Interesting. Can you point to any official white-paper from Apple claiming this? I'm reading this: https://www.apple.com/business/docs/iOS_Security_Guide.pdf but I cannot find any such information about a living person.
gizmodo59··on YouTube says it will crack down on bizarre videos targeting children
I would rather give them something else to do instead of going through so many control measures for internet access (Not saying it should be banned). There are so many things they can learn without internet and so many things they can learn with just computer and no internet too.
gizmodo59··on New Da Vinci bio portrays a man obsessed with knowledge, impossible to know
While I'm not sure about Da Vinci and Newton, Einstein was always humble
gizmodo59··on Google is building an anti-Amazon alliance, and Target is the latest to join
I can now talk to an "intelligent" AI when my shipment doesn't arrive on time or if I have to complain about a product I bought. May be a post in Google Forums.
gizmodo59··on I wanted to understand why racists hated me, so I befriended Klansmen
In many cases people just grew up to be and found a community where they are accepted. A dialogue with them like how it has been mentioned in the article is all it takes.
gizmodo59··on U.S. To Collect Social Media Data on All Immigrants Entering Country
See the problem here is that many think this is happening due to the current administration but that is not even remotely true. Irrespective of which administration it is red or blue, this is inevitable.
gizmodo59··on Google pulls YouTube off the Amazon Echo Show
This may be a bit off topic, but one of the extensions I loved was forced to be unpublished from Chrome Store. Its called Streamus and it plays audio of a Youtube video in the background and it was really good!

Email Communications from Google: https://imgur.com/15gaOf6 HN: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9873255

I wish this extension existed still when I can legally not watch a video with Youtube RED.

gizmodo59··on PlainJS – Vanilla JavaScript Repository
jQuery has helped me tremendously in the past and continues to do so. Not everyone has to design a website like google.com and not everyone needs to take into consideration every byte that is loaded in a web page. A library that gives you a single way to do things that many browsers support in a less verbose form is just amazing tbh.

At the end of the day when you need to just get things done jQuery still shines. Does it produce spaghetti code? No, you are doing it. Does it become an enabler in spaghetti code? Yes. But not all the use cases are the same.

gizmodo59··on The East India Company, the original corporate raiders
I'm not sure why you are bringing this point. OP is not saying British are worse than Ottoman or other empires.(Two Wrongs Make A Right Fallacy)
gizmodo59··on E-commerce will evolve next month as Amazon loses the 1-Click patent
Not to sound condescending but the following phrase

"years of research and brilliant ideas should be protected"

can never adequately define what must be patented and what must not be. An brilliant idea need not take years of research. Even the interpretation of the word brilliant is debatable.

PS: I'm not taking any stance with respect to patents. Just saying that it's not black and white.

gizmodo59··on U.S. judge says LinkedIn cannot block startup from public profile data
Because they won't get the traffic from search engines. Searching for a full name very often leads to a LinkedIn page in top 10 results.
gizmodo59··on IT is the cause of rising income and wealth inequality since the 1970s [pdf]
A core competency doesn't mean they are IT companies. Knowing how to use a computer is akin to literacy. That does not mean that being so efficient in Excel will make you Martin Shkreli (https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/4df5il/martin_shkre...) Finance is much more than knowing how to use or even excel at any software or programming. Computer is an enabler in this case IMHO.
gizmodo59··on Jeff Bezos Surpasses Bill Gates as World's Richest Person
Joel's anecdote was refreshing to read! Thanks for the share! Bill Gates is definitely remarkable
gizmodo59··on Uber Founder Travis Kalanick Resigns as C.E.O.
"driver that fails to yield to a pedestrian, drives in a bike lane"

At least in Uber/Lyft you can rate a driver, there are many taxi drivers in NYC who drive rashly and don't do those things you listed and yet if you don't tip they will explicitly ask you to.

To me, the following are the most important things to use a ridesharing app:

Not paying any tip (In Yellow cab, many drivers demand for tip if you don't tip them)

Rating the drivers (It's a positive thing depending on how you view it)

Booking when you are drunk (While there are some apps that let you book yellow cabs we all know how bad those apps are)

Uber as a company or Lyft as a company may be disliked for some of the things they do, but ride sharing is a positive outcome. If the above three points are there for yellow cab, I will happily use them anytime. The way a driver drives is not something specific to uber or lyft.

gizmodo59··on How to Get Hired at CircleCI
Many companies won't give that feedback purely for legal reasons. There might be internal policies on proper wordings they must use when they do not select a candidate just to be on the safe side. The HR or whoever is sending you an email must be very careful or getting sued is very easy. Often people are not realizing this. There are several reasons why someone might not hire you. It can be purely on the technical questions you answered, it could be due to the "fit" criteria (you can be the best programmer out there but that doesn't mean you can fit well with the team), communication ability (articulating something clearly is very important) etc..

