I appreciate the tip and I did consider it, but chose not to.

gits1225··on Productivity
Off-topic:

> The most impressive people I know have strong beliefs about the world, which is rare in the general population.

Is this true?

The average person is irrationally immovable on religion, politics and sports.

On-topic:

My philosophy on productivity:

There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all ― Peter Drucker

gits1225··on Ask HN: Does anyone use an alternative to a password manager?
I use https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm to generate passwords and save the passwords in a text file stored in a pendrive.
gits1225··on Ask HN: Which books have you re-read the most?
Even though I'm a huge Carmack fan, somehow missed this book. Adding to my immediate reading list. Thanks!
gits1225··on Ask HN: Experienced JavaScript programmers, what are your recommendations?
Looking for recommendations across the board. It doesn't have to be specific. Knowing that Phaser is a very good library for game development is in itself good information.

I might or might not be interested in game development now, but I am interested in seeing recommendations of good resources from experienced programmers.

gits1225··on Ask HN: For those programming 10+ years, what do you wish you knew 4 years in?
I wish I knew the importance of working on an idea that is mine. You'll not be influenced by external pressure or constrains. You can build it how it should be built according to you. Along with following the right people and working with smart people, this habit has helped me improve my skills across different domains.
gits1225··on Ask HN: I feel as if I have ADD, how do I pick a field and stick-to-it?

gits1225··on Ask HN: What do you use to align your daily todos with your long term goals?
Every time I'm faced with a decision, I close my eyes and see the same picture. Whenever I consider an action, I ask myself, will this action help to make this picture a reality? Pull it out of my mind and into the world? And I only act if the answer is yes.

- Little Finger

Deliberately add your to-dos. Before adding a to-do (to asana / on paper) ask this question: Does this to-do get you closer to what you want to accomplish? If no, do not add it. If yes, prioritize first (no two to-dos are equal, choose the ones with the most impact) and then bucket it according to Eisenhower Decision Matrix.

As your morning routine, review your matrix to stay on track.

gits1225··on Everyone Is Falling for This Frighteningly Effective Gmail Scam
It is not that different, but the art is in the attention to details (the sender can be posed as your colleague) and subtlety in execution.
gits1225··on Everyone Is Falling for This Frighteningly Effective Gmail Scam
We can agree to disagree on this.
gits1225··on Everyone Is Falling for This Frighteningly Effective Gmail Scam
I'd like to know more. I feel in this case the title should convey the urgency with enough context. Which it does in my opinion. Just "Effective GMail Scam" would not make me care enough to click through to the post. It is the fact that "Everyone is Falling" that alerted me to the importance of the post.
gits1225··on Everyone Is Falling for This Frighteningly Effective Gmail Scam
The title is not bait. It describes the post correctly and does not mislead you. Just pointing it out; I did not change the title.
gits1225··on George Orwell’s 1984 is currently the top selling book on Amazon
Fun fact: Mark Zuckerberg is born in 1984 : )
gits1225··on How BitTorrent Works
You can start by going through the docs of popular open source bit-torrent clients like qBittorrent (https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent) or Transmission (https://github.com/transmission/transmission).

Join the respective IRCs on freenode, observe the chats and ask specific questions when you don't understand something and Google can't give you good answers.

gits1225··on Mr. Rogers Introduces Kids to Experimental Electronic Music (1968)

gits1225··on What should a self-taught programmer study?
Another excellent book on Alogorithms and Datastructures: http://interactivepython.org/runestone/static/pythonds/index... . Seriously, there are a lot of very high quality books being released for free past couple of years, especially by teachers.
gits1225··on Paralyzed by Choice in Front-end Development
http://html5weekly.com/ is one quality newsletter. Then there is http://tinyletter.com/webaudioweekly which I have been subscribed to for around 3 weeks now; some really interesting links there.

From the list in the OP, http://webtoolsweekly.com/ and http://tympanus.net/codrops/ looks very very interesting. Thanks for sharing this.

Edit: Unfortunately, codrops doesn't seem to have a subscribe by email option. Oh well.

gits1225··on Where to begin when learning C? Start by making lots of errors
"Programming is learned by writing programs"

- Brain Kernighan

And that is what anyone who goes through K&R will do: Reading and writing lots of real programs. A simple program is worth a thousand words!

Which unfortunately the majority of technical books just can't get right. Explain the concepts in 5 full dull pages, and then at the end "Hey, checkout this little snippet of code, which by the way does nothing really interesting, but is here to illustrate what the author was talking about :)"

gits1225··on In India, Prism-like Surveillance Slips Under the Radar
The Government is trying to do the same thing with similar tactics as the US counterpart. They don't make any noise, or put any effort into making people aware of what is actually going to be done to them. As a result, there is virtually no media coverage, and only a couple of vigilant people who care about it are even aware of this.

They just barely mention it in passing, is ambiguous and can be interpreted however they want it to: http://pib.nic.in/newsite/erelease.aspx?relid=70747, like: "Hey, we are going to monitor every aspect of your life, and keep the records forever, and will be used against you for the interests of various corrupt people; in effect, shutting you up. No big deal :)"

gits1225··on Writing Web Applications in Go
I think, the best time to find hackers would be before killer applications[1] written in that specific programming language starts to appear. After that, time will pave way to The Go paradox[2].

The best places to find these people would be golang-nuts mailing list, /r/golang, #go-nuts irc etc.
