gizmodo59··on I quit OpenAI because its culture is broken
What are you talking about? He is very young, definitely made millions to not work for a lifetime in many places around the world and is insanely popular with his drama.

In your view he may have sacrificed more millions in the future but I very much doubt he is struggling now.

gizmodo59··on I quit OpenAI because its culture is broken
He already had a bulk load from his time at OpenAI.
gizmodo59··on I quit OpenAI because its culture is broken
He is a hypocrite for all we care. You work there for a while when your stock is getting vested and suddenly you have this feeling? Like the dude hired a PR firm as well.

While the safety and alignment is a real problem, I don’t get this guy or the Anthropic dude. First world problems.

gizmodo59··on DeepSeek Harness Desktop for macOS and Windows
Excited to try this
gizmodo59··on We're gonna need a lot more mathematicians
All I hear is cope. I’m very certain that my job can be automated and that I don’t posses intelligence above the models these days. Sure, I’m needed in ways that AI can’t so certain things but I don’t want to pretend like it’s not going to improve on those areas. And unfortunately the Math community need to set aside their ego and come to terms with it. I don’t understand the “but humans are this and that” arguments. AI should bring humility among us. May be every other species got humbled by humans and now we have AI (May be not exactly the AI now but soon)
gizmodo59··on GPT-6 Sol and Luna
It’s not direct token to token pricing and everyone misses it. The cost is how much tokens to complete something multiplied by token pricing. I can have a model at .0001 per million tokens but it’s so inefficient that it takes 10B tokens to complete a task means it’s expensive.
gizmodo59··on GPT-6 Sol and Luna
it was expected no? if cost is the only reason to use oss models, they can do much better than small providers who don't have much compute.
gizmodo59··on GPT-6 Sol and Luna
yeah I used to love claude! but these days it refuses and responds as if its like a big brother. glad competition exists and for the past few months codex has been significantly better. Even some oss models like glm are good but they dont have enough compute and get capacity constraints
gizmodo59··on GPT-6 Sol and Luna
6-luna is at the pareto for most of the tasks! I dont know how they make money here but its insane value from a closed source model. I'd go further and say it makes no sense (privacy, sovereignty etc aside) to use many other models as its not only expensive but also many providers don't have that much GPUs to serve at a significant volume. https://openrouter.ai/rankings?view=month#top-models 5.6 luna is already the most used model this month.
gizmodo59··on Fable 5 – Median thinking declined in August
planned obsolescence
gizmodo59··on ChatGPT now knows what you do on other websites via ad collector
You can pay for whatever Google service and they still collect this data. Same with meta subscription.
gizmodo59··on RSA-896
You don’t need AI to solve this. Just lots of compute.
gizmodo59··on Claude Cowork and chat are now one Claude
codex (their app) is pretty good and lots of banked resets, luna is cost effective and Astra seems better than Fable for many tasks. Most important one is less refusals and I can use it the way I want without the fear of getting banned. I do like Claude Code a lot when it comes to pure coding use cases but the work often touches outside code and I don't want to keep switching
gizmodo59··on Why I'm still bearish on LLMs after Navier-Stokes
why cant models make a tool call to stockfish? its like saying model can't execute python for complex math calculations
gizmodo59··on Hugging Face is billing OpenAI $100M for hacking it
this is published july 27th. I know HN want's to pile on any negative news these days but this is very old in today's world. Please update the title
gizmodo59··on I resigned from Anthropic today
The fame he got, the stamp of a frontier lab in the resume - its worth more than working in many other companies for years. Plus, not everyone thinks working more is needed once they achieve a certain number.
gizmodo59··on I resigned from Anthropic today
This is a lame argument. Questioning his financial incentive is very legit. Why should we trust him?
gizmodo59··on I resigned from Anthropic today
And Anthropic are the good guys? They are talking insane stuff these days. May be we can trust zuck after all
gizmodo59··on DaVinci Resolve 21.1
No offense whatsoever. But this whole line "but it won't replace the real experience and taste required for larger projects" is not how I see it. I wish people are more humble at this juncture of AI progress. This is not to say humans won't play a part but saying xyz cannot be replaced is a big stretch. Saying its not there currently is okay but saying it won't replace I don't see where that's coming from.
gizmodo59··on GPT-6 Astra on robot arms
If you haven’t tried computer use with Astra with codex I highly highly recommend it. Just like how gpt 4 and agentic coding with cc. This thing is the most exciting stuff I’ve seen in a while. And then all the blender, cad stuff is cherry on top.

And it’s fast, they do lots of resets. I feel like they are spending too much money but I’m not complaining. Best 200$ for an AI subscription IMHO

gizmodo59··on Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v4.2
I don't agree. The main issue with their scoring/methodology is that the numbers make it seem like 5-6 models have little to no difference when in fact there is a significant difference between fable and opus and sol and astra for example. They are popular mainstream but most of their benchmarks are either not a representation of model strengths enough or they are not doing a good job of showcasing it properly. The fact that muse and 3.8 were high a day back shows they are just the modern version of lmareana for the mass audience and PR stunts.
gizmodo59··on GPT-6 Astra
99 on arc agi 3 is insane. The arc agi committee were so proud of creating a benchmark they thought will take forever to saturate.
gizmodo59··on Creepy Crawlies
Side note.. Fable just rejected this. GLM 5.3 did without questioning me. 5.6 sol did it beautifully.
gizmodo59··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
I somehow find it better to give 2 frontier model companies 100-200/month than dropping 10 grand on a hardware that will get old in no time with bad TPS. I really want to have a fully local model but seems like one more generation wait and we will be there?
gizmodo59··on Managing AI Coding Costs at Scale
I will believe there is no moat when the revenues for Anthropic is not 70B. It seems like people want to throw away money and they don’t like switching
gizmodo59··on DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731
It will be comparable to Luna then.
gizmodo59··on Mistral's Shieldstral: 3B open-weights model for multimodal moderation
how does this compare with https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/models/omni-moderatio...

As for use cases, obviously we can't fully rely on non-deterministic capability for sensitive things but a small model which can do a good job acts as a first defense and then a human can review later.

gizmodo59··on The AI Demand Bubble
If your comment is referring to situational awareness, its due to 4x leverage. leverage is always risky. AI/semis are still doing extremely well (over last 2 years) despite the recent dip

gizmodo59··on Show HN: Run an 80B Qwen in 4.3 GB of RAM on a Mac, and a 35B on an iPhone
The web and connecting to other services is very important for almost all of my use cases. While I believe we are going to get better and faster models, the web index is certainly not downloadable and maintainable for 99.99% of the folks who are able to use local models. Any good solutions exist?
