ghostfish··on Arduino-based ArduSat will run your code in space
To be clear here, they're not actually sending Arduinos into space, which would be silly. They're putting several of the same microcontroller used in Arduino on a custom PCB. The idea being that the Arduino environment is very beginner friendly.
ghostfish··on BurritoB0t - 3D printer for burritos
I love 3D printers, but this to me is pointless. With a chocolate printer people see the printed design, but with this you're putting the printed feature on a tortilla that's about to be rolled up. I think I'll stick with a spoon.
ghostfish··on Matterport: create 3D models of spaces and objects in minutes
I'd be curious to see what features this implementation has compared to the existing open source software that does this sort of thing. (http://pointclouds.org/news/kinectfusion-open-source.html) It seems to use the RGB data as a color texture for the model, in addition to the depth data, for one thing.
ghostfish··on Show HN: QuestCompanions, temp labor for MMORPGs
This is an awesome idea overall, but I think it goes without saying that you need to be very careful not to run afoul of an EULA. At what point does playing "with" the player become giving the player ingame items for real money? If you share quest rewards equally, you're probably OK, but what if the companion gives all of the gold rewards to the paying player? What if the companion runs them through a dungeon and gives them all the drops? At that point I think you're essentially selling the items for real money, which violates the EULAs. Tread carefully.
ghostfish··on Why is Ivy Bridge so hot?
Thankfully, someone already sells that. http://indigo-xtreme.com/
ghostfish··on Kickstarter game project raises $10k, made using a DIY Platformer tutorial.
At first I thought that failed Kickstarters were a small minority of projects, but I've come to think that failed projects (or at least greatly delayed) are the norm, rather than the exception. Of 4 projects I've funded 1 was delivered as promised and on time, 1 is currently on pace to be delivered only slightly late (~1 month), one is 5 months late and still being designed, and one is mostly content complete but over a year late for physical delivery. People really, really don't seem to realize what they're getting themselves into with these, and drastically underestimate time to completion.
ghostfish··on Semicolon: A language of semicolons
While mildly amusing, this whole semicolon obsession that's sprung to the fore this past week is ridiculous. It was silly and inconsequential when it started and it's even sillier now.
