the real reason competitive market economies function more effectively than command economies. When we all act out of our own self interest we buy the best value good and reward the most efficient producer. (Thiel argues with this and I admit this pattern does not hold in markets with monopolies, cartels, or regulatory capture)

it's incredibly important for us to have maintainable open alternatives to the proprietary hellscape I see even when trying to purchase the most mundane devices.
some markets lacking open alternatives now:
security cameras
smart speakers
CPAPs
working OSS phones
wireless routers (shipped with open firmware)
automotive diagnostic/programming software
smart TVs
smart scales
air tags
smart thermostats
personal weather stations
there are lots of avenues for monetization but it's a crowded space and hard to build all these features in and gain momentum.
In the future when tempted to comment on similar matters I encourage you to instead spend the time trying to make friends with someone outside your political bubble.
