glitchdout··on Hyundai buys Boston Dynamics
Your sentences do not agree with each other.

"building what it can with anything it can get" is the definition of cheaper.

If it was easier or cheaper to create a multi-purpose robot to control vehicles and deliver bombs that's what we'd see Ukraine doing.

glitchdout··on Hyundai buys Boston Dynamics
War in Ukraine does not validate that assessment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiGwWwcnT7M
glitchdout··on I’ve banned query strings
Adblockers like umatrix have options like "Spoof Referer header". I have this setting enabled, so adding tracking query strings to URLs would go against my user preference.
glitchdout··on Fedware: Government apps that spy harder than the apps they ban
For a good reason, don’t you think?
glitchdout··on Every layer of review makes you 10x slower
You only need to detect structuraly similar code. You absolutely do not need AI for that. You need ASTs.

In Ruby we have the Flay gem, for example.

glitchdout··on Using go fix to modernize Go code
ESLint (and typescript-eslint) has the concept of fixers, which updates the source code.
glitchdout··on A Fast 64-Bit Date Algorithm (30–40% faster by counting dates backwards)

    const C1 = 505054698555331      // floor(2^64*4/146097)
is faster

And it won't be the last.
glitchdout··on The RSS feed reader landscape
Agreed. The list would be more useful if it included that.
glitchdout··on macOS 26 Tahoe's Dead Canary Utility App Icons
Oh, that redesign was ludicrous https://nathanboomsma.medium.com/why-googles-new-logos-suck-...
glitchdout··on Anyone can push updates to the doge.gov website
That is, until DOGE decides to rewrite (git) history.
glitchdout··on Sharedrop: Easy P2P file transfer powered by WebRTC – inspired by Apple AirDrop
https://pairdrop.net is a fork that let’s you change your name.
glitchdout··on Japan enacts law to promote competition in smartphone app stores
Yes. Apple’s own apps should have no advantages over third-party apps.
glitchdout··on Ruby on Rails: The Documentary [video]
I was also expecting Gregg Pollack and Code School to be mentioned. The "Rails for Zombies" course was absolutely fantastic.
glitchdout··on Bank Failures – Visualization
It does make you wonder...
glitchdout··on Exploiting ChatGPT
Yeah, not sure. I did this by trial and error.

As per this other thread [1], it appears that if you ask it to do things step by step it usually can arrive at the desired solution.

If you're trying to coax it to say bad things though... it's very likely it will bump into the many protections OpenAI has added.

I really wanted to tell it to pretend that Anne Frank was a football player and then go from there... But not sure it would work and I didn't want to get banned.

glitchdout··on DALL·E 2 vs. $10 Fiverr Commissions
Why didn't he specify that he wanted a y-axis? Or vertical axis on the left side? This is the issue with prompt engineering, you need to know the concepts and their names in order to elicit the response/image that you have in your mind.
glitchdout··on Adopting Users’ Design Feedback
> Overall, the community responded to the redesign enthusiastically

I have a hard time believing this.

glitchdout··on “We removed the RSS feed since this technology became obsolete”
Vimeo did the same. I used to subscribe to and watch their Staff Picks. Now I don't.
glitchdout··on Software is eating the car
> Stout’s data shows that occurrences of software being used to fix vehicle hardware problems has steadily increased in the past five years.

Reminds me of the Boeing 737 Max and MCAS

glitchdout··on Apple doesn't care about album cover art
The alternative is doing what the iPod does.
glitchdout··on Apple doesn't care about album cover art
The lock screen has been annoying me forever and I still forgot to write about it. I've updated the post to mention this. You are absolutely right!

As for the back of the album, I agree as well! But I would consider that an extra. Not to mention that I would want to update my album collection to include that back cover, and finding a good front cover is already hard enough

glitchdout··on GM recalling nearly 69,000 Bolt EVs for fire risks
I had never seen this before. Freaking hilarious!
glitchdout··on Ask HN: What do you think about “The Social Dilemma”?
I wish they had presented more solutions. The way I see it, infinite scroll feeds generated by algorithms should be outlawed. Same with Like counts. (It seems Instagram has begun testing this https://techcrunch.com/2019/11/14/instagram-private-like-cou...)

Facebook wasn't that bad when you had to visit each person's wall or when the feed was in chronological order.

glitchdout··on Apple Tried Charging the Price of a New MacBook Pro for a Screen Replacement
They completely destroyed the music app. And they prevent third-party apps from having the same APIs as their music app! I used to use Cesium but Apple even managed to break that app.

opacity and transform (translate, scale, rotate and skew). That's mostly it.

glitchdout··on Ed Catmull and Pat Hanrahan Win Turing Award
Collusion is collusion. By keeping salaries lower at the tech giants, they kept salaries lower in the whole tech industry.
glitchdout··on Domes are overrated
Why not create a colony on the Moon then? Much faster, cheaper and easier to reach, etc, etc
glitchdout··on Libra, 2 Weeks In
You usually prefix it with the country name. So that leaves us with "australian dollar", "mexican peso" and, huh, I guess, "facebook libra"?