An interview is a two way channel. They must like you and you should like them. Although when you are interviewing for some company it's mostly your livelihood that's at stake so you may not think if you are going to be happy and fit well there as long as you get good benefits etc. While it is true that someone cannot be judged in 2/3 hours of interview, there is not much of an alternative here so sometimes it is a leap of faith albeit a calculated one.

gizmodo59··on Amazon to Build a Permanent Mary's Place Family Shelter Within Its Headquarters
I'm just amazed at the level of negativity in this thread and so many grey comments. To look at something objectively and appreciate for what it is, is very important.
gizmodo59··on Should I buy ECC memory? (2015)
I wonder if this has anything to do with Microsoft's plans to build an underwater data center.
gizmodo59··on A man wouldn’t leave an overbooked United flight, so he was dragged off
Why should he leave in the first place?
gizmodo59··on Python coding interview challenges
"reasoning and problem-solving ability in abstract"

Implementing a syntactically correct tic tac toe program on a whiteboard doesn't fit it. Plus many are comfortable in working behind the screen than to work in front of white board (real world)

gizmodo59··on Leslie Lamport: Video course on TLA+
Just finished the first video. Very nicely done. The website is nicely done too, not obtrusive and makes the learner to focus on the video. +1
gizmodo59··on Silicon Valley programmers pressure friends to quit working at Uber
> Is it really making the world any better?

Does this mean no one should work in many companies that do not make the world any better than what it is now? One could easily argue that most of the companies, though they claim to make the world a better place, they honestly do not.

gizmodo59··on As a software engineer, what's the best skill to have for the next 5-10 years?
The following are always good to have in my opinion:

Operating Systems

DBMS

DS and Algorithms

Proficiency in one of the languages(C/C++,Java,Python)

Very good communication skills

gizmodo59··on On Loneliness
> "spiritual" junk

Have you read the article? Understanding how things work is one of the fundamental quests of humanity. It might not be a scientific journal, but calling it "spiritual" junk is unfair.

gizmodo59··on How Immigration Uncertainty Threatens America’s Tech Dominance
Things that a student coming to US faces from a developing or under-developed country:

1. Undergo TOEFL and GRE and apply to various universities

2. Save up enough money or even mortgage parents property to pay for tuition and even buy flight tickets

3. Adapt to a new culture, study hard while working part time

4. Finding a job (While its definitely easy for a CS graduate its not the same for other majors) but yet, cannot be eligible to many companies that don't want to sponsor visa in long term, not eligible for small startups with no e-verify.

5. Make sure you do all the paper work with OPT, be updated on travel requirements and other stuff

6. Cannot switch jobs easily and should find an employer that has offices outside USA in case of no luck in lottery

7. Apply for H1B twice or even thrice just to find out that you did not get it!

So much of hard work and planning just to find out that it all comes down to luck in the literal sense.

gizmodo59··on Kaspersky: SSL interception differentiates certificates with a 32bit hash
Not sure if this is sarcasm, but its not adding much to the discussion IMHO.
gizmodo59··on A recruiter sent me a message in code. I fixed it
Do something like this in skype: {code} printf("Hello World!"); {code}
gizmodo59··on Technical report on DNC hack [pdf]
I don't think 'Do you think the British and Americans were going to publish stories about Enigma back in WW2 in the Times during the war?' is a fair comparison to what's happening now.

Given the credibility of some three letter agency, it is reasonable that people who are technically adept or otherwise have doubt over this report. Even when you just look at the report without the credibility, it still lacks so much for anyone to pinpoint the acts to Russian state. While the report itself does not claim that, the media hype is otherwise.

gizmodo59··on BBC admits its viral “women write better code” story was fake news
The issue is 'I think women write better code' to 'Women write better code, study suggests'. The latter suggests the author's own opinion without any proper research as they claim to be.
gizmodo59··on MacBook Pro is a lie
Surface (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/devices/surface-book...):

128GB/Intel® Core™ i5-8GB- $1,499

With tax the price comes to 1650. (I do realize its touch screen) Is M$FT trying the Apple's path?

gizmodo59··on MacBook Pro is a lie
16GB is not fine in many cases. Just a VM (Say cloudera) and chrome with several tabs is enough to slow things.
